Seriously we played the Rams twice and I don't even remember Kupp playing.  And Sanders hasn't done anything since he was an Eagle and even then he stopped producing before the Super Bowl

Is this called the "Knee Destroyer"?  If not, it should be

I still don’t totally believe the CJGJ deal was just money. I understand the future savings but they unloaded him fast for next to nothing. Felt like they wanted to get rid of him and took what they could get.   Left a huge hole in secondary. I didn’t even think he was that good but there’s a hole now

He had no guarantees on his contract after this season. I'm almost certain he asked for an extension and Howie wasn't going to do it. They saved $6m+ in 2027 by avoiding it and the fact that he's changed teams 5 times in 5 years indicate hes a pain in the ass to deal with.

As Jerry would say, still a lot of opportunities to fill that glory hole.

Oddly enough, I wanted Adoree Jackson with the Barnett pick

It’s a box squat. Helps with form on heavy weight.

I know it sucks we aren't signing everyone and their mothers but.....is it just me or does this years free agency class just suck?  Meaning all of these NFL teams signing all of these players to big contracts are just pissing money away or signing to sign players?

The Eagles had the best roster top to bottom EASILY last year.  Yes, they've lost players off of their defense but....when you look at it, they still have the best roster, one of the youngest rosters if not the youngest rosters in the NFL.  Yes, maybe the gap of best roster to others has decreased but they are doing the right thing.

They needed to reign in the spending with Jurgens, Blankenship, Carter, Smith (and eventually Q and Coop) extensions on the horizon. We've seen in the past coming off the '18 Super Bowl keeping all of you older players and what happens....no thank you.

While it isn't exciting or glamorous, I do think the Eagles and Howie are doing the smart thing.  HOPEFULLY, they can keep their draft mojo going because the next two years can set them up for the next 5 to 10.  I know...it's a big IF!

Yeah, the FA class is lack luster and everyone is getting overpaid.

I mean if the NFLPA would tell the big money stars to stop asking for so much money would there then not be more money to spend on the lower tier guys? And then as the cap increases those lower tier guys get more of the money instead of all of it going to the top 20% players. The cap increases more but does it matter if it increases 20% in 3 years and every big star asks for 20% more on their next contract?

They think by pushing the higher end guys higher, it forces the league to give a bigger piece of the pie... They want a larger percentage of earnings, not just larger earnings.

So, for example, let's say the earnings are $100B (obviously totally made up numbers, but it keeps the math simple) dollars in Year 1.  The NFLPA salary cap is negotiated to be 60% of the earnings.   So the total cap dollars = $60B.

By year 10 of the CBA, the earnings have grown to $110B dollars, so the salary cap dollars grows to $66B.  (A $6B increase...)

But, in the new CBA, the NFLPA will push for 65% of the earnings... and if ratified, the salary cap dollars increase in year 11 from $66B to $71.5B... nearly doubling the extra cap space from 10 years prior (assuming no extra earnings... and it will go even higher if the earnings ALSO increase).

And THAT jump is the one that the NFLPA actually has any sense of control over.   The earnings are driven by what the league can do to market the game and grow the audience... and to squeeze every dollar from every available source.   But the NFLPA really doesn't have any control there.  But, they do have some say in how big a piece of the pie they get.  And that's what they are looking to increase, and the easiest way to do that is to create the perception of the need for an even higher cap number because the stars' salaries are so insanely high.

Of course, when the number goes up, the top tier goes even higher, because the agents also always push for bigger and bigger money, so that they can attract more (and more lucrative) clients.    And that's why the reports from the agents always includes the 'funny money' totals.  And the NFLPA fully supports that.

Put it this way there was no one in this class that I'd have been willing to sign if it meant I had to lose the chance to re-sign Nolan Smith

Put it another way.....the Eagles got Baun for 17 million a year....I was going through the NFL Free Agency list on signings....and Baun who was top 5 for Defensive Player of the Year got that...while it seems washed out scrubs and no names are all getting 15 million a year.  Nope....no thank you.  Again, not glamorous, not exciting but they are absolutely doing the right thing.  Get the spending under control, you have literally Mailata, Dickerson, Hurts, Brown, Smith, Johnson locked up on offense and you know they are going to lock up Jurgens.  And focus on Carter, Smith, Dean, Coop and Q coming up......and then fill with 20 draft picks in the next two drafts, 11 in the first 4 rounds/17 in the first 5 rounds.

And yes, it's almost impossible to keep drafting successfully at the rate they've been going at....but even if they can go at a 50% clip instead of 100% like they have, this team is positioned to just keep on going!

At this point in the process, I'm genuinely surprised Becton is still a UFA.

I have an account on Chess.com but I haven't played there for years. I do play in real "over the board" tournaments somewhat regularly, although not so much since COVID. I played a "rated" game on Monday night. Lost against a (slightly) lower rated player with White. Oh well. It happens.

You should have listened to Wesley Snipes.

It's not a huge surprise. His strength is in his run blocking and there aren't very many teams wanting to pay a top-end run blocker. He gave up 25 pressures and 3 sacks for a team that only passed 43% of the time.

I'm not saying he can't continue to improve, but given his situation with us last season, there are likely skeptics.

Four void years on a cheap contract. Lol.

Is Joe Banner back in the FO?

If the concern of the NFLPA is paying the lower tier, then it's not working. Kenny gainwell just got $1.5M on his 2nd contract. Only people getting paid big money are the big players. The other 60% are still getting nickel and dimed while the stars are all getting $50M guaranteed contracts

There are the have's and the have not's still, and always will be.   But the middle section is absolutely getting a glut of money from this free agent period.   Gainwell plays a devalued position, so he got next to nothing as he was basically Barkley's caddie (to follow the golf discussion), even though Barkley just showed the impact a RB can have.

Meanwhile, Milton Williams got way too much.  He's not better than McNeill, but because he bet on himself and got to FA on the upswing, he got a bigger deal.  McNeill took the 'safe' play and signed an extension early.  Then you look at the deals so many other marginal players are getting right now... they are way over priced.   Sweat isn't worth what he got, but again, hit free agency on the upswing, so he cashed in his chips for a big pay day.

There are still players getting minimums and little guarantees (and there always will be), but the middle guys in this market are getting really inflated deals.

Both Becton and Ojulari are names I thought would be signed right off the bat. The further we get in to FA, the more you wonder A. what's the issue and B. will the Eagles bring them in

Howie looks for every edge with these interest-free loans.

If we don't re-sign Becton you might only be looking at a 6th rd comp pick, possibly a 5 at best.
