Why would you want to add insult (a draft pick) to injury (eating tons of Cap and getting nothing for it)?  Let Huff come to OTAs and TC and see if he can right his own ship working with Hurtt and Washburn.

Again, because they owe him $16M this offseason. Why risk it to just see if he can right his own ship?

Howie is having a decisive offseason in setting us up for the next half a decade. Signing mostly athletic 26 year olds and providing depth in many positions. The draft will take care of the rest. To avoid losing compensatory picks, there will be more Post June 1st action than normal this year. Can wait out on guys like Justin Simmons or Olujari. Then make certain deals like Goedert and Huff and build up more of the 2026 draft surplus or even start accumulating for 2027. Which should allow him to be super aggressive for 2025 draft. Seeing him moving up and down throughout the draft and trading next years picks into this draft as well, if needed. So much more that's going to happen here.

The ultimate bonus is if he signs Becton post June 1st on a 1 or 2 year deal with incentives. Could there be a wink wink agreement there? Looking more possible very day. Howie playing the long game very well this time around. This team is going to be younger and faster next year with the early looks of this. And maybe a little less drama on the roster. Hopefully....

To this point I'll give the Eagles the benefit of the doubt that these are cap necessary moves and there's nothing wrong with taking fliers on cheap free agents, etc. And maybe at some point if there's a free agent out there a little pricier who meets their price, they'd pounce. Or a trade for a guy like that.

But if the Eagles just end up cutting Dallas Goedert, I'm going to start to wonder if something else is up besides just Howie trying to put together an affordable roster under the cap with big deals coming up. Given how it would have highly negative cap ramifications unless they wait til after June 1st. Even more so if Becton eventually signs with another team and it's only for like say 2 years 10m or something and it's like "How the F didn't the Eagles match that?"

Groundhog Day… you and I discussed this  a number of hours ago.  If you think Howie can pull a Maxwell and get the trading team to assume the financial and Cap responsibility for the guaranteed Roster Bonus then it makes sense, but only if that can be accomplished.  Otherwise the Eagles are on the hook for the $16M.  The chances of a Maxwell redux are about the same as casting Gene Hackman in an upcoming film.

Colts fans not too high on Granson.

Yes, obviously. But that's the answer to your question of "Why would you want to add insult (a draft pick) to injury".

If Eagles are leaning to running more 21 personnel with BVS and Dillon, then keeping Goedert is even more less likely. Going to be TE by committee here going forward. Writing is on the wall. Barkley here, makes the TE at best a number 4 option here going forward. And you can't pay that guy top dollar.

It's a good TE draft so we're signing every TE3 out there. Go figure.  I'm not actually complaining. Competition is good

Board servers are struggling today

Now that's how you sign quality free agents!

So it WAS NOT just fake agent speak or fluff. That reporter whom reported we were in on him til the end was not lying or embellishing anything or getting BS from the agent. He had some real intel that's others did not. Unless we don't believe Justin Reid either...

It made sense to sign with the team in the grip of cap hell with a new coaching staff rather than the Super Bowl champions trying to run it back?

Does he have a history of concussion?

That's now 8 players signed to 1-year deals.

Prediction: We end up trading a TE in camp for a swap of a 7th round pick for a 6.

I don’t think it’s even a guarantee Williams even makes the roster

Exactly. Covey could still easily be back or maybe they sign someone like Devin Duvernay. I'm not sure why anyone would think Avery Williams is being brought in as anything other than competition.

That bonus is going to be paid regardless according to spotrac.

Lovato’s snaps had become increasingly erratic this past season and even into the 2023 season.

Sorry but as much as I like Bo I call BS. How much could they have really saved on a long snapper, 500K? Not to mention it's kind of an important position.

I much prefer Bryant and Granson as the blocking jumbo receiver to Johnny Wilson.

Not with that attitude.
