I don’t like it.  But they are defending SB champs.  I normally hate when people say this…but let it play out.  There is no room to criticize given the recent track record.

If they just want to win a super bowl every other year, I'm ok with that.

Quite disappointing. I do hope he was out of our league financially, both for him and for our comp pick.

I have two disappointments/concerns here.

1.  We all know how this offense functions.  Steen is going to be pretty good, but removing an absurdly dominant force in the running I game at RG, giving way to a merely good RG…that might be a negligible downgrade for a normal offense.  But for an offense built around a RB going for 2,000 yards and throwing 15 times per game?  That could be an issue.

2. Maybe he never could have done it and it was never going to happen, but I had hopes that Becton could eventually slight out to RT for Lane.  Now that it definitely isn’t happening, in all likelihood, they are going to burn a first round pick on a RT in the next 2 years.  Would have been nice to keep that in the pocket and use it elsewhere.

I think that’s kind of their plan.  Knowing that it’s excruciatingly hard to repeat and they have a brutal schedule next year…this roster still has an incredible foundation but is definitively weakened…run this group back into 2025, hope for the best, and use their gathered resources next offseason to pounce at the biggest holes.

I think if the Eagles thought he could be the RT of the future,  they'd pay him.

I'm thinking there are concerns with his knee,  or habits that told them he's a guard only,  and they felt comfortable with Steen, Green, and Keegan competing for the job.

They're keeping the core together,  and at some point they'll have the resources to go wild and add big name players to that.

One thing to consider with the amount of draft picks we have these next 2 years,  is if this is the type of year Howie goes for those expiring rookie contracts at the trade deadline. Even on a 1 year rental. To add high end talent without long term dollar commitments for the stretch run through the post season.

I don't think they viewed Becton as a future RT or they'd have paid him

To me they've clearly decided that RG, TE & WR3 are the positions on O they can't pay. On D they'll need have at least 5 guys who aren't on big deals

I still think there will be moves.  Howie won't totally just run young guys out there.  But yes this year they also want to give young guys a chance.  That way you know what you have going into the following year.  If they have a glaring weakness when camp happens he'll make a deal

Jusczyk stayed with the 49ers on a 2 year deal.

Too rich for eagles blood.  We get BVS

I swear if Goedert gets traded next then this off-season couldn't have gone any worse so far sans Baun signing.

RG looks like a position they don't need to pay considering the 3 rookie contracts they have competing there.

I would have signed him as TE2

The budget for TE2 is $1.25.

Yeah.  It's settled.

Now I wonder what the plan is for TE1.

Sure looks like Goedert will be cut or traded at some point.  It's possible they cut a 2-yr deal but usually it ends in the worst scenario of cut for nothing.

I think with Becton's situation settled we see a move today or tomorrow involving a little bit of money.  It'll either be Goedert, or a different position.

Agreed, they were in on Reid and even if low bidding they were bidding.  It wouldn't shock me after all this money talk to see them make a move that costs money.  That's Howie. He wants to win.

Obviously Ojulari has Georgia factor and Asante Jr has nostalgia factor both Howie-like. But extensions are coming too.  The thing with both Reed & Jurgens is they aren't quite as proven as you'd like but they did pay Baun

Good offseason so far.

Howie heavily implied what he was going to do and so far he has done exactly that.

Becton would have been nice to have, but not at the future cost of Carter, Smith, etc. They have Steen waiting and just about everyone has raved about Keegan. Only one way to see what they have, and that was to let Becton walk.

The Eagles have a problem, they have drafted well for several years and the bills are coming due. To keep the core together, you have to make decisions like this.

If you replaced Becton this past season with a combo of Steen and Keegan, do you think there would have been a significant drop off in the offense's ability? He was the 36th ranked guard for PFF out of all the starters. I think several in here rank Becton far higher than he actually plays.

The TE position is the one I'm most interested in. Eagles are in a tough spot with Goedert where he almost certainly does not play here on that contract. Will they make a move for a blocking TE and rely more on Dotson as the 3rd receiver, or will they be able to work something out for the next 2 years? They have a load of 5th round picks, I think they have some flexibility and can make some moves.

Bringing everyone back was no lock to win the division, let alone a SB.

This was always the most prudent, logical course of action.

They are protecting the 4 comp picks. There won't be a big signing by the Eagles.

I don't think they'd worry about the 6 if they got someone they like at a good price. They have a lot of picks next year. A pick at the end of the 6th rd at 200 essentially has very little value

I basically agree, I guess we should just be happy they even signed Baun at this point. But I'm blaming Jeff not Howie. He's going off Jeff's instruction on how to budget and handle the offseason going into the next few years. I just hope the low spending has nothing to do with a new stadium or the Celtics.

You do realize that might be the dumbest thing ever said on here....it has nothing to do with the owner who has probably spent more than any other owner and only has to do with the future state of the cap and wanting to be able to extend key current players like Jurgens, Blankenship, Carter, Smith, etc.....

I mean why don't you just break out the Jew card on Lurie too?

The offense didn't turtle when Steen played.  He was the starter when they put up 55 in the NFCCG.

I am confident that after a full offseason of him repping with the starters, we'll still have a top-3 OL.

The sky isn't falling.

It has more value to the Eagles since they won't be active in FA next year also. They need to pay their guys if they want to keep them together. If there's a chance to get someone good at a reasonable price to cancel out the 6th they would do it, but who's left in FA this season? People are forgetting the big FA signing this year was Milton Williams. That should show you how weak this FA class is overall.

Before Becton, most people were thinking Steen would start and were ok with that. They acquired Becton and people didn't expect much. They're not going to pay all 5 linemen huge contracts, have to extend Jurgens. Then in a couple years Lane's replacement will be on a rookie deal so they can plan this out.
