Probably not a very large contract - agents trumpet their successes.

Agreed, they were in on Reid and even if low bidding they were bidding.  It wouldn't shock me after all this money talk to see them make a move that costs money.  That's Howie. He wants to win.

Obviously Ojulari has Georgia factor and Asante Jr has nostalgia factor both Howie-like. But extensions are coming too.  The thing with both Reed & Jurgens is they aren't quite as proven as you'd like but they did pay Baun

I think Blankenship has been solid for the last 2 years, he quietly had a really good year this year, CJGJ was more splashy and noisy, but Blankenship was more consistent week in week out. His tackling was better than CJGJ and he had 4 picks back there too. I think Howie will try to get a cheap multi year deal this off season rather than going into the last year of his contract.

I expect this to annoy the crap out of a portion of this board.

There sure are a lot of holes to fill in this draft, especially if Goedert is gone. If they trade Goedert, I hope it's for a draft pick this year and not next year.

Yeah I think the fact that the money hasn't been released yet shows it's going to be small.  And while people here will be upset that means 32 teams decided that was what he's worth.

I think he lets Reed walk like Epps before him.

People love CJs swagger so much that they overlook his on field play.

I said this a few days ago, but CJ allowed the most TDs out of all safety's last season. He ended up surrendering 9 TDs in the regular and post season. As @Iggles_Phan pointed out, the entire team only allowed 22 passing TDs.

Blankenship allowed 1. Just 1 TD all season. No player had more snaps than Blankenship with 1 or fewer TDs surrendered. He played the 7th most snaps of any safety.

I don't know but I do wonder if Justin Reid swing was in lieu of Reed not CJGJ

I mostly see depth they need to fill out on the DL and secondary. The only real hole I feel they have now is at safety. I don't think Howie will create another one at TE. If you remember, it took him 2 seasons to trade Ertz before he got a deal he liked. I don't think he's in a rush to move Goedert, and think he will have a solid replacement.

You could try to make the argument that Cine can be the starter, but that's not something I'd be comfortable with. But who knows, the coaches have seen more of him in practice.

They're keeping the core together,  and at some point they'll have the resources to go wild and add big name players to that.

One thing to consider with the amount of draft picks we have these next 2 years,  is if this is the type of year Howie goes for those expiring rookie contracts at the trade deadline. Even on a 1 year rental. To add high end talent without long term dollar commitments for the stretch run through the post season.

Howie and trade deadline don’t mix well.

I feel like the Justin Reid contract is a good proxy for what Reed Blankenship will expect as fair market value.

Overall, my sense is we are on the slow roll to a more top heavy structure like the Chiefs roster…

2 -20.  I think that will be a 5

I compared Steen to Todd Herremans when we drafted him.  I think his pro career has followed that pretty well.  Like Herremans, Steen has been very versatile moving everywhere, both sides of the line.  (I believe Steen has played at least one snap everywhere but center).  Like Herremans, Steen is a bit tall and long for OG.

My concern, is that a somewhat high seated and very athletic LG in an AR offense that threw 40 times per game is a better fit than the equivalent at RG in an offense is built around a bruising, dominant, 60/40 rush attack.  While Steen might be even cleaner in pass pro, we are going to miss Becton as a bowling ball.

Not annoying me at all..I agree completely with your post. Reed is and has been steady back there but too many people watch football like

it's a Madden game..just want flashy, Reed's only down year was when we had soo many CB injuries that way too many young not ready CBs had to play

and Reed was tasked with trying to compensate for them..Ricks, Jobe were getting burned like Izell "toast" Jenkins. He will get his contract.

Safety is the biggest concern for me. I have no real faith that Brown can step in and be a starter.

LB - Can't depend on Dean. That's a significant injury. If Trotter, JR. steps up, still need depth. Even if Dean is back, he's a FA at the end of the year and I doubt Howie is going to pay him with the injury history.

TE - If Goedert is gone, this becomes an issue.

I would've like to keep him but now Steen has to show his worth but we also have Keegan who I've always thought reminded me of Herremans..he does need to put on at least 10-15 pounds.

I swear if Goedert gets traded next then this off-season couldn't have gone any worse so far sans Baun signing.

Relax, Chicken Little. It’s been a week.

The offense didn't turtle when Steen played.  He was the starter when they put up 55 in the NFCCG.

I am confident that after a full offseason of him repping with the starters, we'll still have a top-3 OL.

The sky isn't falling.

Exactly. Will be a nice camp competition with Steen, Keegan, and Green for RG. I expect Steen to win it.

Reed is absolutely getting his extension. He’s the veteran leader of the secondary now and is really underrated by many here.

Becton isn't $8M better than Steen.

I don't trust Brown either as the safety starter..Seth Joyner said it just the other day what I've been saying..

unless he learns to slow the F down and play the position he will be nothing more then a guy who maybe lays a big hit

or misses the tackle completly. He plays like he's on fire and that is not going to be succesful in the NFL

I'd like to see them bring back Fred Johnson soon.

Andre Dillard is a free agent 😉

That’s about what I thought Becton would get a couple weeks ago. I get not going there. Hope they draft a guard on day two. Now please get Ojulari or a safety.

It wasn't though, the pass blocking was occasionally shaky all season, sometimes Hurts would have all day, other times he'd have a free rusher inside a second. The interior line was a step back from the Dickerson, Kelce, Jurgens of the previous year.

Don't get me wrong it was still a way better OLine than the vast majority of the league, but Saquon is so much better than Swift it made the line look better than previous years when it wasn't.

Jurgens was better than Kelce.  Jelce had become a liability for penalties in his last couple of years and often made bad blitz pick up calls.

They need a TE, DE, DT, S maybe outside CB and now a RG. Goedert is basically gone too so that would also be an important need. There's a lot of off season left but definitely a lot of needs and it seems like they keep adding to that list which is going backwards, it's very frustrating and then combine that with only adding scrap heap type signings.
