The dropoff wasnt that noticeable to Steen, honestly.

i am all for drafting an OL if there is a guy we like. Not sure why the NC State tackle Belton seems to have fallen down boards so much

Grant from William and Mary looks like a good one.

Yeah ive seen a few highlights of him and his movement skills for his size are uncommon.

I have no idea what his combine numbers were but on tape he looks like the type of athlete stout would target.

Hes also pretty raw, which means less established bad habits for stout to eliminate

And the marginal increase in size doesnt mean much. steen is huge too and less plodding. steen wont have as mich brute strength but he shouldnt be on the ground as much either. Becton was useless on the tush push. I imagine is difficult not to play too high when you are 6-8 at guard

Everything is wrong with this analysis. Everything.

Its wild to me the differing opinions on the board for Becton.

Reality is, he was a middle of the pack guard, nothing more and nothing less, and thats ok, eagles didnt need him to be an all pro to win the bowl, they needed him to be solid and that he was, and the highlight plays he made were awesome and as said while Steen may not have the highlight pancake blocks becton did doesnt mean he cant be solid and effective as well

A compelling case

That's a real nice trade for the Vikings.  He was great last season before CMC came back and sent him to the bench.

My take on Becton without getting too technical…

His ability to move 300lb interior linemen to allow Barkley to get to the second level was elite.  Weapon like.

His theoretical but unrealized ability to be a dancing bear in pass protection was intriguing as a potential Lane replacement at RT.

In pure pass pro?  He had hiccups, faults, and let pressure through.  Not to the point of being bad or even average, but certainly not impressive.

With his loss, I feel that our offense loses a weapon.  But for all around OG play?  Steen will probably be just fine.

Baldy pointed this out a few times about The Big Ticket.  Just wiped out the linebacker.

It’s really noticeable on the all 22. You see him double team the DL to get movement going then completely obliterate people in space when moving to the second level.

He’s damn near twice the size of a safety stepping up in run support, and they just cannot cope with his size and nimbleness. He’s just too big and athletic. Even big linebackers are giving up 100+ pounds to him.

Howie is setting it up to take best available.  They can go a number of positions.  CB and safety should be in play as well. I agree a RB will be drafted.  I think there should be good options in the 4th round if they wait.

Good options in Day Three for DT, but not so much for Edge.

More so, he had this uncanny ability to hit a moving linebacker or safety in space. That was his secret sauce.

It was the guard equivalent of DeSean Jackson or Tyreek Hill deep speed. When he makes that block, it’s going to be an explosive play for any RB, with Barkley it’s almost a guaranteed TD.

Recognizing that this is only one opinion of Grant, I share it.

Yup.

Becton was the exact opposite of "plodding.”

He was like a sidewinder missile locked onto the heat signature of defenders at the second level.

Toast, I don’t think anyone would call Becton "plodding”

His Combine 40 time of 5.1 was faster than Steen’s 5.25 from Steen’s Pro Day.

Personally I’d rather this trade than signing Dillon. Mason was a solid RB1 when needed for them.

I think even in a best case scenario that Steen is a noticeable downgrade as a run blocker. You just can’t teach what Becton has. And I don’t think Steen is better in pass blocking either, though I think coaching and unit cohesion can impact this a bit more.

Will we still have a good line (barring injuries)? Almost certainly. Can Steen be a good player? Absolutely. But Becton just has talent that Steen does not.

Wrong.  Steen in my opinion was the better all around OG going into the season.  Becton beat him out by size and potential.  Steen will be better in pass pro and movement.  Bectom won by pure size.  Steen isn't much smaller.  Just wait for your plate of crow.

We seem to be collecting former first rounders who for one reason or another haven’t worked out so a guy I wouldn’t mind taking a flier on at this point is Jedrick Wills Jr

Wrong.

Becton is more athletic even at his size. Better is space, lighter feet, better body control.

Give me a break.  No way.  Thanks to Becton for the championship but Steen is way more athletic.  All becton had on him was his mass.  I save this for your crow plate.

Idk where we stand at the cap after the Marshalls/TJ Maxx shopping spree but I’d like to see Ojulari brought in. Too many holes to fill in the draft with S (assuming we draft or trade), DT (draft), edge (draft and FA/trade), CB (later draft/FA/trade), TE (higher pick if we trade Goedert, still would like a move for Mayer), RG (maybe a developmental pick), RT/LT backup (Fred for RT, maybe developmental RG/RT in draft).

The signings should impact the cap very little because only the top 51 players count against the cap in the offseason and the salaries are low enough that the top 51 probably stays the same or only increases slightly. Essentially if you added a 1.5mil player and he knocked a 1mil player out the top 51 then you available cap only goes down 500k

More like good will and garage sale shopping. I agree and want Ojulari but there's a hard line with a contract. I think a two year 20 mil, at most, is where I'm at. Maybe even 6-8 would be more ideal but doubt he goes any cheaper. I don't see any reason not to do that type of deal. Round 1 would be best available but I don't want TE there. I want to add to the defense.

Last year, the Yale tackle (Kiran Imagadget, sp?) went to the bears at 75. He is built a bit heavier than CG and had like 36” arms. This draft doesn’t have a lot of the H/W/S plus armlength OT combos, so CG will likely get pushed up a bit into this area of the draft despite being light. I’m taking 311lb measurement with a grain of salt because he didn’t do any drills. Carson Vinson also is in this category, but even less refined but I think he did OK at the senior bowl - maybe a 4th round target.
