Good options in Day Three for DT, but not so much for Edge.

Agreed. Tried some mock drafts for fun, and interesting DTs are available in RD2-3 pretty consistently. EDGE gets wiped out very fast.

It will be interesting where the run of the 2nd tier 3Ts begins - Harmon/Sanders/Alexander/Tennessee kid. Probably right around our 1st, I doubt they make it  to our 2nd.

Yup.

Becton was the exact opposite of "plodding.”

He was like a sidewinder missile locked onto the heat signature of defenders at the second level.

He is bigger, stronger, faster, and quicker. Saying otherwise does not make it so because all these things are measurable. It also cannot be argued but that Becton beat Steen out for the starting right guard position. These nonsensical criticisms of Becton fly in the face of what Stoutland did. I'll take his opinion over theirs.

You want criticisms, ok. Here they are. He has suffered two major knee injuries in his career, one of which cost him an entire season. Steen has only had a minor ankle injury. There may be something to the fact that Becton only got a two-year deal but anything there is only supposition. Becton is slightly knock-kneed. I don't have any data on how that affects performance or longevity but there it is. If someone wants to make something of that they had best come with data to support it.

Finally, and this is the biggie. He costs too much, what with our cap room and impending extensions for Carter et al. That's the bottom line.

Personally I’d rather this trade than signing Dillon. Mason was a solid RB1 when needed for them.

Very good off-season. Improved on both sides of the line. Jonathan Allen, Hargrave, Will Fries, Ryan Kelly... Nothing to scoff at there. Extended some of their own, stole Rogers from us, Mason and Jones is a nice 1-2 combo. Overall its pretty impressive and they are better than what they were last year. I'm not a Darnold guy so I was ok with them letting him go. If Rodgers doesn't go there I would be ok with handing the keys over to the kid.

I openly questioned his potential cost vs whom we had. Is Becton 8 million better than Steen/Green? I was afraid the answer was plain for us to see with the way the FO operates, especially once Green was brought in. I wanted Becton back, I would've matched that deal but with what they are doing, I understand it. Still sucks. I love the ceiling of Becton and he's only 25. Now we have to hope that Green can be coached up to his 1st round potential by Stout. I think it's a safe assumption Cam is their focus. I hope he rebounds from the back injury and will be worth the price tag. A tiny part of me wonders if they should've paid Becton at RG and not pay Jurgens.

I wonder if the Eagles thought they were getting Reid when they traded CJGJ.  Probably not but that trade still makes little sense

Is Dickerson worth $20M/yr? It’s not that Landon is twice as better, it’s just he is an Ace while Becton might be a Queen and Steen might be a Jack (and the whole league is like a pinochle deck with a high floor but a 9 is basically worthless). Now what cards are the opposing defenses holding, and have we maintained our edge?

No chess metaphor here, because in chess you have exact information.

In a bad mood today.  Here is my Kempski-esque dumpster fire list.

  • Super Bowl hangover:  It was a long season.  Lot's of offseason distractions come with the championship.  Some of the fire goes away.
  • New coordinator/coaches on offense:  We saw it two seasons ago.  The game planning/play calling dynamic is fragile.  Hurts wants things a certain way.  Will it fall apart again.
  • Late season injuries: Dean, Smith, Dickerson, and Jurgens.  Less time to recover.  Will miss time on the grass during the offseason.  Will they be the same?
  • Injury luck in general: I see the things that they do to protect their players, but random bad luck will show up eventually.
  • Defensive departures: The unit will take a step back.  It could be a huge one if their replacement plans fail.
  • Draft success:  Howie can't keep hitting on his day 1 and 2 picks, can he?  Even so, counting on rookies to offset their FA losses is a big risk.
  • Harder schedule:  They have the 4th hardest based on 2024 records.  11 games against playoff teams.

Enjoy your day.

I'm still naively holding out hope for Simmons.

Can we get him for $2.5M or less?

I think he'd be a post draft signing. He lingered last year.

More so, he had this uncanny ability to hit a moving linebacker or safety in space. That was his secret sauce.

It was the guard equivalent of DeSean Jackson or Tyreek Hill deep speed. When he makes that block, it’s going to be an explosive play for any RB, with Barkley it’s almost a guaranteed TD.

No he was actually the least important run blocker. Sure he punked some small guys like on the rams and skins. But literally every other OL was more important to the scheme bc of their pulling and movement

I’m weighing will the defense and run game still be good enough this season, so that we can turtle for stretches to preserve Hurts for the playoffs.

Looking at safety, Vic will want someone in this draft. I don't think the top two are likely so the high end second tier guys I'm looking at. Xavier Watts ; Kevin Winston, Malachi Moore , Jonas Sanker. The first two I don't think make it to our 2nd but you could trade up in round 2, rather than in round 1. Like we did with Cooper last year.

Sheer nonsense. He pulled more than every other OL.

Looking at someone who is pretty far down the rankings, Hunter Wohler fits the bill for this team.

II want nothing to do with him. Stick with the youth movement.

I suspect that does not account for re-structures, or additional extensions. I am certain our "Rest of Cap" block is not going to continue to shrink.
