Looking at someone who is pretty far down the rankings, Hunter Wohler fits the bill for this team.

I like him, though I really prefer the higher tiered prospect for Safety. Most likely round 2 is where I'm looking, but we pick so far back. If they miss out and someone like Moore slips to day 3, then a trade up would be something I look for. If they get completely skunked, then a guy like Hunter would be fine on day 3.

Watts & Winston are my two. Watts seems to have a bit of CJ to his game but Winston has that great size.

UW guys in general seem to be a fit for this defense, maybe less so if they are moving farther away from Leonhard / 2-4-5.

In a bad mood today.  Here is my Kempski-esque dumpster fire list.

  • Super Bowl hangover:  It was a long season.  Lot's of offseason distractions come with the championship.  Some of the fire goes away.
  • New coordinator/coaches on offense:  We saw it two seasons ago.  The game planning/play calling dynamic is fragile.  Hurts wants things a certain way.  Will it fall apart again.
  • Late season injuries: Dean, Smith, Dickerson, and Jurgens.  Less time to recover.  Will miss time on the grass during the offseason.  Will they be the same?
  • Injury luck in general: I see the things that they do to protect their players, but random bad luck will show up eventually.
  • Defensive departures: The unit will take a step back.  It could be a huge one if their replacement plans fail.
  • Draft success:  Howie can't keep hitting on his day 1 and 2 picks, can he?  Even so, counting on rookies to offset their FA losses is a big risk.
  • Harder schedule:  They have the 4th hardest based on 2024 records.  11 games against playoff teams.

Enjoy your day.

Much of that is a good argument to try to take some of the cap pain this year and re-group. That includes both contracts and seeing which young players can actually contribute in 2026 which requires giving them playing time

I think he'd be a post draft signing. He lingered last year.

I agree, post June 1st so the comp picks are no longer effected. I'd think he commands up to 5 mil total, but with incentives included in there.

I think it's actually the Tuesday after the draft that players can be signed without impacting comp picks.  Not sure though

While the Eagles may not be very active this free agency and possibly so next free agency(although probably not quite as quiet as this year) Lurie is gonna have to put Howie in a straight jacket to contain him from the amount of trades he's going to want to make with all these draft picks he has to work with.

Draft weekend the next two drafts is where you're really gonna see the Howie magic happen. Moving up, moving down, trading for players, trading for future picks.

As many picks as the Eagles have in 2026 I guarantee Howie will come out of this year's draft with even more 2026 picks and in 2026 will will parlay some of those picks into 2027 picks. He has a bunch of startup cash and I think he's going to use the picks to position the Eagles to be stocked in terms of picks for multiple years down the line.

I still have a hard time believing that Howie has the patience to go through this offseason with the most significant new player acquisition coming with pick 32.

The rationale I can get behind is that the Eagles, while they will be very good next year, are backing resources off a 2025 season that will see them very, very unlikely to repeat no matter how many players they sign in the offseason.

A lot is going to ride on Ringo, Brown, Jalyx Hunt, Steen, Jordan Davis…

And there is no proven stud we can actually sign that changes that.  So throw them all against the wall this year and see who sticks.

Some of them are going to be studs and some will probably disappoint, maybe even suck.

Then next offseason…you get real talent to fill the holes.  If you do it now, you might over extend yourself, you might invest resources just to keep a potential stud on the bench and block their development.  Give them all their shot and next year it will be a bit easier to replace the ones that don’t step up.

As they balance the cap to ensure future extensions are possible, they will need to consider that they are currently in the window to win super bowls now. So I think some picks may be used on 1 year rental type players from the trade market.

Yep that's the other side of it.  Barkley & Lane & possibly even AJ don't project to contribute 3 years from now

I still think there's the possibility they can add a safety and an edge better than the caliber they've added so far. If we see Blackmon sign for 1 year 3m or Ojulari sign for 1 year 4m and the Eagles didn't get in on it, I'm gonna be a little annoyed.

We still need clarity on just how jammed up the Eagles are. The one thing about the CJGJ trade is I know the Eagles need to keep flexibility open for future deals with their young stars, but I find it hard to believe that if they didn't trade CJGJ that it would've ruined their ability to do that. I just can't buy that, he's not even making that much money. If it was a DL making like 30m I'd get it, but they really had to get rid of CJGJ or it would've cost them one or multiple of Carter/Jurgens/Nolan/Reed? Gonna call fake news on that one.

Who knows, maybe it's true, but if the Eagles truly go this entire free agency without adding a single player to more than the usual 1/1.5m that they've been signing, I still say there's more going on behind the scenes than just cap management here.

I think with the other guys it was cap management.  With CJGJ it was something else. Justin Reid said they were in and even if at a lower number than Saints it would have been a hit bigger than CJGJ

We will contend again next year.  But Howie has to manage the cap because of that chart.  Looks like he is trying to stuff all the dead money into 2025.  If he can pull off DG and BH, that would be something.  Once you know the dead money, then it's easier to build the roster.  Thinking he would like to figure it out by the draft if possible.

I see some CJ in there. He doesn't cause penalties, yet has great instincts, ball skills and intelligence. He came in a little taller than expected at the combine at 6'. Was previously listed at 5'11. Arms aren't terribly short either at 31 and a quarter. He did not participate at the combine but athleticism and speed seem to be good enough, just not mind blowing or top of the class.

Looks like you're right, starting the Tuesday after the draft, any FA signing no longer effected by comp rules.

Backup LT seems like an underrated need. If they don’t re-sign Fred they got nothing and that doesn’t seem like a rookie job

There's quite a few day 3 guys with the size Stout likes. They showed some interest in the William & Mary kid, but he doesn't have the size they typically go for. Maybe he's an exception... This is another position we may look at after the draft when the comp pick window is closed.

We're starting to get to the stage where it might be best to draft Lane's future replacement and use him as the swing tackle as he learns the ropes. But from my understanding it's not the best OL draft, and we've got lots of D needs so I dunno if that's feasible.

Jarquez Hunter seems a little under the radar in the RB class. He plays bigger than his size and looks like he can handle a full workload, if needed. His average burst is a knock against him, but he did run a 4.44 so if he gets blocking like he will here, he has speed to break big plays.

Look at the first 3 "strengths" in his NFL.com scouting report. He was born to play for this eagles team.

  • Known for his character and work ethic.
  • Embraces contact and can handle a heavy workload.
  • Squat-rack warrior with immense power in his lower half.

More like good will and garage sale shopping. I agree and want Ojulari but there's a hard line with a contract. I think a two year 20 mil, at most, is where I'm at. Maybe even 6-8 would be more ideal but doubt he goes any cheaper. I don't see any reason not to do that type of deal. Round 1 would be best available but I don't want TE there. I want to add to the defense.

If Tyler Warren or Colston Loveland were still on the Board at 32 you wouldn’t take them? Hmmmmm.

Did we ever get the real numbers on the Adore contact? It seemed high

Are there any studs who could slip a bit that the Eagles may trade up for? The only player I can think of is Warren. They certainly have the draft resources to move up.

Oh yeah, love me some Hunter.

Yes/very likely - pretty much a BPA call.
