Agreed. Tried some mock drafts for fun, and interesting DTs are available in RD2-3 pretty consistently. EDGE gets wiped out very fast.

An Edge that seems to last in the simulators is UCLA’s Oluwafemi Oladejo who may be worth developing. Boise State’s Ahmed Hassanein is another.

If Tyler Warren or Colston Loveland were still on the Board at 32 you wouldn’t take them? Hmmmmm.

I could see Warren. But man, after the amount of players out the door on D, I really want to go that route. Warren looks like he could be an exception however. but I can't see him making it into the 20's so he's probably not a realistic option. Loveland is ok, but would go defense over hm at 32 or even with a trade back so I'd pass on him.

This is a pretty good list. I respect someone actually putting some thought into an article rather than rehashing quotes

I don't care if Isaiah Simmons has never lived up to his draft billing. I want to bring him in and gamble on him flourishing with the talent that would surround him on this team.

Oladejo profiles closely with Jalyx - LB turned DE. I think he has the multi-faceted skillset that Vic appreciates.

He tried a different kind of a happy ending.

Are there any studs who could slip a bit that the Eagles may trade up for? The only player I can think of is Warren. They certainly have the draft resources to move up.

Usually it would be for a DL or OL.  The top 30 visits have typically been very telling about who they are interested in.  We'll see who comes in

He is bigger, stronger, faster, and quicker. Saying otherwise does not make it so because all these things are measurable. It also cannot be argued but that Becton beat Steen out for the starting right guard position. These nonsensical criticisms of Becton fly in the face of what Stoutland did. I'll take his opinion over theirs.

You want criticisms, ok. Here they are. He has suffered two major knee injuries in his career, one of which cost him an entire season. Steen has only had a minor ankle injury. There may be something to the fact that Becton only got a two-year deal but anything there is only supposition. Becton is slightly knock-kneed. I don't have any data on how that affects performance or longevity but there it is. If someone wants to make something of that they had best come with data to support it.

Finally, and this is the biggie. He costs too much, what with our cap room and impending extensions for Carter et al. That's the bottom line.

Thank you for that informed and (mostly) objective assessment.  I defer to your expertise and experience.

Did any of the sub 2 million free agents make it last year?

Not debating the bigger, stronger. In fact insaid that too

but what are we basing quicker, faster on? Combine number preinjury at some historically lighter weight? Bc i didnt see that on the field at all

We all know we have an idea of what the plan is, but this is hardly inspiring to read.

In a bad mood today.  Here is my Kempski-esque dumpster fire list.

  • Super Bowl hangover:  It was a long season.  Lot's of offseason distractions come with the championship.  Some of the fire goes away.
  • New coordinator/coaches on offense:  We saw it two seasons ago.  The game planning/play calling dynamic is fragile.  Hurts wants things a certain way.  Will it fall apart again.
  • Late season injuries: Dean, Smith, Dickerson, and Jurgens.  Less time to recover.  Will miss time on the grass during the offseason.  Will they be the same?
  • Injury luck in general: I see the things that they do to protect their players, but random bad luck will show up eventually.
  • Defensive departures: The unit will take a step back.  It could be a huge one if their replacement plans fail.
  • Draft success:  Howie can't keep hitting on his day 1 and 2 picks, can he?  Even so, counting on rookies to offset their FA losses is a big risk.
  • Harder schedule:  They have the 4th hardest based on 2024 records.  11 games against playoff teams.

Enjoy your day.

All good points.  The players have to get back to the grind, but we fans get our own Super Bowl hangover, and it feels awesome.  So we are a bit luckier than they are.

With that fan-centric thought out of the way, here are my thoughts on your concerns.

With all the KC threepeat slobbering the Birds had to put up with, I think they will have something to prove to everyone and that will keep them focused.

What happened with 2023 should be an object lesson that guides this season.  Plus the new OC in 2023 didn’t inherit a Saquon.  The first four weeks of 2024 should be an object lesson as well.

Both of your injury concerns are the highest concerns on my list, especially the first one.

The Defensive departures are counterbalanced by the roster building strengths of this FO team.  I’m less worried about those departures because there are next men in place to step up.

Yes Howie can keep hitting in the Draft.  He has put together a cast around him that produces better information on Draft Day than other teams have, and he has learned from his mistakes.  And this Draft happens to fortuitously be strong and deep in the areas where the Eagles have needs.  A BPA draft will almost surely match up well for the Eagles.

One of the less discussed pluses for the Eagles leading up to the SB was that they were battle tested.  A hard schedule was the reason that was true.  They will be battle tested again this year.

I think he'd be a post draft signing. He lingered last year.

That is my expectation as well.  Perhaps hope even more than expectation

No he was actually the least important run blocker. Sure he punked some small guys like on the rams and skins. But literally every other OL was more important to the scheme bc of their pulling and movement

Like I said yesterday, will you two please get a room.

FWIW there are good points in each of your positions.  And beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Also what’s done is done.  Howie has made our decision for us.

Solid list, Simmons has a lot of talent and yeah maybe vic could be the guy to help him put it together

To everyone talking about strength of schedule, you never really know how good teams are going to be until the week you play them.  There could be key injuries, the teams could have been good in '24 and not so much in '25....but the whole NFC East has a brutal schedule:

1-NYG .574 2t-CHI .571 2t-DET .571 4-PHI .561 5t-DAL .557 5t-GB .557 5t-MIN .557 8-WSH .550 9-BAL .533 10-PIT .526 11t-KC .522 11t-LAC .522 13-CLE .519 14-CIN .509 15-DEN .505 16-LV .502 17-LAR .491 18t-HOU .481 18t-TB .481 20-ATL .478 21t-MIA .474 21t-SEA .474 23t-BUF .467 23t-JAX .467 25-IND .464 26-NYJ .460 27t-ARI .457 27t-CAR .457 29-TEN .450 30-NE .429 31-NO .419 32-SF .415

And looking at this...Minnesota has the 5th toughest with Green Bay, Detroit has the 2nd toughest.  The one that is just flat out shocking is San Francisco with the easiest schedule.  The Eagles could easily win the division with 10 or 11 wins.  I don't think it's beyond reason that you could potentially get the #1 or #2 seed with a 12-5 record.

PS....the tank for Manning is definitely going to be alive and well in the Meadowlands!

Looking at safety, Vic will want someone in this draft. I don't think the top two are likely so the high end second tier guys I'm looking at. Xavier Watts ; Kevin Winston, Malachi Moore , Jonas Sanker. The first two I don't think make it to our 2nd but you could trade up in round 2, rather than in round 1. Like we did with Cooper last year.

Those 12 picks in 2026 will prove Howie with plenty of trade up ammunition

Should this graph include Dead Cap as well?

I like him, though I really prefer the higher tiered prospect for Safety. Most likely round 2 is where I'm looking, but we pick so far back. If they miss out and someone like Moore slips to day 3, then a trade up would be something I look for. If they get completely skunked, then a guy like Hunter would be fine on day 3.

Watts & Winston are my two. Watts seems to have a bit of CJ to his game but Winston has that great size.

What are your thoughts about Sebastian Castro the Safety from Iowa?

1 hour ago, greendestiny27 said:

I agree, post June 1st so the comp picks are no longer effected. I'd think he commands up to 5 mil total, but with incentives included in there.

Post April 28th not post June 1st.

More of a day 3 option. I want a higher profile prospect personally. He's a little undersized, not great in coverage, almost like a Sidney Brown style player. I'm looking elsewhere if possible.

Is he intimidating the NFL so much they fear to punish the Eagles, or the players so much they never leave the facility?

Today is a good lottery watching day. 6ers, Nets, and Raptors all playing.

Yes on the combine vs. pro day numbers. No to the historically lighter weight.
