Its very debatable and you responded like a child.

No, actually it’s not.

It’s simple.  If you are an NFL GM and you use your first round pick on a RB knowing the RB will only get 8 touches a game and when asked why you did it, you respond,

"Well, you can draft WR’s in the first round knowing they only get 8 touches a game, that’s why I did it.”

Not only would you be laughed at, you would no longer have a job after that press conference.  Congratulations. 🎉

The thing with that is, pretty much all around the world people's entertainment dollar is being stretched thin, it could be that the NFL is about to move to a subscription deal just as the carousel stops. The current TV deals are rock solid, free to air will always have the money to spend or be able to raise it.

If you're trying to sell a subscription to people who used to get their sport for free, and they're paying more for food, energy, housing and everything else, you may find the market you thought was there just isn't. and even for a company the size of Amazon an high 11 figure annual TV deal will hit pretty hard pretty quick if your customers can't or won't pony up in the numbers you expect.

In the US that's probably true.

In Germany the NFL is booming and I'd bet there's more countries just like that..

Berman made a point today that kind of ties into something we discussed a day or so ago and he said if Ringo wins the job this year and plays really well, he's likely gone in a year or two because they won't be able to afford to pay him, Quinyon and DeJean.

A big reason I don't think they'd use a first rounder on CB unless it was far and away #1 on their board.

Or, they do that because the rookies extension will hit at a different time than Ringo's which makes everything work out then.

This is only true if he's "great". If he's ok, we can easily afford an extension.

And if the problem is that we have a great CB for 2 years, fantastic.

While we have lost players, it's amazing how really no one else in the NFC really has gotten better.

Washington -- talking heads love the moves, but it's not 2021. Deebo is hot garbage and can't beat man coverage anymore. Tunsil lead the league in penalties. Relying on Ertz and Flecther to stay healthy again is risky. But most importantly -- they gave up 7 rushing TDs in the championship game and have done nothing to improve the run defense. They had a bunch of lucky breaks/wins (Hail Mary against Chicago, Jalen being knocked out, Saints miss 2 pt conversion, squeak by Falcons, Mariota beats Dallas).

Detroit -- lost both coordinators, and Dan Campbell is what the media accused Sirianni of being -- an overly aggressive clown that costs his team games.

Rams -- I'm not sure if Adams is an upgrade from Kupp at this point, but Stafford is a year older and may be the most overrated QB in the league. The young defense may get better, but I'll take the under on Stafford, Nacua and Adams staying healthy. And the offensive line is still a problem.

Vikings -- total unknown at QB

Packers -- didn't beat anyone last year

49ers -- dismantling the team

I still think if the right guy at the right price falls into place they will sign them potentially cancelling out Becton's 5th round compensatory pick. Ojulari is probably be the only guy out there who fits that bill. I definitely think if they can get Simmons or Blackmon at a price they like they will gladly give up the Rodgers 6th round comp pick. Who knows, maybe they can get a Marcus Williams on a cheap one year deal at some point coming off of a bad season. They almost signed him to a massive deal when he went to the Ravens.

I think it's more likely a trade or a vet who hasn't been released yet at this point. Settling for Justin Simmons is the last thing I want them to do.

In the beginning of FA, all we heard was how Washington had a ton of cap space and was going to load up for a run.

Now?  Their FA moves barely move the needle for me and we have more space than they do.

Why? He is the perfect person to sign for those who want to see guys like Brown and Cine get a legit chance to start. If nothing else they have a guy in Simmons with plenty of starting experience who can play the position at an ok level, but if Brown or Cine step up the bar isn't high enough to where they coudn't beat him out.

Don't show this to Aaron Rowand. This might be the weakest "crash" in to an outfield wall I've ever seen.

Looks to me like he forgot there was a fence at all.  Looked completely surprised to run into it.

They did everything wrong with their first year of FA with Daniels at QB. Fresh off an NFCCG appearance and the moves they made don't make them a bigger threat.

Players in general care about money over winning. I don't know how many times this needs to be repeated.

Exhibit A. Milton Williams. He just said signing his contract and becoming the highest AAV in Patriots history was a bigger moment for him than winning the Super Bowl.

Exhibit B. Myles Garrett.

So on and so forth. There isn't going to be a guy who thinks "I already made X so I can take less at my next job". The only few times players leave money on the table is either to do a prove it deal TO MAKE MORE MONEY or if they do a small hometown discount to not uproot their entire families life.

This. Most of their career is just about money. Once they’re out of their prime, no longer good enough to be paid big money, they then want a title.

EXACTLY. If Ringo balls out to the point where he gets a massive deal elsewhere in 2027 that is a really good thing because that means we got stud CB 2 play for two seasons on the super cheap.

I have no issue with players taking the biggest payday they can get, and they damn well should. Pro athletes' earnings potential is backwards when compared to everyone else in the country -- they make the most in their 20s and early 30s, but then they stop getting checks and have 50+ years they need to live. Most of these guys don't have the requisite skills to get "real" jobs -- they focused on football all their lives. A small handful will get media gigs, but most are going to be out of work in their 30s and the money needs to last a lifetime.

It doesn't mean that they'll never make another dime as long as they live. Will they make a $million or multiple $millions/year? Probably not but if they don't be stupid and once retired live on what they make post NFL, they can still do okay. For instance, Emmitt Smith is a partner(?) in a Real Estate business. I imagine though more NFL players end up like Bashaud Breeland, arrested for a second time on felony drug charges.

Not to mention the NFL Pension if they accrued more than 3 seasons. It's not much, but it's something.

Given their burn rate these guys have a hard time making it to 55 and the ~$500-$700 monthly allowance the pension program provides (for eligible players accruing years before 2016).

I see that they got serious after 2016, where the pension jumps to $3600/month.

It's per season, so the least amount they could get is that x3 (~$1500) since they have to have 3 seasons anyway.

Okay, that’s not poverty and pretty decent compared to a normie for the 2016+ players (assuming inflation can be tempered).

Feels like vikings did well. They and the rams will be the primary compeition. Det will still be a decent team but the OC was a huge loss

Literally every single team improved except for the Niners. Even Chicago and the Giants made improvements. Dallas to me will slip though. Not thrilled with the Falcons and Seahawks off-seasons, so far.

I still think it's odd that Donovan Jackson was considered a top 10-15 pick in the draft and a future all-pro guard then gets moved out to OT since Simmons went down with injury.  He goes in and plays extremely well especially in the playoffs and now he's a late 1st to mid 2nd round pick.  If we're not sold on Steen I think he makes a ton of sense at 32 if available.
