I think his roster bonus is guaranteed for this year... $16+M.  That's why they need to trade him before that hits if its going to do anything for them on the cap.

He costs $5M extra on the cap this year, if traded before June 1.  His cap number drops to just over $3M this year, and the rest in 2026, if traded post-June 1, but before the roster bonus comes due.

I absolutely could see Howie giving up draft capital to unload Huff. The cap space is more precious to them that late pick or even a 5 if it came to that

Considering we dont know the back issue he has, or exactly what surgery he had I guess the longer he goes without an extension the more people will question the eagles impression of his long term prognosis.

Until he is extended, some fans may wonder if the eagles decided to put off extension talks to wait and see how he responds to the procedure.

I guess.

There have been players extended at different times, sometimes it's just lining things up with the agent, or just an assumed thing on the list but other things take precedence.

Flyers are as close to the bottom of the league as the Sixers — and just watch them promote Tortorella instead of firing him.  It’s the Flyers way.

Stefon Diggs: Didn’t Houston restructure the remainder of his contract to make it a one year deal?

I feel like we heard nothing about him.

Sixers blow a game they should have won. Flyers lose.

What a great night of tanking.

That is probably the case, but they only save cap space if their trading partner is willing to assume financial responsibility for the guaranteed roster bonus (in whole or in part).  That might happen but I suspect it is a long shot.  Atlanta reputedly has interest and Cleveland ought to.

Flyers were doing fine until they capitalized on the trade deadline to move several veterans to gather draft assets needed to continue their rebuild.  The recent string of losses gals int the category of "pardon our dust, temporary inconvenience for permanent improvement.”  Time will tell whether they have used the gathered assets well.

Watch them get jumped in the lottery, drop down to 7 and the pick going to OKC

Alright, here is a list of names:

Tyler Steen, Sidney Brown, Lewis Cine, Jalyx Hunt, Jordan Davis, Moro Ojomo, Josh Uche, Azeez Ojulari, Kenyon Green, Kelee Ringo, Adore Jackson

11 names.  This collective, some new, some here last year…all young…is who will be tasked with replacing Becton/Williams/Sweat/Slay/CJGJ.  (5 solid starters, no pro-bowlers).

Rank them 1-11.  Put each one in one of the following categories: A. Pro-bowl level upgrade. B.  Successful/equivalent replacement.  C. Adequate starter, but downgrade.  D. Below average starter / useful depth or rotation player.  E. Useless roster filler.

Thank goodness.

I’ll go:

3. Sidney Brown.  B.
4. Jalyx Hunt.  B/C
5. Tyler Steen. C.
6. Moro Ojomo.  D
7. Adore Jackson. D.
8. Azeez Ojulari. D.
9. Lewis Cine. D.
10. Kenyon Green D/E

1. Jordan Davis - Will have his usual role, might do more in contract year
2. Azeez Ojulari - 2nd or 3rd edge rusher, 6-10 sacks
3. Jalyx Hunt - 2nd or 3rd edge rusher, 6-10 sacks
4. Kenyon Green / Tyler Steen - Winner of battle will do well between Jurgens and Lane
5. Kelee Ringo - Love the traits, measurable, and two red-shirt years to get ready
6. Moro Ojomo - Should have a role as the 3rd or 4th DT
BIG DROP OFF
7. Josh Uche - Not counting on him but is a fall back options to AO, JH, and the draft
8. Adore Jackson - Not counting on him but is a fall back option if Ringo majorly disappoints
9. Sidney Brown - The Eagles other starting S isn't on the roster yet, will compete for 3rd S spot
10. Lewis Cine - The Eagles other starting S isn't on the roster yet, will compete for 3rd S spot

No E’s and no A’s  Hard to assign the B’s C’s and D’s because some are competing for the same position.

I could accept that in theory except for the fact they were horrible down the stretch last season too, with almost no moves.  Tortorella is such an abrasive personality and acts even more crotchety after wins — that act gets stale after a few months.

I just meant he'll be taking a short deal elsewhere when the Saints are anywhere near competing, I'm aware he has rings FFS.

1. Steen, I suspect it was pretty much a wash last year with Becton but Becton was never bad enough to lose the starting gig following Steen's pre season injury. The pass protection might actually be more consistent.

2. Hunt - Showed flashes of real talent down the stretch, should be fine again in rotation, expect an early draft pick DE to challenge him for snaps.

3. Ojomo - was fine as a rotational DT, expect him to pick up a few more snaps following Williams departure as they season a DT picked in the first 2 days into the pros.

4. Ojulari - He put up 6 sacks on the Giants last year, if he can do that here he's a solid pick up, if he improves playing on a more stacked line he could be a steal.

5. Davis - Is a quality run stuffing DT now, but is at a cross roads, one way leads to a starters contract extension, the other leads to a rotation guy contract with escalators, he showed he can be effective collapsing a pocket down the stretch, he just needs to do it all the time.

6. Brown - I think he has the talent and athletically he's probably better than CJGJ, but the knee injury at the end of his rookie year meant he's been stuck on special teams, he has a shot, not least because CJGJ was a highlight player who wasn't so good at the bread and butter football, expect to see a safety in the draft to push him.

7. Ringo - does he have talent? Yes, but Slay put up his best year in a while last year and it's big shoes to fill.

8. Jackson - The sort of solid, dependable workaday cover at corner that rosters need, if he's starting, Ringo has flamed out.

9. Uche - Haven't really seen enough to comment, remember he had one big year in New England, could be this years Zach Baun, could be this years Devin White.

Joint 10th.  Cine and Green, Lottery tickets, both were first round level talents less than 5 years ago, if we get either or both back to anywhere near that level they're a bonus and a possible ticket to draft capital down the road, if they don't work out, they're rounding errors on the dead cap.

Fran Duffy poured a little cold water on Azeez in the PHLY podcast. Said he studied his 2024 tape and he lacked the same explosion coming out of college, blaming the injuries mostly. Hopefully that loss isn't permanent and with a full off-season here he will get it back.

What’s your definition of fine, bottom 3rd in the league?

Besides TK, Michkov, and Tippett, you have still need 3 more guys for the top 2 lines. Luchenko might be a second line player but it’s too early to tell. They need a number 1 center and number 1 defensemen, neither of which grow on trees. Just got hope they hit on the next couple drafts.

Jordan Davis - A (This is the year for him)

Jalyx Hunt - A (If he can pass rush and legitimately drop back to cover he might be crazy year two under Fangio)

Tyler Steen - B

Moro Ojomo - C

Azeez Ojulari - C

Kelee Ringo - C

Sydney Brown - C

Kenyon Green - D

Josh Uche - D

Adore Jackson - D

Lewis Cine - E

It will be interesting to see how the Flyers handle their wealth of top end draft picks. They have 12 picks in the first 2 rounds over the next 3 years. It's a shame the NHL draft isn't like the NFL draft because I would be salivating over the possibilities. The truth of it is, unless there's a McDavid or Crosby prospect available, most picks, even in the 1st round end up being complete wild cards.

I'm hoping they bundle some picks and trade for young, elite talent. Doubtful, but we an hope.

Out of the last 8 drafts, how many of their 1st or 2nd round picks are core pieces? We all know Michkov is the prize and he's proving it. Jett could be a good player, but he's a complete unknown. Foerster, Brink, York are all good players, but are they core pieces the Flyers MUST keep?

2024- Jett Luchanko, Jack Berglund, Spencer Gill,

2023- Matvei Michkov, Oliver Bonk, Carson, Bjarnason

2022- Cutter Gautier

2021- Samu Tuomaala

2020- Tyson Foerster, Emil Andre

2019- Cam York, Bobby Brink

2018- Joel Farabee, Jay O'Brien, Adam Ginning

2017- Nolan Patrick, Morgan Frost, Isaac Ratcliffe

2025- 3 1st, 4 2nd

2026- 1st and 2nd

2027- 2 1st round picks and 2nd

1. Davis - B Critical to our run defense. Aside from Carter our entire DL is undersized.

2. Hunt - B  I liked what I saw a lot and he should only get better.

3. Ringo - C  It had better be his time.

4. Cine and Brown both - C

5. Steen - C Strictly a journeyman

6. Ojulari - C Another undersized edge with good quickness.

7. Ojomo - D Can't anchor worth a lick.

8. Uche - D It grieves me to give a Michigan man this grade but just another undersized edge.

9. Green - E Useless this season. It will take Stoutland a full year to fix this guy.

10. Jackson - C Until proved otherwise.

In sum, a bunch of undersized edge rushers and DBs with questions. Davis and Hunt are the only ones I like.

Might just be waiting to see the recovery from his back surgery.  There's no real incentive to sign him too soon.
