Anyone else worried that Goedert might be gone?  I trust in Howie's process given his track record, but man, I don't see a good tight end situation without Dallas here this season. I hope they can come to an agreement for at least 1 more year so the Eagles can draft a tight end and have some sort of succession plan to Goedert.

I'm not really worried.  I trust that they have a plan until proven otherwise.

It took weeks before he agreed to move over.

Here is the actual timeline:

Brooks gets injured in June.

JP (unsigned) says he would be willing to move to guard to continue his career

On July 14 JP is signed to a 1 year / $3M contract with incentives that could bring it to $6M

Aug 27 --- Dillard tears bicep

Aug 29 --- McLain reports "sources" saying Peters would want a raise to move back to LT. Peters never made a statement but McLane's tweet paraphrased the sentiment as "Pay me more to play left tackle" --- Which was not an actual quote from JP. Click bait sites like Heavy.com reported this with their own click-bait titles like "Peters demands pay raise..."

Aug 29 --- Pederson issues a statement saying JP is  "in the conversation."

Sep 2 --- Eagles deny moving JP to LT was the plan at that time. "I don't understand where some of these reports are coming from," Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said before practice Tuesday. "Jason Peters for us has done an outstanding job at right guard. He's comfortable at right guard. We have some options at left tackle that we're working through over there."

Sep 7 --- JP agrees to move back to LT. "Jason Peters came into my office this morning and he has decided to slide over to left tackle," coach Doug Pederson said Monday. "This is the unselfishness [of Peters]. This is who he is. He sacrifices not only his body but for the football team. ... I'm thrilled to death."

Sep 10 --- Eagles rework JP's contract to a 1 year/ $4M with incentives that could bring it to $8M.

Hey ... don't let facts persuade you. Just keep consuming the click-bait

To change the discussion a little bit...

how did this take age?

Is Pickett better or worse off now than he was a year ago?   Got to live his dream playing for his childhood favorite team... got to take snaps in the NFC CG for that team... got to take snaps in the Super Bowl... got a ring with his childhood favorite team... and is now lined up to be the starter in Cleveland.  Is that worse, better or basically in the same situation, but with a championship ring to his resume... and a life time of memories of a great ride?

What's your take?

If we asked Pickett I’m guessing he’d probably say better simply cause he gets to compete to be a starting NFL qb (what he said according to May Kay Cabot). Their Qb situation long term is wild cause of Watson’s contract. I’m guessing they know he’s not the guy long term but that contract makes it really hard to move off of but need that long term Qb going forward

Unquestionably better.  He goes from a place he would have never had a chance to become the starting QB to a place with a ln uncertain QB future and the chance to start this year.  Doing so in the same division of the team that drafted him and then trades him so he gets the revenge factor as well.  He also has a Super Bowl ring that he wasn't ever going to win otherwise as a starter anywhere.

Got it. 11 days, not weeks.   So, a week and a half.   And he didn't move, until after the contract was renegotiated, which is exactly what I said.

Doug wasn't going to go public with the idea that Peters is refusing to move, so he mentioned 'in the conversation', meaning it was still being negotiated, and Peters remained at OG until the contract was done.    Then he moved over... after the contract was renegotiated.

Jalen was only 11 years old when Brandon was drafted.   He went to Middle School, High School, 1st Date, Prom, College, Got Drafted, Won a NFC Championship, Lost a Super Bowl.  Went back and won the NFC Championship again and won the Super Bowl all while The Cowboys NFC Championship drought has reached 29 years, lol.

Do you have one single statement that backs up your stance or just "pure conjecture" as I already pointed out? Also, I have no idea how you came up with 11 days. JP moved back before the pay raise. There are zero reports that he refused to play LT in practice and several that state that he was continuing to practice at RG in early September.

Graham came into the league when they were still running out 270+ lb 4-3 DEs and playing base defense a huge % of the time. We had Cole then at RDE, and I always thought Graham was a square peg, round hole fit for a true 4-3 LDE. Then we had the Washburn fiasco followed by the Billy Davis years. It wasn’t til Schwartz came in that Graham got a fair shake. I think it’s absolutely fair to say we never truly saw Graham’s upside as a player, at least not for an extended period in his prime.

I say that to say, anyone thinking Graham’s legacy is lesser because of his career sack production is missing what made his career so unique. He’s an all-timer for sure, and one of my favorite Eagles.

I think to some extent Graham was who he was as a player.  He was always kind of a tweener as a player. Graham didn't have the length that some other top DE's had when he came into the League but he was close to 270 at the combine.  He also showed burst in his athletic testing.  What Graham did not have as a player is the kind of bend and length to convert sacks from a DE position.  He was also big enough to move inside and rush the passer but probably about 10lbs short of being a full time DT.  I agree that his stats were impacted by the some of the poor defenses he played on earlier in his career but I am not sure he would have produced that much more in a different scheme.  I wonder what he would have been if they had moved him inside early in his career but that kind of move would have impacted what he gave the team later in his career.  I think we tend to make too much of sacks in terms of his performance.  Graham was a dominant run defender.  He played hard every snap.  He was a leader on the team and example for younger players.  I think we undersell his legacy if we just look at some of his early struggles and production.  We did see Graham in his prime.  A cornerstone piece of the defense on 2 Super Bowl teams. He had one of the biggest defensive plays in the history of the franchise.  He was a key a contributor to a 3rd Super Bowl team and Championship.   He is an all-time great for the team.

I really like Goedert when he’s on the field but it seems like he misses half the season every year. If he leaves it will be sad but they probably are weighing his health along with everything else.

On reading the JP vs Lane who is better discussion (both excellent IMHO), it occurs to me that not many teams fans can debate which HoF Tackles, that played with each other for a good number of years and both into their mid 30s and longer without a noticeable drop off.  We can pick at the nuance, but its a nice problem to have.  And even that the Eagles then took an Aussie in the 7th round and effectively replaced the HoF LT with him.

For my money, JP is the greater physical specimen whose style of play meant you noticed him knocking doors down. Lane is more a blackhole at RT; things just disappear when they are in his vicinity. Both are worthy of being in the HoF alongside Kelce.

I think Lane is unquestionably better. The Eagles were able to win in 2017 despite JP going down. That more than likely doesn’t happen if Lane goes down instead.

JP will always get more respect because he was on the left side.

I can see why they would cut/trade him. 30 years old, often injured, one year left on his deal, save $10mil in cap space, probably not worth the $ he’s looking for, 4th option in this offense behind Barkley, Brown, and Smith.

However, he’s the perfect TE for this offense. When he plays, the offense is definitely better. I don’t see how they find a TE or pair of TEs to match his production.

Surprised they haven't re-signed Fred Johnson yet.

Who is the all time sack leader for the Eagles to ever wear #54 ?  No cheating

He’s definitely good enough to start on a few teams. I’m sure he’s weighing his options

So Phase 1 and 2 of Free Agency is done.  Looks like the Eagles targeted advancing young players (Steen, Hunt, Ojomo, Brown), preserving Comp Picks  and developing money for upcoming extensions.  Only true hole is at backup C.  What’s interesting is that the players most likely to stick, Ojulari and Jackson, come from the giants (who actually had a decent D last year).  Green is an intriguing acquisition.  Uche and Dillon have a chance to make the team unless a draft choice replaces them.

Is it just me or does the Twitter photo of DTR (who I targeted as the Eagles #3 QB a couple drafts ago) remind others of the SNL Buckwheat?  Good fit with a Hurts offense.  I know he hasn’t excelled in the NFL but I don’t think he ever had an OL or offensive fit like the Eagles. Frankly, I suspect in the long run McKee and DTR is greater than Pickett and McKee.

And a bit off topic, enjoyed the Big 12 tourney and looking forward to my Cougars winning in Wichita. Go Cougars

I’d guess trotter sr. Just simply cause he started for multiple years wearing 54, feels like Graham and trotter were two best players in the last 30 years to wear 54 and Graham is likely not the correct answer.

Any truth to the rumor that the Birds are hiring BG as trash talk coach?  That’s the one area where the team has really downgraded by the off season moves.

Don't disrespect this man. He wasn't known for sacks, but man I loved that one year they brought him in. Felt like they had a true LB.

Man, people are getting their man buns fluffed over some really obscure, meaningless topics this week.  It's amusing to read.  Just to stir it up, Jimmy Cliff is better than Bob Marley.

Nah, he ain't.

Prime JP is in discussion for GOAT at OT IMO….sadly, he hung on for about 6? years too long.  Maybe longer.  For better or worse, spending his career at RT makes Lane ‘harder’ to judge.  Honestly between the 2 you’re comparing apples to apples as far as who was better.  Who cares, it comes down to if you prefer golden or red delicious.

It’s really hard to fathom what other teams deal with considering we have had a quarter of a century of consistency at the position.  Tra and Runyan were by no means HOFrs, but they were near the top of their respective positions for a long time for us.  Then you sprinkle in some Todd Father and the transition to JP/Lane was pretty quickly.  Ya there was a few stinkers in there, but it’s crazy to think the stability we’ve had at the position.  It’s far from a stretch to assume the JP, Kelce and Lane will all be in the Hall someday.

Philadelphia Eagles On SI asked one current NFC personnel executive and a former exec what type of player the Eagles are getting in Ojulari.

"Talented kid we liked coming out. Consistency and injuries would be my biggest concerns. A lot of soft-tissue stuff so that’s gonna scare some people off,” the executive said. "He’s also stuggled in [run] support so I think most would look at him as a situational guy.

"For Philly, I don't necessarily get the fit because Vic [Fangio] likes more well-rounded [players] and he’s not setting the edge and can’t drop [as a flat defender.]”

The former personnel man sees more upside.

"I think he's really talented with the potential to reach another level if he improves on the little things with technique,” the second executive said. "He should fit really well. Vic loves edges who offer him the ability to be multiple within the same personnel group.”

An NFL source did confirm that Ojulari had more lucrative deals (as in plural) on the table than the one he got from the Eagles. None of them were for multiple years, however, so you're probably talking maybe $5 to $6M, numbers still far off where most projected Ojulari would be even on a short-term deal.
