Kurt Goveia?    Interesting.

That defense was the exciting whites before there was such a thing.

Mike Mamula, Andy Harman, Kurt Gouveia, Bill Romanowski, Mike Zordich.

Ray Rhodes built that team the way Josh Harris is building the current Redskins team. All kinds of old veterans were brought in.

You had William Fuller, Greg Jackson, Mike Zordich, Bill Romanowski, Kurt Gouveia, Danny Stubbs on defense. On offense he brought in Guy McIntyre, Raleigh McKenzie, Ed West. Such an old team.

Philadelphia Eagles On SI asked one current NFC personnel executive and a former exec what type of player the Eagles are getting in Ojulari.

"Talented kid we liked coming out. Consistency and injuries would be my biggest concerns. A lot of soft-tissue stuff so that’s gonna scare some people off,” the executive said. "He’s also stuggled in [run] support so I think most would look at him as a situational guy.

"For Philly, I don't necessarily get the fit because Vic [Fangio] likes more well-rounded [players] and he’s not setting the edge and can’t drop [as a flat defender.]”

The former personnel man sees more upside.

"I think he's really talented with the potential to reach another level if he improves on the little things with technique,” the second executive said. "He should fit really well. Vic loves edges who offer him the ability to be multiple within the same personnel group.”

An NFL source did confirm that Ojulari had more lucrative deals (as in plural) on the table than the one he got from the Eagles. None of them were for multiple years, however, so you're probably talking maybe $5 to $6M, numbers still far off where most projected Ojulari would be even on a short-term deal.

I guess we think that being in a winning environment with his old college buddies will revitalise his work ethic and he'll kick on into someone we want to keep or at worst he'll be a relatively cheap high floor rotational edge.

I like the pick up, he was one I thought we should look at.

Who is left in FA at tackle you would have interest in?

Cam Robinson - probably to expensive

Jedrick Wills - kind of injury prone but makes sense as still young and wouldn't be tasked with playing a full season.  Philly is the place for reclamation

Tyron Smith - Maybe chases a ring?

Trent Brown

Who am I missing (other than draft) ?

BTW... if you are a Gen X-er, Phineas and Ferb is a low key excellent trip down memory lane with the number of references to childhood experiences!

Willis was picked right before Becton in the 2020 draft.

He's also had knee issues the last 2 years. I guess that's why he isn't signed, because he was starting left tackle his first 3 years and the Browns picked up his 5th year.

That's ridiculous, the idea of hiring someone solely to teach trash talk. These guys go from the best in HS to the best in college and have seen and heard it all. Plenty of guys trash talk, just not all of them get the mic'd up attention. We've seen on various mic'd up videos of other guys trash talking: Q, Baun, Carter, Nolan Smith, Hunt.

The head coach trash talks too.

BG doing a similar role as Dawkins did previously as a type of mentor to young players would make sense though.

You're like Drax the Destroyer.  Nothing goes over your head as your reflexes are too fast and you would catch it.

They must have faith in Kinnard.  So "developmental OT” would be a better description of the Draft need.  Charles Grant from William and Mary is my preference.

He's the key to the repeat!  :flex:.  Going for NUMBER FOUR!!!

Barkley is a bit of a talker too.   And Mailata is actually a beast.

The context was losing BG (and others concerned about losing CJGJ) for the defense. Offense also has Dickerson, Mailata, AJ Brown.

Fred Johnson moves on

One of the most damning moments of Wills’ tenure came in November 2024, when he chose to sit out a critical divisional matchup against the Baltimore Ravens despite suffering only a minor knee injury. The Browns lost that game, and Wills later admitted "I made a business decision not to play."

Could you imagine a player in Philly saying this?  Other reports on Wills question his character...as in, his effort, mentality, etc.  If true, no way he's on Howie's radar.

Love Charles grant. Also on kinnard, lane had high praise for him

Yup... and it made the team decent for 2 years... and then they imploded, because they drafted the worst of the worst.

During 1991-1997 they brought in:
Round 1: Antone Davis, Lester Holmes, Leonard Renfro, Bernard Williams, Mike Mamula, Jermaine Mayberry, and Jon Harris
Round 2: Jesse Campbell, Siran Stacy, Victor Bailey, Bruce Walker, Charlie Garner, Bobby Taylor, Jason Dunn, Brian Dawkins, James Darling
Round 3: Rob Selby, Tommy Jeter, Derrick Frazier, Joe Panos, Eric Zomalt, Greg Jefferson, Chris Jones, Bobby Hoying, Duce Staley

In the first 3 rounds over 7 years... with 25 picks... they got 1 HoF Safety... a couple really good players and a pile of stiffs.  Such a dearth of talent as they were transitioning away from the Buddy Ryan teams into the Andy Reid era starting in 1999.  1998 was actually a pretty nice draft, all things considered.  Tra Thomas and Jeremiah Trotter, and even brought in Ike Reese and those 3 really helped change the culture.

Yeah, but if he's going to coach it... why would he limit himself to just the defense.

That said, I don't see that as a real expectation for his role if he stays around the team.

Idk but we did have Jamon brown adjusting his glove mid-play and bringing a "hoebag” into the team hotel lol

You would think that Howie has learned something since then.   At least, you would hope so.

For me it’s

1. Early 90’s Reggie

2. 2013 Jason Peters(there have been 9 2000 yard backs, but I’ve never seen a 330lb man do the stuff he could do)

3. 2024 Saquon

4. 2018 Fletcher Cox

5. 2004 TO

I saw 2006 Shawn Andrews do those things at 340 pounds.

Also good. Really liking these Lions proposals.

Frankly, I liked that the Eagles submitted it and added the fact that it’s gonna be 15 minutes in overtime and not the 10 mins we have now.

Simmons won't be going back to the Falcons it appears.

I argued this before the lions/vikings game. I had a feeling some team was going to submit it for rule change at some point in time. I don’t think it will pass but i wouldn’t be surprised if it’s submitted again sometime down the road with some more added changes to it
