No. I think he gets Hargrave money. 3 years/63M or 4 years 84M. Howie will pay that to a young up and upcoming DT. If it's close with another bidder, he stays here. And to play with Jalen Carter is a no brainer. His life will be much easier here than anywhere else. His snaps will go up next year and he gets 8-10 sacks being singled teamed mostly, justifying that contract. I was wavering with him til his dominant Superbowl performance. That did it!

I think Williams and Sweat are gone.  Can't afford them. So is BG (although may be a coach right away).  We will keep Hunt, Smith and Ojomo and hope to move or retool Huff.

We keep Baun.  It would be idiotic to let him go.

Slay is too complicated for my brain.  If there is a way to make it affordable he stays, if not he is gone.  Rodgers and CJGJ get resigned.

I see no reason to not re-sign Gainwell for a friendly deal (I just don't major interest in him out there).

Becton I want to keep.

We are gonna need lots of Howie juju or some magic beans or something.

I didn't even think about BG being a coach. Figured he'd just walk into the sunset and enjoy retirement like Cox did. He's definitely got that leadership role that would be good for a coach

😂 Good point.  I’ll take that lightning in a bottle every day of the week.

There’s a way higher chance of Kelce retiring than what some people believe. When he realized the game was gonna be a dogfight, he wasn’t the same guy. Too many media/TV opportunities. Football grind wouldn’t seem worth it at that point at age 35.

True. It worked out this year, but was a colossal failure the year before. Hurts going thru a new coordinator almost every single year of his career is wild. Counting from his college days as well.

At this point it seems evident that the Eagles know who they are. Whoever the next OC is will have to be a fit. I expect that Sirianni, Stoutland, and Hurts will all have a voice in the choice.

I think the offense minus Hurts can thrive in any system. Hurts is a good player, but he IS scheme dependent.

He's been in a different scheme each year as a starter and the results have been pretty consistent.  Perhaps the schemes are more dependent upon him.

Maybe he just doesn't want to pay another $3 million for a SB suite.

KC's D tackles well and that's led by Bolton and Reid. Both are free agents.

Every DT not named Jones is a free agent. Wharton had 6 1/2 sacks and 11 QB hits. He's getting paid.

They may lose up to 7 of their top 17 contributors on defense.

Add in that they need a minimum of 3 really good OL and a Kelce replacement either way without cap space and picking late in each round, and pile on that they won with smoke and mirrors before losing 3 playoff games in the same year  (thanks, refs!) and this is textbook SB hangover.  Andy, Jones, Karlaftis, and Mahomes might mean 10-7 wildcard hangover but they are in some trouble. They also need a backup QB and a RB option besides pray Pacheco becomes healthy and great behind that O-line.

They can convert some salary and roster bonus to signing bonus to free up about 25-30 million but doing that to Mahomes puts him in the 70-80m cap hit range every year in the future. Doing it to Jones pushes him towards future 45-50m years.

Huff will never be worth his contract. But have to use him correctly, as strictly a pass rush specialist like on the Jets and just forget about him stopping the run. He can gobble up at least 20 snaps a game. Has a prohibitive dead cap hit this year, so you build him up this year and trade him next offseason for a 3rd or 4th and all is well. Showed a glimmer, for a couple games with a bad wrist. Remember how Nolan Smith looked out of place last year, but wasn't really  healthy and turned the corner in one offseason. Has a clean slate next year and they have a spot for him. I'm keeping him for now.

I just don’t know if he is a Vic type player. He seems to value an all around game over highly specialised one dimensional players

And each coordinator tailors their offense for him. Which is how it should be, imo.

The way I look it. If the collateral damage is Sweat, Slay and Becton, then I'm still okay signing Williams and Baun.  Defense wins Superbowls and we need to keep that great depth in the trenches for 2 more years. Revisit Davis & Ojomo then...after we finish with our Three-peat. 😄 Though, I think Howie does have the Magic beans and signs both Becton & Williams. It will kill his soul to let go of 2 young studs in the trenches entering their prime.

Could be wrong, but it feels like a real chance that KC could take a step back for a couple of years.

Although, Allen and Jackson probably won't be able to stop pissing down their legs against Mahomes.

Maybe it's Burrow time for a bit in the AFC.

This is a good point. Hurts was making much better decisions pre-snap, and that in turn allowed him to be more decisive post snap.

We all see the **** in Hurts’ armor: it’s when he has to go deep into his reads after the snap. He tends to hold the ball a lot as it is, but when he isn’t clear where the ball should go, that’s when he starts taking bad snaps.

By diagnosing the defense correctly before the snap he was able to throw those go routes quickly before pressure could get to him, and even under pressure, he could ignore it because he knew where the ball was going.

100%.  When he knows what he wants to do and just lets it go, he is a force.  Brady and Warner both acknowledged it, too fwiw.

It really feels like their window is shutting. But they will still be in the mix with a decent off-season. But no where near the talent of the past.

The one benefit to the Slay situation is that no one else is paying him big money this year.  He should be able to work something out to take about  1/3 of that option bonus and add in incentives. The idea of running it back with endorsements and playoff money in a perfect situation probably helps.

I admit I'm not an expert on how these option bonuses work and how they can be restructured.

Kelce looked like he was done.  I would not be shocked if he retired.

They need WRs and O line.

Their D is pretty (very) solid and played well this year.  Jones is a bit older than I remembered as @jojodancerreminded me yesterday.  Could be some falloff for him but seems like marginal or of course potential injury as he hits another bday.

I think they have a far rougher time this coming season because the formula for how to D them up is there.  Not so easy to contain AND press with four, plus you have to have high quality coverage guys.  But teams can try and implement and get some results.

Between him and Hopkins in that game, they looked like the NFL Seniors Tour.  Must be age 50 and above, can’t bend over, and can’t make any adjustments to the ball.

They looked like a cooked Alshon Jefferey and Brent Celek.

Will be truly interesting to see what they do.  Sure wouldn't mind a train wreck for them even though really doesn't matter much to the Eagles until SB60.

I want to play the Bills, if I could choose who to take on for the next one.  Or the worst possible AFC team that gets there on luck, only to come out wrapped in duct tape for the SB. I do not care about it being a competitive matchup. I am fine with a beat down. I just want the back to back. Such a rare chance.

Ugh. Cooked Alshon was the worst. So grateful for what he did during the Superbowl season and that game though.

Wonder when the Eagles will actually start interviewing people for the OC opening.

Howie’s big star free agent rushed for 2,000 yards and had one of the greatest seasons in NFL history.

Huff wasn’t a star and didn’t get paid like one relative to his position.

Huff was a signing based on potential to do more than he did in NY. Last year Huff had 10 sacks, this year 2.5.

Compare to Josh Sweat. His career season high is 11 in 2022. Last year he had 6.5 sacks, this year 8. Huff was also one piece of many other pieces added to contribute to the overall defense. The rest of them worked out.
