So is Asante Samuel Jr. a bad teammate, asking for too much money, an injury waiting to happen or just a bit overrated? Has to be a reason that a 25 year old CB who should be in the prime of his career is still on the streets.  You'd have to imagine at some point either teams cave to his demands, or he brings down his cost and the value to sign him is far greater than the risks.

At this point, I'd be all for a 1-year contract to see what he can do.

I think it probably has to do with his shoulder injury.  Apparently he termed it as a "lifelong issue" so I'm sure teams are hesitant when it comes to that plus whatever type of contract/money he's looking for.  Teams are waiting him out.

For me Josaiah Stewart is a round 1 target. Even a trade up.

I find it hard to believe he's not a 1st rounder just due to size.  I wonder if there's not more that has tanked his stock in the last month or 2.

I think you mean Shemar Stewart, not Josaiah.

Yeah, but when? My point is that he’ll never get to the fight year option.

Ill defer to Howie on whether or not that 5th helps manage the cap shenanigans. Guess it really depends on his health

I missed him at Harvard, but he looks nimble for guy reported to be 6’2” 320.

We might need to take these charts with a grain salt in terms of the small school guys. Thor gets 3 years of Ivy League domination (the heading says ‘career’), as does David Walker at Central Arkansas (maybe 2024 only, but same idea).

That is true about the competition. But what first got me to notice him was, I think bench press numbers. Or some crazy feat of strength. And remembering how Andy Reid always used to go for the big bench press guys at DT I decided I would go check this guy out. And he looked surprisingly good. Obviously, not just strength when you watch him. If he is a late round pick, I want him.

I’d give this straight As…

I get the appeal of Savaiinaea as an OG. But is he a nimble giant Becton type of OG, or is he more of a dominating phone booth guy? I havent watched closely.

I wonder about that. Take Carter, for example. Does anyone seriously think the Eagles will exercise the fifth year option with him? I sure don’t.

We don't use it. Makes people unhappy and is the sign of a Franchise run poorly.

Many others do though. Look at Dallas iE, they use it all the time. It's not working but they do.

You guys are missing stuff. Even when extended, Eagles pick up the 5th year option to extend them off of it. Like Devonta Smith. They picked up his option and extended him off of it which gives cap benefits. They will do the same with Carter. Barnett was the last guy they picked up the option and made him play that option only year. The biggest reason there’s a gap between Barnett and Smith is they traded out of the first round one year then drafted Dillard and Reagor.

Ok, used that way it may save some money without bad blood. Hard to quantify though how much it actually does save.

I’d try him at tackle first, he has active feet and plays under control, seems to have the right skillset to shine in a ZBS. If Stout can teach him the early kick slide cheat, he’ll be a tough guy to go around or through (I haven’t really seen him open up like that, so that’s a big assumption).

Ok...was wondering because Josaiah hasn't even made Daniel Jeremiah's top 50, much less being a "trade up" kinda guy.  And size-wise, Shemar has the bigger size vs. Josaiah, who borders on average<>undersized.  Just sounded like you were talking about Shemar, who IS big and DJ has him ranked at 27th overall.

But it's all good.  If Josaiah is your guy, that's cool.  I'm in the beginning phases of my prospect research and don't have an educated opinion on either of the Stewarts at this point.

I’d say it doesn’t even necessarily save money but it is an effective tool in managing cap.

Also they woefully undervalue future picks. A future pick dropping down a round in worth is the craziest thing to me.

I would trade every 3rd round pick for a Future Second round pick, and every second round pick for a future first round pick. 2025 draft would suck, but by 2027 I’d have 3 first round picks every year until the end of time

Hatchetwound on ES once suggested the R-words fully tank the one year.  In addition to no FA signings to beef up their cap space, trade every pick that year for future picks, and keep rolling them over year after year so they could have 6 years with 2+ first rounders.

Classic Hatchetwound.

Youtube can make you fall in love with Shemar. But he just scares me too much as a looks like Tarzan plays like Jane kind of guy. He has prototype size and speed, but has no production. You can explain away lack of pass rush production by the defensive scheme sometimes but then, those guys better be playing the run. Shemar Stewart does neither.

Josaiah- size was not an issue in the big 10. Ridiculous speed but also wins with power. Hes by far the better football player at this point in time.

That’s a very different thing than using the option as a club. What Howie is doing is cap management. I have absolutely no doubt but that the extension is agreed upon before any shenanigans with the fifth year option and with the full consent of the player and his agent.

What do you think of Donovan Ezeiruaku and Mykel Williams?  Based on what I've read about both of those guys...so far...they seem like potential Eagles targets.  Of course it would help to know if Fangio wants at least one Edge player that is bigger-bodied or if he wants all of his Edges to be able to drop into coverage.

If we were legitimately in on Garrett wouldn't we have to be in on Travon Walker?  I know it's the you can't pay everyone argument but think I'd much rather pay Travon Walker over Reed Blankenship

I think EZ is a prime target for us if we stay at 32. One of the best options where talent meets need.

Have done very little draft homework this year and havent paid attention to Mykel. Ive assumed he was going earlier than our pick.

I have also been of the assumption that we will draft 2 edges. One will be more of a DE type like Graham, and the other will be the Edge/OLB type.

FWIW, they apparently brought in Elijah Roberts for a top 30 visit.  He's certainly got some size to him...6' 4" 285 lbs, listed as an Edge player.

With the amount of depth at DE I kind of think we will address another position at 32.  I also prefer a heavier/stronger DE (Sawyer, Walker, etc.) than sheer speed.

Sheer speed, for sure.  But teaching speed to power like has happened with Nolan Smith is what is most valuable.

Geography is definitely important. One thing I think about on occasion is if I would have been an Eagles fan if my family had stayed in Texas, which is where I lived as an infant. We soon moved back up to Pennsylvania where my parents were from and then shortly thereafter to New Jersey. But if I had grown up down there -- and we were much closer to Houston than to Dallas -- would I have naturally become an Oilers fan? They would have been the local team. How would I have reacted to all the Cowboys mania that would have been prevalent at that time? I'm sure there would have been a ton of Cowboys fans in school. Even if I had followed my father's lead and rooted for the Eagles, I suspect it would have been pretty difficult to sustain being that far away in an era where there wasn't much out of market news coverage going on.

The adoration for the cowpads in the Houston area in the late sixties until those bandwagon cowpads fans would buy Luv Ya Blue apparel but that quickly faded away with some real lean years for the Oilers and the bandwagon cowpad fans were all over the place.  But it has always been the mark of a true fan that we stick with our team in lean times.

True Oilers fans hate the cowpads more than anything except Bud Adams and his daughter.  They are now Texans fans and deplore the Titans.   It is criminal that the Adams family controls the Oilers throwbacks and trolls the Texans with it.  In return, my UH Cougars have an alternative uniform that looks like Oilers colors. (Only intellectual property case I ever saw where colors were protected by the court was Jimmy Choo’s red sole shoes.)

He is very nimble for his size

I see Drew Kendall as a target for us in this years draft especially with Jurgens back issues.
