In my world you absolutely could have been an Oilers fan regardless.  One NFC team and one AFC team.

I don’t really have an AFC team but because they play on local TV, I see a fair amount of Ravens games. I love good football and the Ravens tend to play good football under Jon’s watch and Ozzie was so damn good at evaluating players (that even impacted the Eagles FO for a time as we were hoping he passed that on to his disciples that Howie hired.)  But it also allows me to discuss that team with my colleagues and neighbors that are Ravens fans. (And DIL to be and her Dad, who follow that team.).

So is Asante Samuel Jr. a bad teammate, asking for too much money, an injury waiting to happen or just a bit overrated? Has to be a reason that a 25 year old CB who should be in the prime of his career is still on the streets.  You'd have to imagine at some point either teams cave to his demands, or he brings down his cost and the value to sign him is far greater than the risks.

At this point, I'd be all for a 1-year contract to see what he can do.

Got all the worse parts of his father (size, tackling although faster) but what made his Dad succeed, film work that allowed him to anticipate moves by the opposition doesn’t seem to have been passed down.

That’s a very different thing than using the option as a club. What Howie is doing is cap management. I have absolutely no doubt but that the extension is agreed upon before any shenanigans with the fifth year option and with the full consent of the player and his agent.

If you mean using the 5th year option as a pseudo franchise tag, than I agree that won't happen with Carter outside of something drastically happening between now and then.

It's semantics but the option will be exercised but then refigured with the new extension. That in itself still holds weight when it comes to first round draft picks and the 5th year option that comes with it. Other teams use the general strategy as well. With the Bengals it gave them some extra time to negotiate with Chase. They didn't do a good job with it but it gave them a little bit of leverage. The Texans were much smarter about by exercising it as part of the Stingley extension.

The distinction of the option being exercised or not comes into play more with guys with unclear futures. With Jordan Davis, I can see all 3 scenarios in play. Extend without exercising the option, extend with using the option or making him play out the option year. With Dotson I don't see them picking up the option at all even if they sign him to a small extension.

Big win for the Raptors last night.  We now are 2 games up on them for ever elusive 6th pick.  They also play the Nets (the team tied with us) two times over the last 10 games of the year.  Unfortunately we have Washington twice and Toronto over the last 10 games.  Gonna have to pull all the tanking tricks

After over a month waiting, I finally got something in the mail I had been waiting for.

Mike Green had a 6.85 3 cone. Unless he’s a psychopath off the field (he could be!), he’s a top 15 pick.

SA allegations in both high school and college

:offtopic: Kind of.

As Penn State contemplates shuttering some of its satellite campuses, I’d like to see the state acquire those campuses and convert them to Junior Colleges.  I grew up in Texas where they have a number of junior colleges.  One in west Texas partnered with the wind energy corporations and are turning out wind turbine mechanics, currently the highest projected "blue collar” job in the U.S., for example.  No real need for a four year degree.  My folks were born in the 1920s/early 30s and many of their teachers went to two year "teachers college”, for example.

Okay, so where does the "kind of” fit into this?  Well junior colleges play sports and they were a great place for underachieving athletes to hone their skills and get their grades up.  In contrast HACC (Harrisburg Area Community College) was in a mall as opposed to a campus. (Texas had both junior colleges and community colleges, like HCC - Houston Community College.). Junior colleges were more like a college and play sports. They have more of a college feel at campuses than community colleges, which tend towards part time students.  So better academics and also developmental for athletes, which could be a pipeline for other PA campuses.   Just look at San Jacinto, for example.  It produced a bunch of professional athletes.

He has two sexual assault allegations. If not for that he would've been high on my list.

So did Parsons. You never know how much is going to affect the stock, or not.

Yep. Could go top 15, could go day 3 or worse. Just saying there’s a big reason he could fall.

A good edge is gonna be there for the Eagles. Or for a slight move up. Hope they pounce. Either for that or Nolen.

Mike Green feels like a Cowboys draft pick.

I'm leaning towards Vic wanting some bigger style players to add to the mix. The Harmons, Stewarts, Iveys, Williams, Sawyers, Swinsons, Jones etc etc of the world.

I trust in Big Dom to perform the appropriate due diligence on players.

I do as well, so it's very possible he's stricken from our board and I'll be fine with that if big Dom says so.

With all due respect to McMullen, with Jurgens having had back surgery, and with Zabel projecting at C (biggest hole on the team at this point), I think those that pick Zabel are projecting him as an all around player that could play across the line.

Per BGN, latest Top 30 additions

  • SMU EDGE Elijah Roberts
  • Kentucky CB Maxwell Hairston

He won't say so, not publicly.

Hairston is interesting. Seems like he would be a round 2 CB pick which might be earlier than some would expect having Ringo here.

For me Josaiah Stewart is a round 1 target. Even a trade up.

I find it hard to believe he's not a 1st rounder just due to size.  I wonder if there's not more that has tanked his stock in the last month or 2.

@just relax what are your thoughts?

California has the same system. Lots of Junior Colleges, quite a few CSUs (California State Universities) and ten UCs (University of California)
