I like physical copies, personally. That way you can rip them to a plex server for cloud use but can still use them with a disk player if your internet goes out.

Disk player?  What is that?

Not sure how accurate this is since I didn't see any details anywhere else, but Spotrac has Fred Johnsons deal with the Jaguars as 1 year, $1,337,500 and a little over $1M guaranteed.

I haven't seen any terms for Kendall Lamm but it's a little surprising the Eagles passed on that cheap of a contract for Fred Johnson and replaced him with a 33 year old guy who just had back surgery.

Hypothetical sort of question...

Suppose you were to donate money to a website and your donation qualified you for a 'gift'. Which 'gift' would be better for you to receive. A series of Blu-Ray discs contained in disc cases,  or a large capacity thumb drive that contained all of the contents of the Blu Ray discs?

:Eagle_smiley: :LII:

Unless you are really into all the extras that you get on a Blu-ray disk, you have to go with the thumb drive. Just make sure that when you receive it, you make a cloud backup of it.

I transferred all my physical disks into virtual copies, moved them to a couple of NAS drives, and just stream them wherever and whenever I want to. No need to worry about finding the right disk, hoping that it isn't scratched, or worrying about being home to watch anything.

Then I sold all those disks for pennies on a dollar.

If that's the deal Fred Johnson got, I'm scratching my head. I'm giving Howie the benefit of the doubt on the Oren Burks to the Bengals, but at some point, it's fair to question the thought process. Fred Johnson was a great locker room guy and served his role admirably. Lamm might be OK, but again, no one knows about the back. We'll see.

An upload to a cloud drive of the files.  Eliminates the need to handle media.  My ability to do so evaporated about five years ago.

Let's suppose the Blu Ray discs combine for a total of close to 1TB of data. Uploading 1TB (or close to it), would take a long time. Files can be downsized, but quality can be lost in the process.

I actually don't even own an operational disc player anymore (other than PC/laptop drives). I do have 48 TB of storage (in a two RAID 5's so 36 TB) though, so everything that I watch is either streaming or from my home server.

I have three raids - one for movies, one for tv and the other for misc. I think the total is around 40 TB between all three of them. Moving to this has been a game changer for me.

I also use Plex for most things, but I think I am going to move away from it now that they are looking to charge a monthly fee for remote access. I have been testing out Emby for a little bit here. I am hoping that will be a suitable replacement.

I see a red light under one of my drives and I panic lol.

What I'm reading is that you have a 40TB porn collection. Rookie numbers.

I don’t even have a single pc/laptop drive other than the hard drive that came with the MacBook laptop.  With over 110,000 images currently in the Photos app, that 2 TB hard drive ran out of space several years ago and all the images reside in the cloud with only a stub (pointer) actually on the laptop.

The no trade clause is what's causing you to not believe Dallas getting the 2nd overall pick for Dak?

I hear you, but yes…this is Cleveland.  Think of the other deals they have made

This year might be a new low on the treatment of Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers. These guys are not good anymore. Their play showed it. The constant hype and coverage is ludicrous

Give me a few minutes to find my dictionary and I'll look it up.

Sixers already down by 10 to the Wizards.

I vote discs as well... hypothetically already have a "gift" from 2017 and it was fantastic.

It's a box checking draft that hits the top 3 positions of need as many of us fans see things.  But, with all the OL they are bringing in for pre-draft visits I don't believe they wait until pick 165 for OL.

Howie has avoided reaching for need.  BPA although the top 3 may well be BPA.

They have 30 visits and we heard about 4 OL. They might have been first because of scheduling but in itself the number isn’t high yet

Eagles don’t broadcast their top 30 or even their "local”, agents do. Given that the top 30 did not all leak the last couple of years, I suspect some agents don’t tell everything because the Eagles are an attractive place to land.

I've read that physical media is making a bit of a comeback. The problem with having content you paid for on somebody else's computer is that if something happens to that somebody else's computer that you have zero control over, wave bye bye to your investment. I had a minor brush with this sort of thing. I was using an email service that was supposed to be well regarded for its privacy. I think this was during the Edward Snowden affair and some Feds wanted the operator of this email service to decrypt certain users accounts even though he had promised not to do so as part of the service agreement. The sysadmin knew such a letter was on its way but had not yet received it. He wiped the servers securely, everybody's emails were irretrievably gone with no notice. I use Thunderbird so had a copy of the emails from that service. If I hadn't had that I'd have been in a bit of a pickle. This tale is to illustrate why having physical copies can be a good thing.

The new owners (15% share?) need to start making their $ back from this cash cow.

The Eagles also have some big contracts coming up - Carter, Q, DeJean among them. Howie may be hoarding his pennies a little in preparation.
