I'll agree to disagree on that and we can move past this.  We'll know in a few weeks one way or the other.

Wonder if this means Mike Green is off their board, although those are just accusations.

But I do think this is a little shortsighted. 10 years ago is like the age of 11 for some of these prospects. You telling me someone who slapped a girl at 11 is off limits when they're 21? C'mon.

Don't know if Howie was asked a question about it but I would have said no comment. We're about to give huge money to Carter and he's got some legal issues still open from that car accident

I believe the 10 years ago thing is hyperbole to make his point, and likely focused more on veterans who would be available... like Tyreek Hill, rather than college kids.  But, I think his point is, the timing of it isn't really important, the offense is the important thing.   Good for them for having scruples and putting what is right ahead of what is convenient.

FWIW Goodell wanted to ban the Patriots in 2007. They won 3 more titles and went to 6 more SBs.

He can cry all he wants, 8 more owners are not going to listen to him. He's little more than their servant. His 10m a year is nothing to them.

He can cry about the tush push for the next 10 years 🎻

Roger makes a lot more than $10 million/season.

Howie said some within the organization were against trading CJGJ and fought Howie on it. That was interesting.

And I agree, I'm against it too. That remains the one move they made this offseason that bothers me. They opened up a big need that they will now have to fill. And probably with a lesser player.

Don't obfuscate the discussion by bringing in Fortune 500 businesses.   Let's focus on the 29 DTs ahead of this projected salary and let me know what their snap counts and production are in comparison to Davis.   Analogies fall apart, and only work when you are comparing like things.  Fortune 500 doesn't equate to this discussion because this isn't a Profit-Loss table.  This isn't a "Fortune 500 business", this is an NFL Franchise working within the structures of a hard salary cap.  Please stick to that context if you are willing to answer the question.  Any other discussion point is tangential, at best, to the issue and not helpful or useful for determining Davis' actual value ON THE FIELD.

Closest to Davis' projected salary and some stats about them over the last three years:
Grady Jarrett - snaps: 76%, 62%, 67% - sacks: 6, 1.5, 2.5 - TFL: 12, 2, 9
Grover Stewart - snaps: 68%, 60%, 60% - sacks: 4, 0.5, 3.5 - TFL: 9, 5, 10
DJ Jones - snaps: 55%, 54%, 40% - sacks: 2, 2, 1 - TFL: 3, 5, 1

Davis - snaps: 26%, 45%, 37% - sacks: 0, 2.5, 1 - TFL: 1, 2, 3

I'd rank him as 4 out of 4 on this list.  And I don't see it as close.  DJ Jones is his closest comp of these 3.  But,

An argument can be made that Davis' contributions will show up more in the LB stats than his personal stats... but until this past year... that wasn't strong in his favor either.   And given that this team was able to pick up Linval Joseph two years ago for just about $2M... and he gave them more than Davis, I don't see the need to spend big money on him.  And I'd qualify $12.9M for him for a single year as 'big money' compared to his contribution.

This just seems like dying on a strange hill bc you didnt like the trade/prospect at the time. Irrational

Good teams are usually the ones who get penalized so I suppose that is some form of respect?

Deflate gate would have never been a thing if it was a perennial crappy team who got called out in week 10.

Jonah Lomu was an absolute beast; its a shame his health issues curtailed his career and led to his early death. I'd love to have seen someone like Ray Lewis or Rodney Harrison tackle that without a helmet and pads on. Rob Andrew shows what happens when you wave your arms.

They are using the ignorance to push the idea that it is a rugby play, and they don't care that its not accurate.  But, the bigger ignorance is that the current iteration of rugby and football have the same roots... so there's no reason to ban something in the current iteration of football because it approximates rugby too much.  There's a ton of things that approximate rugby, most obvious the craziness that can ensue on a last second, last ditch lateral play like the Stanford band play between Cal and Stanford.

After the initial forward pass... is this rugby or football?

(Btw... cut the guy that's just squatting a mid field throughout the play!)

Granted, there's no blocking in rugby... but there's a lot of 'rugby' in these types of plays.

Totally, and that is why myself (and others) are posting what we are. Outsiders will be looking at this board for our thoughts and realising they are being lied to about the play. Very important to differentiate the fact from the fiction.

Mike says what I feel and Lurie needs to fight on this. Too often is this franchise disrespected when the Cowboys never get other adversity thrown their way. You deserve respect and fight for it.

PFT live did a 50 minute section on this today and credit to them, were open about what they thought was the genesis of the whining.  I'd recommend fining it because they highlight numerous issues with this and the longer term implications of changing rules for "reasons".

And they're probably doing the same at TE and RG is a downgrade as well.

Accusations? He did it in high school + college. Separate incidents. He got kicked off his own college team after their investigation.

For DT who have we brought in for top 30 so far?  Is it just Shemar Turner and Elijah Roberts?  Looks like we're looking for those Milton Williams type clones (6 foot 3ish around 280-290 pounds).

If so, Norman-Lott would be a great pick.

Actually, I liked the pick at the time.   He hasn't lived up to his potential and isn't worth the $12.9M of the 5th year option in my eyes.  Like I said, we can agree to disagree.   I'm moving on.

Yes. Anyone who hasn't been convicted in the courts of said allegation is the accused.

Would be a solid RD3 or RD4 choice.

While he predominantly projects at Guard, think he has some versatility and the size to play Tackle too.

Pretty raw, but I think he would thrive after a year in Stoutland U.

Seems like it would be awfully easy to flip this and say people who loved the pick are dying on the hill.

I say that as someone who loved the Davis but agrees with you about him being a disappointment and not worth the $13M cap hold.

This discussion is a waste of time.  Since you are a teacher and you either grade essays/theses/dissertations, or your peers do, the equivalent simple statistics to snaps, like spelling errors, grammatical errors, page length, etc. determine only a small proportion of the final grade you give the essay/thesis/dissertation.  You read the work like Fangio views film. You also read the work based on how it fits within the trajectory of the course.  You are trying to reduce to a science what is an art.  And you and I look at that art very differently.  I see the top rated defense in the NFL and you see  one individual player.  I see a cohesive whole, of which Davis is a part.  You see Davis in isolation.  I see the complexity of more is more, while you appear to aspire to the simplicity of less is more.  That is a recurring theme of our historical differences of opinion and they theme will continue into the future.

What is also clear is that what either of us think/believe is inconsequential and irrelevant.  Given that, there appears to be no sane reason to continue this immovable object vs. irresistible force dialogue.  It’s no doubt boring for the rest of the Blog to read.
