Val was still breathing at the time of that post.

Maybe he wasn't though, and the universe was telling us something.

The issue with Milton Williams, and the reason to let someone else overpay him, is that it seems highly possible/likely that his success is due to playing next to Jalen Carter. And the best evidence o

Seems like it would be awfully easy to flip this and say people who loved the pick are dying on the hill.

I say that as someone who loved the Davis but agrees with you about him being a disappointment and not worth the $13M cap hold.

🤷‍♂️

This discussion is a waste of time.  Since you are a teacher and you either grade essays/theses/dissertations, or your peers do, the equivalent simple statistics to snaps, like spelling errors, grammatical errors, page length, etc. determine only a small proportion of the final grade you give the essay/thesis/dissertation.  You read the work like Fangio views film. You also read the work based on how it fits within the trajectory of the course.  You are trying to reduce to a science what is an art.  And you and I look at that art very differently.  I see the top rated defense in the NFL and you see  one individual player.  I see a cohesive whole, of which Davis is a part.  You see Davis in isolation.  I see the complexity of more is more, while you appear to aspire to the simplicity of less is more.  That is a recurring theme of our historical differences of opinion and they theme will continue into the future.

What is also clear is that what either of us think/believe is inconsequential and irrelevant.  Given that, there appears to be no sane reason to continue this immovable object vs. irresistible force dialogue.  It’s no doubt boring for the rest of the Blog to read.

You can't pay everyone... which is why Milton Williams, Darius Slay, Josh Sweat and CJGJ are all gone now.  That's 4 significant pieces of that whole.  BUT, the team has to assign value to each individual player and figure out how each one fits into the scheme as a whole.  And they decided that they cost more than the value to keep them.  So they are gone.  We are having the same discussion about Davis now.  I don't see Davis in isolation.  I see the role Davis plays in the whole and think that they can find someone else to fill it at a lower price than $12.9M.   But, sure let's move on.

Probably should’ve done that like months ago

Lost in all the talk about young players to extend, where would Ojomo rank? I had completely forgotten about him as a candidate next year. I’m embarrassed to admit that an ESP tweet did it.

Why do that? Wait as long as possible so the recovery can linger in to the off-season, impact his ability to get in real shape for next year and make his trade value that much less.

That depends on what he shows this upcoming season in a larger role.

PFT live did a 50 minute section on this today and credit to them, were open about what they thought was the genesis of the whining.  I'd recommend fining it because they highlight numerous issues with this and the longer term implications of changing rules for "reasons".

Sounds like something that would be good to add to the EMB YouTube channel .

What he does in Year 3 will have a huge impact on this discussion, and they may not be able to afford him.  We'll see how he does with a larger role.  Then we can come back to this question.

In theory it doesn't make much sense Offense gets the benefit of forward progress but can still be pushed further meanwhile defense get nothing and are forced to hold the offense in place until the Refs finally blow a whistle which could take forever. So I'm fine with banning all pushing.

There's a lot of ways they could have spun banning the tush push but they went with the low hanging fruit of player safety and unaesthetically pleasing, both which make absolutely no sense.

Yes, the only argument that holds water is that any pushing/pulling of the ball carrier is an unfair advantage for the offense. This is why the rule against it was made originally back in the olden days and why it is still in effect at the HS level. In the stampede to help offenses and increase scoring in the early 2000s they changed the rules - now the eagles have come home to roost by perfecting the shove. All other arguments are BS, and the push back by the league is absolutely sour grapes.

I’m an eagles fan and at the present the shove is novel… but I’m not looking forward to a sizable minority of the league also becoming very good at it. Kind of like the dissatisfaction I have with the NBA and 3pt shooting…

We have a great offensive line, we don’t need the tush push to be successful.

If he breaks out, we won’t be able to afford him - like Milton. That’s why we have to draft another DT this year and keep the pipeline going.

Draft one definitely … or even more than one.

Don't know if Howie was asked a question about it but I would have said no comment. We're about to give huge money to Carter and he's got some legal issues still open from that car accident

I picked The EMB 2023 Gameday Live Chat Week 01 and have it on in the background muted on a loop. It's 5 hours

I did the same.

How dare you!😅

So they want to ban pushing the ball carrier? Line up in the tush push and push the blockers, not the ball carrier.

Can we table this until May?

That’s allowable - I’m not sure if eliminating offensive leverage would fundamentally change the game (at least egregious forms of it).

Or hope they can make the playoffs and he only plays 1/3 of season and playoffs.  He obviously can't playba full season plus the playoffs.  At least that is my hopeful rationalization.

His trade value at this point is minimal,  especially with his contract

Really would rather see him retire so we can stop with all this crap.

He will get hurt in preseason next season and won’t play over 25 games

Everyone should log out then log back in using your email address just to make sure you have the correct email address. Once the upgrade is completed, that's the only way to sign in.

The reason for that change by Invision is that everyone knows your username, so part of a hackers job is already public (your username). But your email address isn't known to the public. So it makes it harder to hack.

So make sure now that you know the correct email address to use.

When is the update happening?

We could probably table it until November.
