Didn’t the league doctor say it’s a matter of time before a catastrophic injury happens (without evidence)?

What sort of liability does the league now have if it doesn’t ban it - as they can’t claim ignorance moving forward?

This is likely a bluff but it makes it a concrete money argument rather than more abstract fairness issue.

Meh.   Doctors only have opinions.  What do they know?  (Especially when they are speaking out of their backside, rather than actually citing data)

You don’t need to convince me - the owners on the other hand and their outsized concerns about any threat to the bottom line…

I think that some of the things I have seen in reports from those meetings make some sense to healthcare professionals, but sound vague and nonsensical to the general public.

Theyve used the word "posture", "mechanism", and "catastrophic" when referring to injury risk without evidence. Without the evidence people, especially eagles fans want to write this stuff off. But I know what they're hinting at.

Generally, the word mechanism means a some kind of object or machinery. In sports medicine though, the term "mechanism of injury" refers to how an injury occurs. Catastrophic, everyone knows means bad. But a lot of times when we are talking about "catastrophic injury" we arent talking about an ACL, or concussion. We usually use that word referring to things like a cardiac event, or a C-spine injury.

Putting these clue words together, although this hasnt been specifically reported on- I can confidently say that the coaches, GMs, and NFL doctor are referring to the risk of an axial load (mechanism of injury) causing a c-spine injury due to the posture (heads down while diving forward in to the pile).

With all that said, if they were really concerned, they should start by actually enforcing the Eddie Lacy rule that they made up some years ago to prevent ball carriers from lowering their heads.

They dont need to ban this play. They can call the flag if Hurts has his head lowered when sneaking it. In the interest of fairness, they can also call this on the other team's ball carriers during the game. Not just the eagles.

But, we all know there is no interest of fairness. This is just stopping the eagles from doing something they are good at because sour grapes.

They didn't ban slant routes after Daryl Stingley suffered a C-spine injury and became a quadriplegic for the rest of his life... or rushing the passer after Dennis Byrd had a C-spine injury that stopped him from walking for years afterwards... or tackling after Damar Hamlin had a cardiac event in a MNF game in January after making a 'routine' tackle.

The difference between those plays and the Tush Push is that in everyone of those injuries, one or more players were running at full speed.   In the Tush Push, not a single player is moving at full speed.   Reduce the speed of the collision and the severity of any injury drops dramatically.

I feel its not different than any other short yardage run play where the OL wants to fire out low, the DL wants to fire out low. And the RB generally puts his head down to plow forward. Or any other QB sneak for that matter.

Im just saying, prevention of c-spine injuries is what they are specifically trying to pin this on.

Im not sure how playing the "what-if" game here has any merit over banning any other singular play that occurs during games. Even if it werent disingenuous, its stupid.

I’ve listened to a lot of takes of what Travis Hunter could or should do in the NFL, and I’ve had difficulty attaching myself to any of them. Play only WR, Play only CB, Both full time, full time CB with WR packages, or full time WR and dime CB. I just can’t really decide which could be the best choice, maybe it’s because they’re all viable.

But today it clicked for me: Travis’ true value is he is the "assured” most pro ready player in draft history, because he hedges the bet. Maybe he isn’t a top-5-pick impact at WR day one, or maybe he isn’t a top-5-pick impact at CB day one, but the odds are extraordinarily low that he’s neither.

Play him at what he proves best at. And if he is genuinely dominant at both, figure out a way to make it work. If I’m a team that has a QB and both my lines are pretty good, I would trade the farm and hedge my bet for a player like this (if I were drafting 5-20, definitely not someone in the Eagles’ position). This is non-line value that doesn’t come around every draft; It’s not like the guy is a combo TE/PK. If he’s a hit (all players are risks on some level), then he’s worth more than whatever you could have gotten at 12 this year AND at 12 next year.

Hunter looks like a really good CB prospect, worth spending a top 10 pick on.  He’s not an elite WR prospect, IMO.  I wouldn’t even spend a first round pick on him purely on his WR abilities; the level of competition he was playing against was not great and I don’t see great route running or outrunning tackling angles.

Play him every down at CB and he might be another Sauce or Quinyon.  Mix him in 5-10 snaps per game at WR.

I saw what Schefter said, but I think he’s overstating where things stand.

I don’t think it’s a gimme that Goodell will be able to whip 8 more votes.

In fact, I don’t expect it to happen.

Just my view on it, but I don’t think it matters what Goodell himself wants or is saying. He’s voicing the opinion of the owners and competition committee that do want it banned. He hit all the same notes they already put out there. So it’s more of can the 16 rumored owners plus commission committee plus Goodell change the language enough and lobby to get 8 to flip their votes.

Also something to keep in mind, they moved the vote from a location with all the HC’s, GM’s, Front Office guys, agents and reporters in attendance to a more private setting with just Owners in attendance. I think most Owners would listen to the opinions of their HC and GM but I could also see a handful of Owners voting a certain way if it helps them out in some way down the line that goes against what their HC and GM think.

Same here. An occasional commercial is fine. But SO many is 'over exposure' and gets to be grating. I even get them on YouTube when watching, but at least I can skip after 5 seconds lol.

But commercials pay for the content, whether a short video on YouTube or minutes of commercials on broadcast TV.   If the NFL revenue was simply generated by ticket sales, we would be looking at a different game.

I really don’t care if the play gets banned or not to be honest

Just sticking my nose in for the first time in a while. Crazy busy couple of months with work. Scheduled some time off and got the Rona Saturday night just before leaving for Big Bend National Park.

I hope all you jerks are still celebrating 😂.

One of the reasons Deion went to the cowboys was because they told him he could play offense, and why not when you have a guy with his playmaking ability with the ball in his hands why not draw up some plays for him on O to get the ball in his hands

I dont think hunter is the talent deion was at DB but he should be a more polished WR than deion was

Does Hunter return kicks/ punts as well?

Memory unlocked

It would be fun to have them line up two offensive linemen behind Hurts in the tush push formation and smash them into defenders trying to go over the top.

Yes, I mean why not?  Im sure the next year some team would propose a rule banning lineman from lining up in the backfield.

The whole thing is just ridiculous and that Goodell is jumping on tush push ban bandwagon makes him look like a bigger clown than he already is

I'm editing commercials out of games... Jason Kelce was in A LOT of commercials. I'm not even watching them and I'm already tired of them lol.

Does this mean that if you (hint hint) made discs for the kind folks here, there would be no commercials included?

Nailed it

Why were they blowouts?

Turnovers.  GB, Wash and KC…all directly tied to turnovers.  We can split hairs on the start of the SB, but i wouldn’t say ‘shutting down the run’ against a Reid coached team was the defining factor.

WOOHOO 10,000 views on YouTube! Still only a small drop in the bucket of what's needed to get monetized, though. We only have 6 eligible hours of viewing, out of 4,000 needed and 95 subscribers out of 1,000 needed.

I still say you should do a weekly podcast where we get drunk and doing a 1 replay per play recap/breakdown of games.  Would be prolific content.

I've thought about a podcast, but I just don't have the time to do it.

Theoretically, hypothetically, yes. But not for the Super Bowl. For the Super Bowl, there would be chapters where the commercials are, but could be skipped with the push of a button.

Why? Well, for the commercials (in the future they may be appreciated), but also because the radio broadcasts don't always go to commercial break when TV does. So leaving the commercials there, preserves the full radio broadcasts.

Theoretically... hypothetically...
