I really don’t care if the play gets banned or not to be honest

Also don't care. We've been good at QB sneaks for almost a decade. Ban the tush push and then they'll have to ban the sneak cause that was about the same success rate as the push. It just wasn't happening as often because teams didn't go for it as often as they do now, even us when we were leading the league in going for it under Doug

But commercials pay for the content, whether a short video on YouTube or minutes of commercials on broadcast TV.   If the NFL revenue was simply generated by ticket sales, we would be looking at a different game.

I understand. I personally earn revenue from YouTube ads. At one point a few years ago, I was making nearly $3k per month on YouTube. So I have no problem with that. What I was talking about was the number of Jason Kelce commercials and him being 'over exposed'. I don't blame him, he's just making money so great for him.

Theoretically, hypothetically, yes. But not for the Super Bowl. For the Super Bowl, there would be chapters where the commercials are, but could be skipped with the push of a button.

Why? Well, for the commercials (in the future they may be appreciated), but also because the radio broadcasts don't always go to commercial break when TV does. So leaving the commercials there, preserves the full radio broadcasts.

Theoretically... hypothetically...

You sent me Cds back in 04. Thanks for everything keeping the boards alive… Really appreciate you so glad you got to see two titles.

Thanks. I actually pulled the 04 DVD's (not CDs), out yesterday. I might upload some of the Super Bowl week stuff to the YouTube channel.

I might put an old game up at some point and see how that goes. The oldest full game that I have is a 1970 MNF game. The one where Howard Cosell had to leave at halftime because he was drunk lol.

Turnovers.  GB, Wash and KC…all directly tied to turnovers.  We can split hairs on the start of the SB, but i wouldn’t say ‘shutting down the run’ against a Reid coached team was the defining factor.

Nah.  No splitting of hairs in the Super Bowl.  They ran the ball 3 times in the first half.  The Eagles had more sacks than that in the first half.  7 possessions, 3 runs.  It wasn't shut down by the Eagles, the Chiefs never tried.  They had only one first down the entire first half, and that was their first offensive play of the game.  Everything else was turnovers or 3 and outs.  7 possessions, 3 rushes.  And they didn't try even 1 rush until they were down 10-0. The next 2 came on the drive right after the Dejean pick 6 and the Eagles were up 17-0.

Just out of curiosity, what are you doing on YouTube to make revenue...particularly when you were making 3k per month?

Yes, the only argument that holds water is that any pushing/pulling of the ball carrier is an unfair advantage for the offense. This is why the rule against it was made originally back in the olden days and why it is still in effect at the HS level. In the stampede to help offenses and increase scoring in the early 2000s they changed the rules - now the eagles have come home to roost by perfecting the shove. All other arguments are BS, and the push back by the league is absolutely sour grapes.

I’m an eagles fan and at the present the shove is novel… but I’m not looking forward to a sizable minority of the league also becoming very good at it. Kind of like the dissatisfaction I have with the NBA and 3pt shooting…

We have a great offensive line, we don’t need the tush push to be successful.

They covered that on PFT live and said one of the reasons the pushing/pulling rule got added in (2005 ish) was because it was hard to consistently officiate consistently. How do you define what is pushing and pulling?

If the NFL cared about safety, they'd be more stringent on OLrunning to a pile and taking the opposition players out.  And players targeting the head and neck area.

A HC said the same thing to Mike Florio - someone that hasn't popped their head above the parapet publically to give an opinion.  It looks like some of the league are wanting it gone because they can't defend it, but another part are more of the, man up dude and find a way to beat it, stop being so soft.

Regardless, the Eagles OL will get you one way or another because its that damned good.

My feeling is that rules against aiding the runner existed for nearly a hundred years and it served the purpose of keeping a lid on the more egregious and designed abuses.

The same that non Chiefs fans feel about Mahomes and his brother.

Atlanta on this 0-7 start is amazing and hilarious…the season hasn’t even started yet, but Atlanta is really the only challenger i see to another NL East crown.  The Mets and that Soto contract is insane considering I don’t think they have a single top of the rotation pitcher.

Kind of agree. It's more down to the consistent applications of the rules (if banning), and the Eagles finding how to maximise the concept to their advantage - but the shove isn't egregious; I'd call it a worst obnoxious because its so damned effective. Mahomes was great on the shovel passes - wasn't banned.  Etc

And if you look, the shove doesn't always end up in a push, so you banning it may not actually do anything meaningful in that regard to the shove. QB sneaks will happen as will other similar plays. Will HCs and GMs moan about short yardage when the push is banned and the Eagles still convert at a high percentage?

Whatever happens, they need to think about the whole thing, and come out with more quantifiable data than injuries that lack data and some teams being butthurt.

Just sticking my nose in for the first time in a while. Crazy busy couple of months with work. Scheduled some time off and got the Rona Saturday night just before leaving for Big Bend National Park.

I hope all you jerks are still celebrating 😂.

See y’all closer to the draft. ✌️

Sorry to hear about your trip.  Love Big Bend.  Have pictures of my Dad standing in the Window that my "kids” replicated a few years ago.   Watch out for the scorpions and the pink snakes.

To be fair, they're probably very aware they have limited shelf life, a decade out of football and they'll be yesterday's news.

So strike while you're hot.

It's probably a money thing and still wanting to be relevant. You also have some that just into retirement and enjoy the rest of their life

I think they overuse the play but I'd rather they weren't forced to stop

I guess the egregious examples based on the old ruleset would be: a) Jalen bodysurfing over the pile with the aid of the pushers; he isn't squatting 600lbs in those situations and would've had little momentum otherwise b) Jalen is being tackled in the flat and is going down at the one-yard line when Goedert two-hand carries him by the shoulders and pulls him into the endzone.  Both are good plays under the current ruleset, but would likely have been flagged in the previous era.

Three weeks until the draft!

Jeff Lurie made the comment the other day about whether or not the 2024 Eagles were one of the best teams (if not the best) in NFL history.

How would you stack up the 2024 team against the best teams of all time?

Absolutely - and this is just a riff not directed anyone else in particular.  But then the pedants would say, ok, happy that has been done.  So do we stop it in the open field or is it just the goal line or short yardage?  Then another person will raise the D players pushing the other way to stop forward progress when the whistle has blown the play dead. How do you legislate for accidental contact when a DL shoves and OL who then tries to balance themselves and pushes the ball carrier?

And suddenly, the whole thing becomes a subjective mess. You shouldn't legislate because of hurt feelings and a lack of skill

Lest we forget the concussion Devonta Smith suffered against the Saints when he received a late hit?  That 1 tackle caused more injuries than the shove did all last season.
