Jeff Lurie made the comment the other day about whether or not the 2024 Eagles were one of the best teams (if not the best) in NFL history.

How would you stack up the 2024 team against the best teams of all time?

Our performance in the first four games of the year would water down some of the advanced statistics.  Also, we look at the last two games of the season as what this team was, but our playoff wins over GB and LAR weren't very impressive.

I am not sure we are in the same tier as the '60s Packers, '70s Steelers, the '80s Niners, or the '85 Bears.

Like this guys feel for the defender to spring for RAC yardage and good elusiveness too. QBs weak arm is frustrating. I suspect this guy can look even better on a real football team. No idea where he will be projected. He could be a UDFA gem.

cant edit that post for some reason so responding to it to add more.

Can see a long career as a slot WR in the NFL, and possibly a returner.

His pro day compared to Yarns' pro day who is actually on the NFL radar is very impressive.

Can I trademark Phil Lutzdelphia ?

Goodell doesn't like the fact the Eagles are superior to the Giants and Cowboys. His top two markets. He wants to bring the Eagles down a peg to try and close the gap. That's what this is about from his end. If the Cowboys mastered this play, there is zero chance he'd want it gone. Leagues ABSOLUTELY HATE when Philly teams are great because Philly success means NY isn't having as much success. Because in all the sports Philly teams play in the same division. Except in the NFL that also includes Dallas, the NFL's #1 box office and ratings franchise.

That's what this is all about.

Goodell does have a bias towards NY teams. I think he worked for the Jets.  I don't think he prefers Dallas but Jones does have substantial pull in the League.  So does Mara.  They both voted for the ban.  I think that likely influences his decision.  I do wonder whether they will look to replace Goodell soon.  He's 66 and you have to wonder how much longer he will be in place.  Tagliabue retired at this age.

Cowboys may have got their next QB.

Yeah, those teams...along with the '72 Dolphins...are always the ones regarded as the best.  Certainly different eras of football and the game is much different these days.  It may be more fair to say the 2024 Eagles were one of the best of the "modern era"?  As in, maybe in this century?

What were your trades to move from 96 to 90 and from 134 to 118? I agree with all your player choices through 164.  Don’t know much about Travis or Dolan.  It would have been ideal to get a second DT and/or a second Edge with those picks. Ahmed Hassanein from Boise State is often available late.

As a UD fan, I can tell you that Phil Lutz is the real deal. At one point during the year, all of his TDs were 30 yards+. My dad was just down at the UD Pro Day and Lutz did pretty well. i think he ran in the 4.5 range. Just a solid WR.

Their RB, Marcus Yarns is intriguing as well. He's a terrific receiver and quite shifty. Ty Herring at CB is a sneaky good player too.

Absolutely - and this is just a riff not directed anyone else in particular.  But then the pedants would say, ok, happy that has been done.  So do we stop it in the open field or is it just the goal line or short yardage?  Then another person will raise the D players pushing the other way to stop forward progress when the whistle has blown the play dead. How do you legislate for accidental contact when a DL shoves and OL who then tries to balance themselves and pushes the ball carrier?

And suddenly, the whole thing becomes a subjective mess. You shouldn't legislate because of hurt feelings and a lack of skill

Lest we forget the concussion Devonta Smith suffered against the Saints when he received a late hit?  That 1 tackle caused more injuries than the shove did all last season.

That is easy to officiate because the D players objective in every play is to stop forward progress. The O players other than the ball carrier have the objective of clearing a path so the ball carrier can maximize forward progress.  Running into a pile of players should/could be legal if it is to clears path for the runner, but not legal if it is to push the runner.  The refs would simply observe where the point of contact of the blocking player is in order to determine whether to throw a flag.

I think these mock simulators are severely underrating Mason Taylor.  He'll be long gone by 64.  I'd love to get him, though!

I don't like this. I really like him as a QB prospect.

James Pearce Jr. reportedly has the "worst character report” of any player in this year’s class, per Cory Kinnan.

Pearce, who lit up the combine with a 4.47 forty at 6-5, 245lbs, has raised some red flags due to perceived character concerns.

"I was told that the Tennessee football program could not only breathe easier once Pearce left campus but that his pitch count in SEC play was not injury related. Pearce was seen as undeniably uncoachable and as a player with one foot out the door already this season, giving his coaches little incentive to put him on the field full-time,” Kinnan wrote.

"I was told by one scout that Pearce Jr. is seen as the player with the worst character report of any player in this draft class. Another scout told me they think the environment and people around him in Tennessee are the main issues, and they think he could become a pro when he enters an NFL building,” Kinnan wrote.

"NFL personnel won’t be shocked to see him on the board after the first 64 picks in the draft.”

In an interview with WalterFootball.com, an anonymous AFC director of player personnel said Pearce’s character may detour his team from drafting him no matter how far he falls.

Time will tell how true these reports are

Schultz:

My understanding is since Joe Milton became available at the start of the offseason, teams that showed interest included the Raiders, Eagles, Giants, Steelers and the Cowboys.

The #Patriots had a better offer for Milton but chose to send him where he wanted out of respect for him, per source.

All of those great teams are prior to 1994, and as such didn’t have to play with one hand behind their back.

Femi O's pass rush win rate is mediocre over 2024 as a whole - until you look at the last set of games where he starts to really figure it out.  I figure he's a 3rd round target like Jalyx last draft.

Even if you set aside any NY / Dallas bias, the NFL has worked hard and long to legislate parity into its product.  The Salary Cap legislates against successful teams.  The Draft legislates against successful teams.  The scheduling algorithms legislate against successful teams.  Everything about the tush push is contrary to the mission of achieving parity.  Therefore, it must go.

Rather than "modern” the era probably should be called the Salary Cap era.
