I dont think the eagles necessarily value blocking in a prospect. They draft them and teach them to block.

Ertz wasnt a blocker at all in college. Goedert wasnt a great blocker and learned. Calceterra wasnt a blocker at all and is getting pretty decent...

DG was a helluva blocker…a complete TE when drafted.  That’s why he was drafted that high out of St Mary’s School for the Sick and Blind.

Madrid vs Barcelona has to take the cake.

Oh, and the ACTUAL greatest player rivalry ever… Ronaldo vs Messi.

This is a "rivalry" in the same way that Eagles vs Cowboys is a rivalry as of late.

I’d disagree. Ertz was drafted for a very different system with Chip Kelly, and we had our inline TE with Celek.

Right now we have an older/expensive inline guy in Goedert and a younger "move” TE who functions like Ertz did with Calcaterra. We are also much more of a run heavy team these days. So we’re looking for a Goedert replacement who can block.

Warren would be ideal, but won’t happen. Loveland and Finnigan are poor fits for that type of role. Taylor is probably the most complete prospect after Warren — good size, can block, athletic, good route runner and solid hands. Pretty sure they met with Taylor at the combine too.

After that, Gunnar Helm from Texas has an ideal skill set. Good blocker, zone busting ability as a receiver, good hands. Obviously his athleticism is still a question mark due to rolling his ankle at the combine, but it wouldn’t put me off too much.

Arroyo out of Miami is intriguing as well. Solid size, OK blocker but with upside there, very athletic, but injury concerns. Haven’t seen us linked with him much.

The talent pool really falls off a cliff from there if you’re looking for a #1 TE who can do it all. I’d say the safest pick would be Taylor since he’s the cleanest prospect with the best floor to ceiling profile (probably middle of the second round). Helm is probably the best value, high floor decent ceiling (third round) and Arroyo is the boom or bust type of prospect who might have the most potential of them all (third round).

Did they make the trade for DTR or make the trade to offload Pickett?

For DTR

Yes, let’s compare total stats for a guy with 18 years at one club to a guy with 10.

Barca Messi logic to avoid talking about champions league titles.

Absolutely right. That’s a rivalry that goes beyond sport.
Shame on me for being so provincial.

Another one I was too young to experience, but the way my father and grandfather talked about it made me think of a battle between the titans and the olympians — Wilt vs Russell.

That explains why DG is always missing so many games... he was part of the 'sick'.

Oh so you wanna compare goals and assists on a per game basis? Okay...

From what I’ve seen, not really. He’s more of a big slot type of TE. You really don’t want him lining up next to the right tackle with his hand on the dirt and blocking a lot. It just isn’t using his skill set correctly. Tall and lean build, so I’m not confident he has the stoutness to be that guy even with some time in the weight room.

I think he’ll be a good pro, just not the right fit here assuming we want to continue to be a run heavy team.

Not that hell last til 32 but yeah hes not an elite in line blocker and doesnt mean he cant become one, hes got good length and strength and as stated came from a run heavy team.

None of the top TEs are great blockers, Warren has shortish arms and is just ok, Mason Taylor is still filling out his frame, and loveland as well needs to get a bit bigger, the kid from Texas is kind of in the same category.

Ben yurosek from georgia is intriguing as a possible scheme fit for birds, georgia used him in a multitude of ways as a blocker, in motion, in line, detached and hes a capable receiver, more so than say jack stoll

Calcaterra is a pretty good receiver, he sure gets up field quick once he gets the ball, but as a blocker he leaves a lot to be desired

The two new guys arent great run blockers either and Jenkins im assuming hes back as a former WR still needs a lot of work as a Blocker.

Who knows maybe they cant trade goedert and keep him this year, hes a great blocker for the 10 games he'll play but after him theres a significant drop off in run blocking

I'd say the hate was pretty even until A&M defected to the SEC.

Now that they're both in the same division of the SEC, it should be pretty even again.

Of course, the Red River rivalry was played in Baja Oklahoma.

Once spent a summer in College Station, . . . it's not even a fun college town.

When my better half was considering Masters programs in growing wine grapes there were three choices … Cornell (my alma mater and where I personally experienced 63 degrees below zero wind chill factor, UC Davis (here in Nor Cal), and Texas A&M (where I had a hospital client for the six years I was in Dallas).  The choice was a very easy one … A&M was a distant third.  The academic program was top notch, but who would want to live in College Station?

DTR's value is that of a trade throw-in, nothing more.   He was a 5th round pick 2 years ago and when he got into games, he was frankly, pretty terrible with a pretty terrible team.  No one helped him, and he helped no one.  1 TD and 10 INTs is a poor starting point.  So, my expectations for him are extremely low.   If the Eagles get anything out of him, he'll have exceeded my expectations.  But, IMO, his presence in no way makes McKee more expendable.  McKee is the #2 and if he were traded, the Eagles would be in desperate need of a #2.  So, I don't see McKee as being remotely available for trade.  A team would have to dramatically overpay to get him... which I don't see happening.

DTR was not a throw in.  He’s a third stringer, not a starter.  Emergency QB.  They, in essence, promoted McKee and replaced him with a developmental QB.  Noting is guaranteed but this idea that DTR and Green were throw ins is absurd.   They are potential reclamation projects, much like Becton and White were last year.  One hit, one didn’t.  Could they upgrade from DTR?  Probably not in this draft.

Now I can see the conversation beginning with Howie talking up Pickett and bemoaning losing him would weaken the team all while fishing about DTR by suggesting he was a failure, so why would the Eagles want him.  All to drive up the compensation.  Same with Green.  But these are both players they checked out.  Both were Top 30 visits in their respective draft years.

Yep…they know McKee is the backup, and if DTR has to play we may be cooked

For us … that is a narrow perspective.

For all the talk about best RB class ever, the comps on this site get kinda trash pretty quick. I do like Clinton Portis down there for Croskey-Merritt

All of the above is why I want Jackson Hawes as Jack Stoll redux.
