If they have to have international games, make them on Thursdays after the bye. 2 birds.

The timezones will make that a hard sell - unless the NFL accept that the US market will have game starting at 2pm EST and 11am PST for a 10+ weeks of the season and US fans will have to suck it up.  Thursday is a free day for sport in Europe, so that would fit.

I don't watch TNF at all right now, so there's no loss for me.   I can DVR the games and watch them that night if I choose.  But, until the games come after a bye, that won't be happening.

I’m fine with it - typically the only time I go to the Phillies (baseball) is for the businessman special which is ~1pm game on weekdays. Also, 2pm EST is better than 9am (or 6am PST!) for me.

I'm not that fussed about TNF either.  I don't think some US based fans will see it as acceptable and broadcasters may not want to pay big money to have the result spoiled on social media.  But they could do a TNF double header - game 1 in Europe, game 2 in America.

From my perspective, it's' great timings. But as I say above, broadcasters may not like it.

I forget the timeframe, maybe in the 90's, but they've done 2 bye weeks before. I hated it, but I'm sure the players liked it.

For the level of fandom all of us in here have, yes…it sucks having 2 weekends not knowing what to do with your hands.  I might be a bit extreme with my ‘watered down’ view, but me personally i have trouble sitting down, watching and enjoying any non marquee match up anymore with the way the game is played.  Everything done these days is under the guise of ‘player safety’, yet something as simple as a common sense bye week time frame hasn’t been talked about really ever to my knowledge outside of this time (where i was 6).  Insane that the Eagles this year for example played 17 weeks in a row.  But OMG, someone wiped their nose as a celebration…death penalty.  At various parts of the season, only Tuesdays and Weds are off the table…right now.

For the global market, this would be pretty cool…but I’m on my bye weak soap box right now and as is this is a terrible idea from that aspect.  They’re almost better off resurrecting NFL Europe if this is the route they want to go.  I have no clue how the revenue looks for the international games, but I’d imagine with the global rise in popularity of the sport it’s within the realm of ‘could work’ now.

The issue NFL Europe had is overall quality. It kind of sucked and never really got above a niche sport that was expensive to run.

But, doing a TNF from White Hart Lane or somewhere in Germany would be cool.  The evening vibe would be a better than an early sunday afternoon, especially on a night in late October/November time where it would be dark the entire time.  Plus travel back to the east coast then would be easy.  Finish the game and fly home.

Revenues wise, with separate TV deals and the 17th game, I can imagine the buzz factor alone would sustain full houses where some TNF games are kind of seen as a joke in America. The model is proven with Thanksgiving, so try it on two continents instead.

Lions are the team that put the playoff seeding proposal out there

So why did the league office ask the Lions to propose playoff seeding based on record, regardless of division championship? Because the Commissioner wants it.

Per multiple sources, it became clear during last week’s league meetings that Commissioner Roger Goodell wants to eliminate the guaranteed home game for teams that win their divisions.

Goodell’s preference became clear during the meeting regarding the proposal that was made by the Lions (at the prompting of executive V.P. of football operations Troy Vincent). One source in the room for the session said Goodell became visibly irritated at the resistance to the measure.

Sounds like they did it for Troy asked the Lions to do it

Well that sucks. I wanted to edit that mess but it says I can't lol

I’m all for continuing the international games, but overall that is a very taxing trip.  The NFL marketing department is light years ahead of where they were back in the NFL E days though.

Kiper has Eagles taking James Pearce Jr. Has Giants taking Carter and Sanders falling to the Saints at 9.

This is 100% how I feel.  The NFL needs to stay in their lane, which is one of the reasons I raged against the "NFL on Christmas" this past year, which fell on a Wednesday... so, now NO particular day is 'off the table' anymore.  They can (and will) play on any given day of the week if they decide they want to.

You can delete it and start the post over again from scratch.  When I do that I copy and paste the text into another place (Word, Text Messages, Notes, even an email to myself) and then copy and paste it into the new post so I don’t have to retype all of it.

The travel is taxing, don't me wrong.  But if the players come off a bye. then it's doable as a concept if considered to be the added bye week incentive. Bye week > Thursday in Europe > normal schedule/US TNF.  It would alleviate the tiredness of travel a little, but I don't think it will happen.

As for NFLE.  I don't see it as viable in the sporting framework we have in Europe. Rugby Unions season is going later, football is running later and later, and in general, unless the standard is drastically improved. The Marketing is better, but I think even a 30k capacity stadium being full for games.

Think the giants get one of the two blue chippers in Carter or Hunter now, damn it.
I don't want Pearce, isn't strong enough against the run for Vic.

I don't like the way the game has changed in some ways either, especially if Goodell gets his way with playoff seeding. To me, Divisional Champs should have a home playoff game. I don't care if they're 7-10 going against a 14-3 Wildcard team. If that happens then the 14-3 team should make easy work of the Division Champ in their own home.

I also hate the new kickoffs. They want to complain that the "Tush Push" isn't football, well that new style kickoff isn't football. But I understand wanting to find ways to prevent serious injuries. But they're headed down the 'flag football' road a little too fast for me.

Looking at some mocks lately.

Ward, Carter, Hunter, Graham, Campbell, Mambou, Walker, and Jeanty are consistently in the top ten.  After than, the talent curve flattens out, so it's pretty much a matter of need over ability.

It also looks like more offense early in the first round again.  There should be plenty of Edge and DL options after 25.

But my bet is that we don't pick on Thursday night.

I feel like if we did a full realignment like that, Philly belongs with WAS and BAL. I get that the NY markets are higher value, but that division would be a big yuck

I get NY-PHI-BOS being the dream, but thematically we just fit so much better with Baltimore

Philadelphia to midatlantic

Buffalo to Northeast

Detroit to Great Lakes West

Indy and Cindy to Great Lakes East

boom

Here's my counter proposal based on latitude:

Seahawks, Vikings, Packers, Bills

Lions, Patriots, Bears, Browns

Jets, Giants, Pittsburgh, Eagles

Colts, Broncos, Ravens, Bengals

Chiefs, Commanders, 49ers, Titans

Vegas, Panthers, Rams, Chargers

Falcons, Cardinals, Cowboys, Jags

Saints, Texans, Bucs, Dophins

Anything is in play. Could see Howie trading up, trading back. Schefter called the Eagles "The team to watch" on draft night, expects them to be very active. Has been insinuating for a couple weeks now that the Eagles could move up for someone they love because they have 20 picks.

On a side note, Ray Didinger said today that he absolutely loves Mike Green. Thinks he's going to be special.

I did one in alphabetical order.

Bears, Bengals, Bills, Broncos

Browns, Bucs, Cardinals, Chargers

Chiefs, Colts, Commanders, Cowboys

Dolphins, Eagles, Falcons, 49ers

Giants, Jags, Jets, Lions

Packers, Panthers, Patriots, Raiders

Rams, Ravens, Saints, Seahawks

Steelers, Texans, Titans, Vikings

As far as the realignment based on area, I don't think having teams in the same city in the same division/conference is a great idea. Can you imagine how confusing that would be for the fan bases playing twice a year in the same city. I know they allow more tickets to go to the home team, but I feel like Rams/Chargers and Giants/Jets would always be the same. I like having them in different conferences, so when they play once every few years it makes it an event.
