Solak mentioned him the other day. Loves him.

This guy got in to some negatives, but he did say that he may be the stickiest CB in this draft.

Defensive Line... this is where I feel the need to drop the assets.
EDGE is a hole.  We have Smith and we have Hunt.  As I view it, that's it.  Sure, there's the pipe dream that Huff can offer something, but this is a guy that got 1 snap in the Wild Card round against the Packers, 0 snaps in the NFC Divisional round against the Rams, 12 snaps in a blowout in the NFC CG against Washington, and then was a healthy scratch for the Super Bowl.   I have zero expectations for him moving forward.  Then there are the lottery tickets - Josh Uche and Azeez Ojulari.  Uche was a healthy scratch down the stretch after the Chiefs traded for him.  A few years ago for the Patriots, he put up big numbers... once.  Ojulari is a Georgia guy, and maybe he can find some mojo surrounded by other Bulldogs, but I don't see either one as a guy we can really rely on, and even if they break out and shock everyone, they are both on one year deals and would be extremely expensive to resign if they show out.  So, they still need some young depth guys.  Uche and Ojulari are both still relatively young, so they could come back at 'reasonable' numbers if they are assets, but if they show out too much, their price tag will sky rocket.

DT again needs talent.  We lost our second best DT.  Can Ojomo stay as productive as he was this past season with more snaps?  Hard to know.  Even so, they need to replace the snaps he got if he takes on the snaps that Williams got.  So, they need more bodies at DT, for all the same reasons as DE.  The Super Bowl really was won by the DL.  They dominated like no other unit I've ever witnessed in a Super Bowl.  They were the MVPs.

The good news is that DE and DT seem to be the strength of this draft.  So, this is the year to invest in them... and best of all in drafting is where value and need align.  This is the year to target the DL again.   None of the other positions meet that criteria to a "T" like this.   Granted, you can find that one guy at a weaker position sometimes, but that will be far harder.

All the other positions have someone in place in some way or another.  But, the number that fits for me is about 5 or maybe 6 rookies on this team.

I can easily see 8 but 5 or 6 wouldn’t surprise me.

Still crazy to me nothing has changed hands at all in the first round. Every team still has it's original pick.

With the Eagles, my best guess is Eagles trade up. No idea for who, but with the way the draft is shaking out I think this is going to be one of the years it's not going to cost as much as usual to trade up. Howie will exploit that, especially having 19 picks over the next two years.

While I understand the trade up scenario logic, after the top 10 there really is a plateau from 11 to at least 50.  So the incremental improvement you are getting by trading up from 32 is pretty miniscule.  However, if one of the top 10 starts dropping, that is a clear trade up opportunity.

With that said, who are the players in Round 1 that you think are worth trading up for?

It was reported lots of teams are angling to move down. It does smell like Howie taking advantage of yet another market oddity.

in the video I just posted, Matt Miller said he had 20 1st round grades last year. This year, only 13.

13 seems low….it makes it seem like grading is just getting stiffer.  I get that there are bad drafts, but sometimes I think we don’t know that until later and it’s all BS…

When discussing this in the general, I agree with you about the value of the player... but then when it comes down to the individuals... there is a vast difference between a S, LB, WR, DE and DT.   Unfortunately, I don't know the particulars on specific players, but ultimately if they identify a player in that group that fits their scheme like a glove... pay and go get him.  I don't want to wait around any more and just take Marcus Smith or Jalen Reagor.  I want the move to go nab Jalen Carter, finagle the board to land Cooper DeJean and Jalyx Hunt... even the move to land Jordan Davis, which has been disappointing in some respects, but awesome in others.

For me, the entertainment value is seeing the awful picks the awful organizations make.  The Eagles may not even make a pick on Night 1 this year

I'm wondering this too now. At first I really thought to trade up, but our actions with contracts and needing more cash this year, maybe trading out of round 1 is another way they are looking to save additional cash, which seems to be most important to them right now. Not that I agree or want that however

In most drafts I agree with you, but this is a very unique draft for several reasons:

(1) The Eagles have the 32nd pick, which has value leverage in a trade down scenario, but no value leverage in a trade up scenario.  Teams value the 5th year option … especially for a QB.

(2) the areas that the Eagles would like to improve their roster happen to align well with the areas where Picks 25 through 40 are strong.  Said another way choosing a BPA is quite likely to have that BPA align with an area where the roster has an opportunity to improve.

(3) not only is that alignment there, but this particular draft has quantity/depth of quality players in those positions.  For example at DT, Derrick Harmon, Walter Nolen, and TJ Sanders all would be a pleasure to have in Kellly Green.  Similarly at Safety, Malaki Starks, Xavier Watts and Kevin Winston all would be good fits with the Eagles.  Edge is similarly deep.  So, the resources given up to move up are unlikely to yield a marginal difference in the quality of player obtained.

I agree... but I am a guy who prefers the pick of the litter, rather than the leftovers.  Last year, we had the choice of Terrion Arnold and Quinyon Mitchell, a lot of people had them as being at the same level... some had Mitchell higher, others had Arnold.  The temptation might be there to trade down a couple of spots and take whichever one was left on the board especially with how much they liked DeJean as well.  I'm extremely happy that the Eagles didn't make that deal and they took the guy that they had ranked higher... and then managed to make the trade to land DeJean as well.  ;)

Watching the Phillies game, WTF is this Jardiance diabetes medication commercial? Why is every, single medication commercial a musical? Can we please for all that is good, get rid of all of these medications?

My point was that the number of picks in '25 and '26 are what out numbers the available roster spots, not that this year they couldn't fit the 6 players that they have the picks for.  I probably could have worded that better.  '25 has 6 picks, which isn't that many, but '26 projects to be 11 draft picks.  I don't see that as a viable number, so you use the extra picks in '26 to move up in '25 and get better players rather than more players.

Howie is going to do what Howie does but I think it is flawed thinking that the Eagles have more picks than spots.   They have 8 this year.  They lost twelve players that were on the Super Bowl roster.  Yes, Howie signed a slew of players in free agency but all to one year deals and cheap contracts so quite possibly all can be improved on. Further there are twenty UFAs next year and five RFAs.  So if they draft eight players this year, conceivably all eight might make the roster.  Only 26 players are signed past next year.  So the assumption that 19 picks is too many isn’t accurate. Especially as some may be parlayed to 2027 picks. Further, I don’t see the Eagles as active in free agency next year either.

Hope we come away with 1 of my top 5 safeties.

Starks, Emmanwori, Watts, Winston, Sanker.

He's my #5. I do like Mukuba but I don't like how light he is. I like Malachi Moore too but maybe more round 4 or 5.
