I used to be much more open to injury arbitrage drafting. But I’ve seen way too many pre-injury blue chip players never regain their prior ability.

I think if you’re going to look at those types of prospects they should be outside the top 100, generally speaking.

I made a list of all the names mocked to or talked about in relation to the Eagles with the first round pick. From 1-10, rank each one on the likelihood you think they're Eagles come Friday morning(assuming here they pick in the first and don't trade out).

Nic Scourton

Mykel Williams

Derrick Harmon

Shemar Stewart

Mike Green

James Pearce Jr

Kelvin Banks Jr

A GM seeing how bad their cap is with the capitulation on Dak would do that. As you say, sets them up for a run at relevance again

I just used a draft simulator w/ player trades for the first time this off-season… They crack me up. This is what I got with Parsons:

Helm didn't test that well. In a deep TE class, I think he could fall.

He didn't test well because his ankle was messed up.

I don't think its a high certainty, but I can see scenarios where they do it over perhaps drafting a IOL or WR, as an example.

There was more stuff out there earlier about it being a 1 + player on the cards too. I do think Howie is in prime smokescreen season with all this

RG is a pretty big need and considering they brought in a bunch of guards and/or tackles who supposedly could play inside I think it's a decent possibility at 32, and almost definitely going to be addressed no later than round 3. Donovan Jackson, Josh Conerly Jr., Marcus Mbow, Anthony Belton, and Charles Grant all fit that mold and were in for top 30 visits.

Walter Nolen - 5 (I don't think he's there at 32 and I'm not counting on them to trade up)

Donovan Ezeiruaku - 8 (He makes a ton of sense and might be there)

Nic Scourton - 8 (He makes a ton of sense and could easily be there)

Mykel Williams - 5 (Same as Nolen)

Derrick Harmon - 5 (Same as Nolen and Williams)

Shemar Stewart - 6 (Hard to figure where he goes but I bet the Eagles would love this dude)

Mike Green - 1 (I don't think he makes it into the 20's)

James Pearce Jr - 4 (On paper he makes a ton of sense but I don't see them drafting a guy with character concerns who didn't visit)

Kelvin Banks Jr - 1 (He won't be there or in trade up range)

Josh Simmons - 1 (He doesn't project to G and they aren't drafting someone at 32 to sit for two or three years)

Jihaad Campbell - 6 (This guy is one my dark horse options as I could see them loving him as an edge rusher)

Kenneth Grant - 0 (I doubt they invest a high pick in a NT again)

Tyleik Williams - 0 (Maybe in round 2 but definitely not at 32)

Oluwafemi Oladejo - 5 (I think his chances of being an Eagles are much higher, but not at 32)

Landon Jackson - 0 (Not in the first round)

Donovan Jackson - 8 (He makes a ton of sense and could easily be there)

Grey Zabel - 6 (Doubt he's there but he makes sense if he is)

Tyler Booker 3 (I don't see him as their type of OL)

Mason Taylor 1 (I would be fine with this but I doubt they go TE that early)

Josh Conerly Jr - 8 (Makes a ton of sense and could easily be there)

Aireontae Ersery - 0 (Not a first rounder)

Malaki Starks - 5 (I doubt they go Safety but if he is there they will probably consider it)

Nick Emmanwori - 1 (Not a fit for Vic and they probably aren't going S at 32)

Xavier Watts - 0 (They probably aren't taking a S at 32 and certainly not one that would be a reach)

Guy Morriss.

The context was all the draft capital he has in 2026. So doesn't have to be a blockbuster trade, but could be like next year's 4th or 5th for a serviceable starter. But again that's just pure speculation.

The problem with taking a CB with the first pick is that Edge or DT has to go light. But that problem is also an opportunity. Specifically, if Howie and Fangio come out of the Draft feeling they need one more player, Howie can use one of the 2026 Draft picks to acquire a fourth Rookie contract year Edge or DT for a one year rental, with the plan being to (at worst) get a 2027 Comp Pick when the player leaves in Free Agency after completing the rental year. As long as Howie keeps the Draft Pick larder stocked like it is now, those kinds of Rookie contract rentals can happen year after year after year.

If Howie can find someone who can do both then Davis isn't needed

Agreed.

However, finding a player like that is no small task. Carter doesn’t even match that description.

I don't see a high pick at CB unless one of the top rated CBs falls to them. If their plays continues at a high level, Q and Coop are going to need extensions. Lining up another second CB contract when those 2 are extended doesn't make much sense. I could see them looking for a veteran CB towards the end of the their contract to come in to compete with Ringo/Jackson or a Rookie later in the draft.

Meanwhile Carter is doing phenomenal and hasn't even reached his peak. Plus he's going to have a record breaking contract very soon

Good player, but I’m naturally inclined to hate older prospects. I’d be good in round 4.

When you think about an older player objectively, he could end up with an Eagles career similar to Milton Williams. Would that be bad?

Their contract end dates would be staggered. DeJean at the end of 2027. Q at the end of 2028 and the drafted CB at the end of 2029.

It’s been a while since I’ve been excited about the draft. I stopped watching college football after my uncle died of cancer (he converted me into an Ohio State fan when I lived with him in Columbus while I was homeless), so maybe that’s why it’s difficult for me—I know nothing about these kids. I should get back into it, though, because I miss the excitement.

That's true but they would still be committing a large amount of cap room to one position assuming, which we hope, that they are all good enough to warrant second contracts.

Your idea about getting a one year rental would probably work better at CB. Get a veteran who no longer fits their current teams plans/scheme but may thrive in Fangio's. They got an oldish vet in Jackson but it would be good to have a younger vet in the room in case things don't work out with Ringo.
