Phils are still Hot garbage

I’d draw the line at being ready to play rookie year (unless we are talking about total flier late round picks).

If a player has great talent, but has an injury history….but should be ready to go for their rookie season, I’m intrigued. Dickerson started most of the season as a rookie. A prospect doesn’t have to start like he did, but they have to develop…not rehab.

Sidney Jones spent his entire rookie season rehabbing. Total lost season. Same with Jack Ikegwuono.

Losing an entire rookie season to pure injury rehab has a massive impact on the trajectory of an NFL career.

If someone has injury concerns…or even missed most of their last year of college…but is either healthy now or will be around camp…at least you can plug them into your system, get them in with your coaches, and work on developing them year 1 they are under contract.

Aside from the injury risk, I just think there is a high bust risk when they are hanging around the building doing nothing but rehab in their first year with the team.

Yeah, this is a much more accurately detailed version of my view. Injury history doesn’t bother me per se, but the uncertainty involved in a guy who comes in as a rookie with an injury is concerning to me.

Also, position probably matters. An offensive lineman with an ACL seems different to me than a CB, WR or RB.

The problem with taking a CB with the first pick is that Edge or DT has to go light. But that problem is also an opportunity. Specifically, if Howie and Fangio come out of the Draft feeling they need one more player, Howie can use one of the 2026 Draft picks to acquire a fourth Rookie contract year Edge or DT for a one year rental, with the plan being to (at worst) get a 2027 Comp Pick when the player leaves in Free Agency after completing the rental year. As long as Howie keeps the Draft Pick larder stocked like it is now, those kinds of Rookie contract rentals can happen year after year after year.

I don’t know — there are some really good DL that should be available in the 50-100 range.

If we can land a quality DL (my preference is edge) at 32 or with a slight trade back, then turn around and get a get like Revel in the second I think we should be happy. Get some Stoutland specials later, TE, S.

Hope we really focus on the lines especially DL. We lost some major horses (although somewhat mitigated by the free agents signings). The draft should be telling how they view their own players Steen. Ringo, Sidney Brown, Booker etc. I have hopes for those guys but the coaching staff should have a good idea if they can step up.

That's true but they would still be committing a large amount of cap room to one position assuming, which we hope, that they are all good enough to warrant second contracts.

Your idea about getting a one year rental would probably work better at CB. Get a veteran who no longer fits their current teams plans/scheme but may thrive in Fangio's. They got an oldish vet in Jackson but it would be good to have a younger vet in the room in case things don't work out with Ringo.

I agree the one year rental followed by a Comp Pick concept would work for CB just as well as for D-Line. It actually can work for any position. The key to it working is the supply of possible/available rentals.

Dave Dombrowski is a fraud. The team regressed every year from a WS loss, to an NLCS loss, to a division series loss. The same issues cost them each postseason and what was his solution? Run it back expect with a worse bullpen. Anyone with half a brain who followed this team could see it was a terrible offseason and the team had/has major question marks which the GM failed to address because he was arrogant enough to think things would get better "because."

I think the owner gave him a very limited budget and Dombrowski just didn’t have the money to do more. Dombrowski has always been a big game hunter, it doesn’t add up that he’d just be content on not spending. Once the Phillies signed Turner their budget was maxed out and ever since then the Phillies have been about keeping the spending to a minimum and trying to find bargains.

Sorry. not buying. He wasted 10 million on Kepler, another LH bat and an average one at that. Meanwhile he completely cheaped out and went dumpster diving for the bullpen. They could have brought back Hoffman and Hayes for 15 million, instead they wasted 11 million on Kepler and Romano. Dombrowski FN sucks.

NIL has ruined it

NIL has changed it, but "ruined it”? How? The players are still the players.

He does suck. I was in on him sucking way before most. I remember saying I hated signing Turner and Walker a few years ago and everyone here was saying I was wrong. And the reason they need to overspend is because he compiled a thin and overrated roster. But this past offseason there’s zero chance Dombrowski just wanted to sign Romano and no one else for the bullpen. If for nothing else Romano had injury concerns. It’s clear he had a budget. I think he made dumb choices with that budget, but I don’t think Middleton would’ve allowed them to spend for Hoffman.

Assuming we were to take a DB at 32, there are lots of EDGE like Umanmielen, Oledajo, Swinson, Stewart, Barron and Diggs who should be available somewhere between 45 and 120. It’s a very deep class and all of those guys seem to have the potential to develop into quality starters.

I actually like the mid and late round value at CB more than the top of the draft. Guys like Nohl Williams, Jordan Hancock, Korie Black, Zach Frazier, Caleb Ransaw and Jason Marshall all have starter level physical gifts and skills. They’re not finished products, but give them a year or two to develop while playing special teams and I like their upside. Nice selection of nickel/versatility and pure boundary profiles too.

So many ways that Howie could go. For sure, dude has a multitude of attack plans.

Yeah, I think Howie is going to be even more busy than normal with the trades this year.

Yeah, was thinking the same. Alot of scheme specific/similarly rated players. He's going to be moving and shaking
