Why would you be okay with that kind of talent going to a rival?

Because they will waste that talent.

Ringo? Rodgers? If you draft a starting outside CB you at getting negative ROI from Ringo.  So the net ROI is less than the drafted player ROI.

FWIW, I personally don’t believe Slay will be gone.

Ironically I just simulated a mock where I added a CB, Trey Amos.IMG_9149.thumb.jpeg.2de39c4d13d6bd2741aef038048ac8a1.jpeg

I don’t think the Eagles would let Ringo get in the way of adding a talented corner if one is there. I tend to think Rodgers has a better chance to start anyway.

I think the Bradberry experience is going to make Howie take a long look at paying another aging cornerback. Maybe Slay has another good year left, but it’s better to roll the dice and use that money elsewhere (namely making sure Baun is back no matter what).

Not to be a broken record but I’d think every failed internal OC promotion would have taught him a lesson too but I fear it hasn’t

They played Rodgers over him every time fwiw

Understandable— we are a Super Bowl team. Of course the coaches are going to go with a proven player.

People seem to forget that Rodgers was a really solid player before the suspension.

But two years into the system and with financial constraints on the roster, the coaches and Howie might decide he’s ready to step up.

I’d expect Rodgers or someone else will be on the team to provide competition, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Ringo wins the job.

The current contract goes through 2033, but the NFL has the right to cancel in 2029.

https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/netflix-wants-a-sunday-afternoon-nfl-package

The NFL wants a global audience, if they can get all the games on Netflix and fans can choose which game to watch instead of Sunday ticket, then the commercials will be seen by a broader audience. They would have to customize the commercials for each country or region, state or city.

And their live events haven't been good, they've had technology issues.

We've had this possibility for more than 10 years now with the NFL Gamepass option.  I guess the Netflix brand would be way bigger but the functions are exactly what all the international posters have had now for over a decade.  There were some early teething issues but for the most part it works great now.  I think I had to restart the stream three or four times total all year this year and never any buffering problems for me.

You can pick any game and look at them live or at any point thereafter.  If you want to have multiple games on split screens you can do that as well. For replays, you can choose a 40 minute version (all plays, no huddles), full game without commercials, highlights of course, or the All-22 and they have all the games backward in time for about 10 years.  Also, all the NFL network stuff is on live 24x7 including all the studio stuff, Redzone, etc.  One nice function they no longer have was the ability to choose the home audio, sadly no more Merrill.

Given that we won and that Slay said in his pod that he wants to play a last, 13th season I now think we will give him that.

And I'm fine with it, think he has one more good year in him. Don't be surprised if we get a last year out of both Slay and BG.

And who brought in the coaches?

He’s won a Super Bowl with 2 completely different coaching staffs and almost completely different rosters, with the exception of Graham and Lane Johnson. And he did this in the salary cap era.

Howie is the best GM of his generation. Full stop.

I believe what he is seeing is, the actual HOF GMs don't even have coaching staffs.  They draft AND develop the players all by themselves!

Don’t forget Jake "the Make” Elliott was on both teams!

This guy almost nailed his prediction. Sooooooooo close…

A lot depends on what they think of Ringo. That guy has all the talent in the world and is still just 22 years old.

I keep hearing about all this talent with Ringo.  Then I watch the games and he's not out there, for 2 years now.  When Slay came out, Rodgers went in... every time.  When Mitchell came out against the Rams... Rodgers went in.  When garbage time came, Ringo came in.  And it was Ringo and McCollum burned for the long TD in the Super Bowl at the very end.

I'm just not seeing all this talent.  Maybe it's hiding, and we'll see it this season...  but I haven't seen it from him yet at CB.

He is really good as a gunner though.  So there's that.

McCollum and Sydney Brown were burned.

Ringo does look good.  But Rodgers looks good and like more of a play maker.

Was it 21 not 22?  I'll be honest, I wasn't really paying close attention then.  You are probably right.

That said, I still haven't seen it from Ringo yet.  The opportunities haven't been there.  And if they are so high on him... they went out and brought in 3 different CBs who all immediately passed him on the depth chart.  So, I take the Ringo hype with a grain of salt.

Was definitely Brown and McCollum.

Oops!

Against the Rams Ringo came in when Rodgers also got Hurt...he did fine but I understand the hesitation..he's physical

and I thought for sure they'd throw a flag on the slightest of contact with him.

They brought in Cine to be competition for these guys. I wouldn’t mind if we draft Castro from Iowa as that program does a good job developing zone instincts. We’ll see how athletic he is soon, but he might be able to fill the Maddox dime/safety role quickly based on what I saw on TV.

Correct me if I'm wrong.  Didn't they replace Rodgers with Ringo in the packers playoff game for some plays? I agree I like Ringo. Check that sorry it was the Rams game.

Which Rams game was that?  The snow game in the playoffs?   That was 9 snaps, in bad weather.  That's not exactly the sample size I would be looking for to project him for the future.

He had 112 defensive snaps all year in the regular season.  More than 50 of those came against the Giants in the final game, and another 10 came in garbage time against the Cowboys in that final matchup.  He hit double digit snaps only one other time during the regular season, against the Saints with 11.

He could very well be everything we could want in a CB to start opposite Mitchell.  But, all we really have to go on right now is our previous projections of what he could be.   He's had 2 years in the NFL, and still hasn't really gotten on the field yet on defense.  And he's 2 DCs removed from the coaching staff that was in place when he was first drafted.  Honestly, we don't really know what the current coaching staff thinks about him.  But, we do know this... he was CB#6 last year (He was behind Slay, Mitchell, Dejean, Rodgers and even Maddox).  (or he's CB#4 amongst the 'outside' CBs, if we want to delineate between outside and slot CBs.)

I don't have any reason based on what he's done at the NFL level to think that his presence will influence their draft strategy... and I think if they can get him cheaply, that they'd prefer to resign Rodgers and let him be the starter opposite Mitchell, and have Ringo as no higher than CB3 amongst the outside CBs.

There's a lot of intrigue coming this offseason, and it starts now.  Hopefully Howie can lock up a couple guys before the free agency window officially opens.  Looking specifically at Baun and Becton, but Rodgers would be a guy I think they really want back as well.  Slay is under contract for 2025, but he's going to be very pricey.  I expect him to be a post-June 1 cut... 'saving' $4.3M on this year's cap, and carrying $13.2M over to 2026.  If they keep him around, he's $13.8M against the cap, with a dead cap hit of $10M next year.  (They are on the hook for $23.8M for him over two years if they keep him, or $17.5M if they cut him... that difference in cost MIGHT be enough to resign Rodgers.)

Wasn't that Sydney Brown and McCollum? But otherwise, I agree that Ringo is overhyped by fans. Great measurables but stiff hips and possibly a bit of a space cadet could explain why he's never getting meaningful snaps.
