I don't care for DT for us. I'm still holding out hope that Jordan Davis will achieve his upside.

No DT in the entire draft has more upside than Davis. And what DT presently on the board is likely to play at a higher level in 2025 than Ojomo? Probably no one.

You still like to have a 4th guy who might be better. Sanders seems fit that to me. I'd like a safety or TE but DT seems high probability

It’s a depth issue. They rotate guys. If one of Davis or Ojomo goes down then we’re real thin. Maybe there’s a vet or 2 we sign? But you can’t have enough interior DLineman who can create havoc

2nd round feels awfully rich for a 4th DT. Granted, it's 4th DT as a rookie with a pathway to starting at some point.

If you had to guess who was higher on the Eagles board: Campbell or Nolen?

On one hand the Eagles highly value DT. On the other hand, Fangio loves LBs and if the Eagles view Campbell as an Edge/stud ILB hybrid they value that a lot too and Fangio's opinion.

If I could have either....Nolan but it's close. It worked out fine.

My question is if you'd trade another 5th this year and a 3rd next to get up high enough in the 2nd to get one of the impact guys left?

So... looking at how it all shook out, who were the big winners and losers last night?

For me:
BROWNS were the biggest winner of the draft, so far. They fleeced the Jags stockpiled premium picks, including the all important first round pick for 2026, and still landed the guy they wanted all along. They are sitting pretty tonight at #33 and #36. They are likely to mov back with at least one of those picks if they can secure more 2026 draft capital, IMO. I think they are stockpiling for a QB next year.

LA RAMS are also big winners, IMO. We said all along that the difference between 25 and 45 wasn't that big. And they flipped that difference into a 2026 first round pick, although it did cost them a 3rd in this year's draft to do it. But, I still think that was a brilliant move. They are in a good position for today's rounds. With 5 6th round picks in their pocket, I think they are aggressive tonight and will make a small move up in both the 2nd and 3rd round to get their preferred targets tonight.

RAVENS as usual sat patiently, and a defender that was built for their scheme landed squarely in their laps. They didn't pay anything and made a great pick. That's just what they do.

EAGLES are also big winners. Picking so late, its hard to get a true blue chip talent. I think they did, albeit slightly beaten up currently. If the shoulder checks out... this is a slam dunk getting a top 15 player at 31. And the cost of a 5th round pick when you have 3 to ensure you get the player you desperately wanted is a small price to pay. It would have been a good selection at 23... its a great selection at 31.

And the losers:
FALCONS massive overpay for a player that has question marks swirling around him. It could pay off for them, but that was a massive gamble, especially at that cost. Jalon Walker was a chalk pick though, so that mitigates the risk a bit.

But, by far the biggest loser is the JAGS. Terrible trade and a hefty price paid to NOT select a QB. That was a QB trade package and they got an above average talent at two positions. Even if he's the next Calvin Johnson (he's not), they overpaid. Even if he's the next Champ Bailey (he's not), they overpaid. And he's not the combination of Calvin Johnson and Champ Bailey. He won't be able to play both sides like he did in college at this level. His conditioning is great, but he's going to get much more beat up in the NFL on both sides of the ball.

The Rams can’t have had more than 2 or 3 1st round picks over the past 10 years…weird weird organization.

I’d add the Panthers to the losers bracket…from everything I’ve seen they took a WR top 10 who doesn’t like football.

Definitely. They aren't drafting 12 guys next year.

No -- we took Nolan Smith with the 30th pick in 2023. Nakobe was the 3rd round pick in 2022.

You’re right, I got my bulldogs mixed up

Problem is even that won't get them up much. Great winning but it sucks picking last.

There have been a lot of them...

It is apparent that Jihaad Campbell was a selection of opportunity...not necessarily a vote of confidence in Jordan Davis, Kelee Ringo, and Sydney Brown. But I still prefer to think of it as that too.

There is a lot of smoke for Campbell being seen as an Edge guy:

  • Washburn was the guy he spoke to

  • Howie made it a point to bring it up before even being questioned

  • Right now, top LBs get close to $20M. Top Edges get no less than $30M. Fifth-year option for an Edge is valuable.

  • They were aggressively trying to trade up to get him. I can't see that for another LB.

The next clue will be which position coach greets him at the facility today. King or Washburn.

I will be watching closely.

The observation about BVS is a good one. Having BVS as the full time FB makes selection of a RB in this Draft even less likely.

BVS is better than Travis Hunter, he is a three position phenom, LB, FB and special teams terror.

What vets are still available? Specifically on defense? I think Justin Simmons is. He has to be an upgrade over Brown

I think if they do it, it will be for a DT like Turner or Sanders. I'm not sure they jump up for Green or Ezeiruaku since they view Campbell as a hybrid that can rush the passer. I think Simmons is the plan at safety after the draft to push Brown (this year's Devin White). Maybe they jump up for a TE, but the longer it lasts with Goedert, the higher the chances he is back on a reworked deal.

The Browns easily won the draft yesterday… as of now. Knowing them, Graham will end up being a disappointment and they will completely botch the QB situation next season.

Hopefully the run of WRs happen in the 2nd before us so pushes some guys down to us. Is a big drop-off from this tier of WR to the next.

Pretty sure everyone expects him to sign with the Eagles after the draft

The OTs are really thinning out too. I'm hoping there are a few reaches there.

Norman-Lott also

Day two thoughts / Targets:

Edge - Donovan Ezeiruaku, Nic Scourton, Femi Oladejo, JT Tuimaoau, Mike Green (Is he even on their board??)

DT - TJ Sanders, Shemar Turner, Omarr Norman-Lott

CB - Will Johnson, Trey Amos, Sharon Revel Jr., Azareye'h Thomas, Benjamin Morrison

OL - Jonah Savaiinaea, Wyatt Milum, Marcus Mbow, Tate Ratlidge, Anthony Belton, Charles Grant, Aireonte Ersery, Cameron Williams

TE - Mason Taylor, Elijah Arroyo, Harold Fannin Jr., Terrance Ferguson

So things can change really quick by the time we get to 64 but right now the value is really there at Edge, Corner, and the OL. DT is a bit thin already in terms of day two and might be more of a day three options unless one of those three guys makes it to 64. I won't even try to predict who they pick after they went LB last night as they are obviously in the mode of just sitting back and taking the best guy on their board but I would be really surprised if they don't come away with someone for the OL tonight.

I didn't list any safeties because I think they have a handshake deal in place with Justin Simmons for next week which won't effect comp picks and I think they like Brown enough to see how he does this year being fully healthy. I also don't think there are any safeties which would be great value/fit unless Mukuba somehow falls to 96.

Also, I am probably wrong based on what he typically does but I actually think other than a minor move up/move down (3-5 spots) I expect Howie to stick around 64 and 96.

Garafolo was on Gargano's show:

Thinks Henderson from OSU goes early. Maybe to Browns with the first pick tonight.

Browns love Mason Taylor, keep an eye out for him with their other pick.

Emmanwori won't last long.

Thinks Milroe could very well go before Sanders, wouldn't be surprised if Sanders lasts until the 3rd round. Thinks Saints have Shough ranked ahead of Sanders on their board, watch out for Shough to the Saints tonight.

I liked 22 for Ringo. I don't like 7 for him.

Sure - I’m not sure how often you can reliably rinse and repeat from the bargain bin to push off taking a BPA edge prospect.

As I have said in recent comments, Round 2 DT/Edge, Round 2 trade up, Round 3 BPA. That means plenty of competition for Ojulari and Uche … as @Iggles_Phan pointed out as well.

But here we sit on the precipice of year 4... the chances that he'll actually ever reach that potential diminish by the day.
