His problem has shifted from "do you want to invest in him as your franchise QB” to "do you want to invite a circus to your team for a mid/late round pick who is going to be 3rd or 4th string?”

Eventually, the answer will be yes, for someone, once we get into the "F it” draft pick range. And the Eagles are as likely to be that team as anyone…

I disagree whole heartedly with that. Frankly, I don't think Sanders fits the vibe of this team. I don't think he 'loves football'. I think he loves being a football player and what he thinks it can do for him. But, I just don't see him as the type that this team targets, especially if he's going to invite a circus atmosphere to the club, whether intentionally or not. And further, I don't think he's got the right mentality to be a 'developmental backup QB', which is what he's going to be here, and likely anywhere else he lands. Does he know how to say the right things, how to put in the work when no one is around watching, to be the consummate teammate, to run the scout team, etc.? Nah... I really think this is going to end up with him in Canada for at least the start of his career. He's going to go the Doug Flutie route. We'll see if he can prove the NFL wrong up there and see if he comes back to the NFL eventually.

I know this is sarcasm, but it still needs to be answered. Just looking at the #1 overall pick...

2024 - Caleb Williams
2023 - Bryce Young
2019 - Kyler Murray
2015 - Jameis Winston
2011 - Cam Newton
2007 - JaMarcus Russell
2001 - Michael Vick

This isn't including top 5 QBs... it started with Steve McNair at #3 in 1995, and has just happened more and more frequently since then. The narrative about race and QBs really needs to go away. For 30 years, black QBs have been getting picked in the top 5 overall. The issue now with QBs isn't race, its coaching. College coaches aren't developing 'pro style' QBs the same way that they used to and so now the NFL is moving towards more and more 'college style' offenses as a result. It is what it is, but what it isn't... is race.

And in Philadelphia its really been 40 years, starting in 1985 with the 2nd round selection of Randall Cunningham that black QBs have been in vogue. 4 of them have gotten huge deals with the team - Cunningham, McNabb, Vick and Hurts... meanwhile, on the flip side, only Wentz got a huge deal during that time. The race debate should be dead and buried, ESPECIALLY in this city and with this fanbase. Its not, of course, and we see it brought up constantly, but it should be dead.

You would think, but then what can the talking heads argue about?

Lost in all the draft talk, we can't just glaze over the fact that the NFL is bringing City Connect uniforms in to the fold. I HATE this so much. I don't want an Eagles uniform that local artists create with some cringe worthy storybook attached to it. Nothing good is going to come from this.

There are 16 games with 8 home games. The NFL rules now state a team can have 3 helmets and can wear alternate helmets for an extra game now. Maybe that was in preparation for the CC program, who knows. But, let's not give he NFL that much credit. As of now, the rules could lead to the following.

Midnight Green- 3 games

Kelly Green- 3 games

BFBS- 1 game

City Connect- 1 game

4 completely different uniforms could be worn. Not just 4 different combinations, but 4 different uniforms. Team identities continue to go by the wayside for fan jersey sales.

The 6ers have already had so many versions of the city connect. With the liberty bell, boat house row, and reading terminal market. I like most of them. But Im not sure what else can be done, and how it will look on a football jersey as opposed to basketball.

BUT.... it might get me to buy a new jersey when that time comes.

I just learned that Dieon has been Shedeurs coach throughout his entire career. Middle school, high school, college. He hasn’t played for anybody else.

This is how to NOT ingratiate yourself to your potential new employer. They are sending a very clear message, and it isn't being received.

At the rate things are going, he's likely to end up in the CFL.

For sure the 3 ring circus has become 1 ring .... or less.

Honestly, that's probably even worse for him. A team is going to take a chance on him to be the guy. Nobody is going to want to put up with the circus for a backup player.

Yes. I’ve always believed that’s why Tebow’s career ended early. Yeah he never had the best arm but proved he could win games with the right system/play-calling. However, he was never going to be a full time starter so no way teams wanted all that media attention for a backup.

Same with Cam Newton late in his career. No way he was going to come in as a backup and not create drama. Even though there’s clearly not 50-60 QBs better than him.

Exactly...there are too many to even remember what they've had. That's not good team branding...and they play 82 games a year.

The Sixers have had the Rocky sweat suit uniforms and the Spectrum uniforms too.

Are we prepared for a Mummers themed Eagles uniform?

Do any of the OL left move the needle for you? It seems like some of the best OL depth is at Center right now.

We are watching them kill the golden goose by squeezing it too much to get more golden eggs. The game grew due to the traditions of the game. Most of the fanbase in my age bracket grew up on NFL Films and the voices of John Facenda and Harry Kalas telling us the stories of the past, and having Steve Sabol teach us about the history of the game. The current generation is getting nothing but glitz and glamour, and the NFL keeps trying to find new shiny things to wave in their face to keep their attention. That will eventually fail and the long slide will inevitably follow. The NFL is highly unlikely to become the NHL in terms of popularity, but much more like the NBA. And frankly, that game has become mostly unwatchable, at least to me.

From the little I watched Sanders play, I’ve always thought he could be a decent starter. I think his ceiling would be Tua, but probably more like a Case Keenum (who has won games in this league). He’s just not an all-time great athlete like his dad was but it seems as though he thinks he is.

Mbow is still out there and was rated much higher than this.

Im not sure that anyone else comes in and competes to start. But there are a number of OT projects- Cameron Williams, Lundt, Travis, Vinson, Pole

At guard after Mbow, Jackson Slater is an interesting prospect, and Willie Lampkin is one of ge99's guys.

At center McLaughlin is the 2nd ranked center in the class according to the ESPN best available list, and I know hes a good one. Eagles have also met with others remaining. Kendall for sure. And I think Simpkins as well.

I could see them targeting any of those guys between 111, and UDFA.

could we pick up cam scattebo to fill some of those tight end reps? I like the idea, seems like a tough kid

Oddly enough, any saints fan old enough to remember the last arch(ie) manning they had might have some ptsd considering he was one of the worst qbs in history 🤣

He really wasn't though. He was good enough to stick in the league for a long time and bounce around. The 'worst' QBs in history are forgotten most of the time because they never get a second chance. Would you say that Manning was worse than Kevin Kolb? JaMarcus Russell? Clint Longley? Certainly not. Archie got to spend 13 years in the NFL, and was a starter for the vast majority of it. He was a guy like Ryan Fitzpatrick. He was way better than a lot of other #2 overall draft picks that have quickly faded from our memory... Ryan Leaf, Rick Mirer, Marcus Mariota.

I like Hill at CB, Hawes at TE, Travis at OL and the top guys left at DT

There are so many good RBs left, Im beginning to think the eagles get one in UDFA.

For instance, Monangai had a disappointing combine, but the eagles showed a ton of interest. He is stylistically the same as Skattebo

I could see someone like Raheim Sanders potentially being there late-UDFA as well.

There are a few Id like to actually select in the draft but Im not sure the value will be there for the eagles with the picks they have, and players at other positions who will be available.

One thing I really doubt is that they take Skattebo any time soon so I think he will end up elsewhere.

The roster is desperate for a CB. That might be a later trade though.

Hawes is so limited as a pass catcher that I believe he is easily going to be a UDFA.

There are others that I think we may still draft.

A couple decent CBs, and DT looks nice.

At some point the Tory Horton slide has to stop. Hes a sneaky pick because WR is a low key need.

This narrative you’re spinning in your head that a human is perfect and infallible is a bit over the top…again, it’s ridiculous to say with 100% certainty that a mistake wasn’t made.

The reverse is also true. Howie HAS been guilty in the past of getting too cute and losing out on guys. We also know that he's learned from that and has actually become more aggressive the closer that guy comes to his pick and he's made a lot of little moves up, especially in the first round, to land his target. He did it with Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, just did it again with Jihaad Campbell. He does tend to move around and do more trading as the draft continues, so he's not done. But, given the amount of ammunition he has already for 2026, I'm guessing the prices asked for early in Round 3 were too steep for his taste to go get the guys he was really high on, and then the reality of this draft came crashing down, which is... there's just a limited number of targets worthy of the selection in Round 3. He might have overplayed his hand again, but I don't see that as the most likely case given the number of picks for 2026 that he already has. That wasn't a trade he had to make, but one made out of opportunity, IMO. I don't think he liked the board, and he got an offer he really liked.

I sure didn't lose any extra sleep over that decision.

How is Newsome from Cleveland? Havent followed. Former 1st round pick available in a contract year.

I think they're trying to appeal to a younger generation. How successful they'll be remains to be seen.

Im not sure that the eagles wouldnt have liked that OT yesterday. But I cant recall seeing his name on any list of meetings with the team at all.

And when you think of how a team stacks its board, and you look at the players who had visits with the eagles that got drafted earlier that round, its clear that they were on a higher tier. With those guys wiped out, I just think even if the eagles had a draftable grade on the guy, he wasnt valued at that pick.

The eagles would have decided the value of a trade down was better than taking that particular player. If they really targeted him, he would be an eagle.

I think a little disappointing. But possible.
