This is why I was hoping they would target their guys and move up to get them. Be aggressive. How many late round 2026 picks do we need? I would have rather traded a 2026 5th to move up in the 2nd or 3rd than move back for an extra 2026 5th. Granted, you need a trade partner, and it needs to be a reasonable deal, but that's what I was hoping they would do. But I'd rather walk away with 4 players they really wanted, instead of settling for what's available and getting more 5th round picks.

This draft is giving me a Donnell Pumphry feeling. There are still some talent left at DT/EDGE, but the true impact and depth of the positions are gone, at least at those positions. There isn't much OL depth left either. As of now, RB and LB are looking the strongest at the top of the remaining talent.

I'd agree that moving up in 2nd/3rd is more valuable than moving back to late rounds. If the FO thinks highly of the scouts and coaches to find and develop sleepers, it would be over-sight, maybe arrogant. The same resources could have turned better talents in the early rounds to shine even brighter.

Im not sure that the eagles wouldnt have liked that OT yesterday. But I cant recall seeing his name on any list of meetings with the team at all.

And when you think of how a team stacks its board, and you look at the players who had visits with the eagles that got drafted earlier that round, its clear that they were on a higher tier. With those guys wiped out, I just think even if the eagles had a draftable grade on the guy, he wasnt valued at that pick.

The eagles would have decided the value of a trade down was better than taking that particular player. If they really targeted him, he would be an eagle.

Yes he visited, met all of it. But yeah even if they would have taken him they clearly thought the risk was worth it so they didn't like him that much.

I wonder if Brett Kollman is having a Mel Kiper type breakdown about Brayden Swinson dropping to Day 3, as he was putting him into the Day 1 conversation. Probably not, as he understands he’s not really an NFL scout.

The roster is desperate for a CB. That might be a later trade though.

For today the name I'll root for is Dorian Strong.

I never really saw much with Swinson. Then again, I could not believe Gillotte went so high in the 3rd.

I think hes a little older, but today those guys are ok. And hes a really good fit for the defense. I definitely think hes going to be one of the top possibilities with our 2 picks this round.

I think they're trying to appeal to a younger generation. How successful they'll be remains to be seen.

Yes, exactly. And the younger generation isn't being exposed to the game the same way and being taught about its traditions and lore.

That really needs to be brought back. But, sadly, I guess the days of that are gone. The poetry and artistry of NFL Films likely died with Steve Sabol.

These are the kinds of things that always sent chills down my spine and made the game feel larger than life.

NFL FILMS

"Professional football in America is a special game, a unique game ... It is a rare game. The men who play it make it so. All of them are fearless. All of them are strong, quick. And all of them are part of a story that began long ago. A story written by men who found, in the sport, a demanding measure for their own courage and ability."

Say that with the right voice, add some big music with a lot of timpani drums... and you've got something to behold.

Some are disappointed the Super Bowl champs traded out of round 3. Meanwhile...

That's a great name. Not sure about the player, but the name is a 10 out of 10!

He was about to be cut since he was out of options. Good for him.

He really wasn't though. He was good enough to stick in the league for a long time and bounce around. The 'worst' QBs in history are forgotten most of the time because they never get a second chance. Would you say that Manning was worse than Kevin Kolb? JaMarcus Russell? Clint Longley? Certainly not. Archie got to spend 13 years in the NFL, and was a starter for the vast majority of it. He was a guy like Ryan Fitzpatrick. He was way better than a lot of other #2 overall draft picks that have quickly faded from our memory... Ryan Leaf, Rick Mirer, Marcus Mariota.

None of them were starters for 8 years though. The Saints were abysmal at that time according to everything I know, so it’s not 100% on him. I’m trying to think of someone else who had such a long leash despite pretty putrid play.

Swinson seems like a jack of all trades, not overly powerful, twitchy or bendy - so solid, but no calling card. It’s like how could you put him in 1st but Jack Sawyer in the 4th.

Oh, no doubt. My point was... he got that long a leash and lasted in the league to the age of 35. Those others I mentioned were so terrible they were run out of the league before their first contract expired.

He might be the worst QB to get the hype that he does, but that seems to be a Manning trait. Eli was pretty terrible for a long time too.

The reverse is also true. Howie HAS been guilty in the past of getting too cute and losing out on guys. We also know that he's learned from that and has actually become more aggressive the closer that guy comes to his pick and he's made a lot of little moves up, especially in the first round, to land his target. He did it with Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, just did it again with Jihaad Campbell. He does tend to move around and to more trading as the draft continues, so he's not done. But, given the amount of ammunition he has already for 2026, I'm guessing the prices asked for early in Round 3 were too steep for his taste to go get the guys he was really high on, and then the reality of this draft came crashing down, which is... there's just a limited number of targets worthy of the selection in Round 3. He might have overplayed his hand again, but I don't see that as the most likely case given the number of picks for 2026 that he already has. That wasn't a trade he had to make, but one made out of opportunity, IMO. I don't think he liked the board, and he got an offer he really liked.

I sure didn't lose any extra sleep over that decision.

I mentioned it yesterday, Howie views the 6th and more specifically 7th round as UDFA territory. They use those picks to lock down priorities. I have no issue with stockpiling since there’s quite a few balls of clay left on the board it seems.

So do you think he’ll trade for veterans to fill any gaps?

I'd like a trade up this morning for Robinson or Swinson. I'm now a little bummed that we didn't get a Dlineman in a draft full of good dDlinemen. Having Pumphrey regret.

Everyone saying there is no talent left on the board while you are half correct it was from the void of top end talent in this draft. The stength of this draft is its depth.

I see multiple players the eagles scouted who just went off the board and are still on the board.. to me that says they have a bunch of them rated close and chose to trade back pick up a couple more picks and try and get multiple players and let the best ones make the roster.

What do we think the positions they fill today are?

DL, EDGE, CB, OT, TE and RB are all fairly big needs to varying extents. Also wouldn’t be surprised if we took a WR.

They literally just traded down and only got a 6th. I don't see them giving up more than they traded to move up less

That sounds eerily similar to Brandon Graham.

OK... I'm confused. lol

The Eagles exited the first 2 days with 2 guys who are likely to start on defense this year. I get the disappointment in the way the board fell but let's be realistic here too

Right.

The talent that was left didn't match the draft slot in value. These guys were 4th round talents.... that doesn't mean that they aren't guy who can contribute, eventually.

It's a shame there are a lot of good LB available and many would be an upgrade over Trotter Jr. We need to separate our nostalgic feelings for Trotter Jr. He got a SB and that's great, but if they can upgrade, they should.

Barret Carter, Smael Mondon Jr., Danny Stutsman, Cody Simon, Kobe King, Jeffrey Bassa, Jack Kiser are all better than Trotter IMO and could be had in the 4th. I have no issue making LB a strength.
