Howie said they had zero long-term concerns about Campbell. So who knows how warranted the concerns are. Don't forget we went through this same thing with Dean. And he turned out to be fine. There was word that he was gonna need pec surgery and miss the entire rookie season, and Howie was like we aren't concerned about his pec and the Eagles were right.

Nakobe Dean has never played a full season in the NFL as a starter. He got hurt in 2023 and in the playoffs in 2024. The injuries concerns were legitimate.

That makes sense. I'm actually pretty excited about their first few picks, though. It may have been a bad class overall, but I think Howie did a good job.

I think what he was referring to was Alexander’s age. Taking an old player when your roster is full of holes and rebuilding is not wise.

I can't remember a 2nd contract on an older drafted player being an issue on a player that played well. As I think we mentioned the big issue is that the old player was playing against 19 year olds and the college performance might be exaggerated because of that difference

Not in the context that they were stated pre-draft. He fell in the draft because there was word he had to get pec surgery. He didn't. So they were wrong. Now there is word Campbell has knee issues. We'll see if they're right or not.

Yikes. Roster is nearly maxed out right now and with limited numbers to begin with, there wasn't much to choose from, but this is bad. Really bad.

Oh boy - looking forward to the internal battle RTK has over Hurts not going to the White House roll I hope we get to see it play out

From what I read there was a knee bone bruise. May take some time to heal up but unless it is severe it shouldn't be a long term concern.

Yup, Alexander (25 in August) would've made a bit more sense as a plug and play guy for a contender but the Giants need to get some hits too. Norman-Lott is 23 (couple picks earlier), Vernon Broughton 23 (couple picks later) and not really a 3T, Deone Walker 21 but stinks and has back issues (couple picks ahead of us), and then our guy Ty who turns 24 this week. Not exactly a young group...

Didn't he also say they had no concerns about Jones too?

Sidney? Don't remember, but I think he just sucks. It's not like he had recurring achilles issues. He just can't play.

He was touted as the best CB in the draft preinjury. That ended up being incorrect lol

Howie gets the Cap hit regardless of whether he keeps Huff or trades him. Before the Draft Huff had a (possible) role as a dedicated pass rusher. Now with APR able to fill that role, there is very little downside risk in trading Huff. Howie and the scouts will be assessing all the other 31 teams to see which ones would benefit from adding a designated pass rusher.

Huff had a poor season but he's produced at the NFL level. The other backup edge pass rushers are big question marks. Huff isn't going anywhere.

I think they miscalculated Huff's ability to play a 3-4 OLB role, he's similar to Sweat and Reddick in that he's an undersized DE, not a LB.

This year they'll use him the way they should, as a designated pass rusher with his hand on the ground, the way he was when he posted all those sacks for the Jets.

I don't think age matters as much as mileage for NFL players, a 21 year old college RB with 1000 carries is "older" than a 23 year old back with 700.

Age matters in terms of experience and upside, but there's a tradeoff, a 24 year old redshirt senior has a long track record, a 22 year old true junior may have 2 seasons, so he may have more room to physically mature, but more uncertainty as well.

By 22 or so, most athletes are close to physically mature, so it's not like they're going to make a huge jump in most cases.

I'd like to see the numbers, but I'd expect very young players to be at the top of the draft, fall off for a couple rounds, then in the middle of the draft.

At the top are the uber athletes who excel without experience, in the middle the guys who drop b/c they're good athletes but football dumb, and scouts have to decide if that's due to inexperience or they're actually dumb.

Whereas the older players should be more evenly spread out after the top picks, "what you see is what you get" but if it's good enough, they're more likely to contribute earlier.

Dean has spent his pro career continually getting injured.

I forgot we even signed this dude.

He's doomed to fail with that number so i'll just go back to forgetting.

At the end of the day I think people make too much about that stuff. If he chooses to pass up an opportunity to visit that historic building and see rooms most citizens never get to see that's up to him. As a history buff I wouldn't care who was in office if I had a chance to see the Oval. Oh well. Glad the rest are going and hope they enjoy it.

We're in our SB window and the 2025 draft class was frankly bad. A big part of Campbell's calculation is "who cares if he's a one-contract player". Give us 4-5 years of very strong ILB play and it's worth it.

Disagree with basically all of this.

Howie commented on the major aspects of your post: Longevity, injury and position.

Howie specifically mentioned that he was drafted for the long term, and that they felt they didn’t need to draft for immediate need. I think this indicates they aren’t viewing this as a 1 contract pick.

They have no concerns on the injury. So again, long term, not a one contract player.

And he’s clearly viewed as an OLB, in the Van Ginkel role, not as a ILB. Howie specifically referenced "PSU” players, referring to Parsons and Carter, who switched from off ball LB to EDGE.

It was a swing for the fences pick. They felt comfortable with the injury and while most teams saw him as a MLB which lowers his value, they see him playing a key position at OLB with a skill set demand that most teams simply don’t have, which raises his value to the eagles.

With Davis and Robinson and Carter in the center of the D-Line, running between the tackles will be tough sledding. If an opponent’s run game is to succeed, it will need to be around the edges, and the speed and reaction traits/skills of the Eagles DEs will make that difficult as well.

I hope you're right! We have no idea about Robinson yet, though. Ojomo has potential as well, but we have no idea how he'll pan out with more snaps either. I can't foresee Carter playing 100% of the snaps on D again this year so we'll need to give him and Davis breaks....and when we do...??? we'll see!

He can do what he wants. I'm not an unhinged liberal having a meltdown over an athlete not aligning woth my political beliefs.

Hurts isn't going

I wonder if McKee had the good sense to go. I want a good decision maker as my starting QB. This may be telling for the QB competition that is about to begin this offseason. McKee and McCord are legit. Team has options.

He could have just gone and made it about the team and the office and the moment together vs his beliefs, but whatever.

Can we not do this? I don't care who goes and who doesn't. Clearly the team gave guys the option and is OK with it.
