Its kinda nice that only people in the blog werent very high on Mukuba. Everything else from people who know football has been glowingly positive.

I think Mukuba is going to make the 2 or 3 of us who had him as S2 in this class very proud. And good for the people who werent really in on him- theyre in for a very fun surprise!

Initially I was worried about his size or lack of and after listening to howie and others talk about Vic ive come around to not hating the pic

Howie talked about how the league has changed and one needs speed at every level of the D, couple that with Vics D where he wants to keep his safeties back in an " umbrella and let the front 4(5) cover the run.

Makubas lack lack of size shouldnt be a factor in the eagles ability to stop the run and in coverage hes shown to be a sound effective tackler.

Well see I expect he wont miss as many assignments in coverage as CJ did.

I am not sure why that would make it harder to keep him next season. No team is going to want to trade for him and pay him that kind of money. It may make it easier for the Eagles to reach a sort of Josh Sweat with him. He then could leave after next season and have a better FA market. He knows the Eagles won't pay him that kind of extension.

Just my opinion, but what makes it harder is contracts like Kittle and then factor in the Kelce and McBride deals, that's 3 guys making more than $17M. Then you have Hockenson making $16.5, Andrews at $14M, Engram and Njoku just shy of $14M and Cole Kmet at $12.5. One year of Goedert at less than $14M is a fair market deal when you see all the other TE's and contracts. If I'm Goederts agent and Howie is asking my client to take a paycut it would be hard to justify why he should take a paycut. It's not about topping Kittle, it's about finding that compromise that works for both. The way the things have been breaking has been Goederts way. If a small paycut was on the table, I think we would have had a resolution by now.

Any chance we just release Goedert? How much cap do we save by doing so?

It makes sense to me fannin was a guy they liked and wanted to move up for in 3 ways

  1. Qb coach has a connection. They probably already liked him through scouting then had more info then just what they saw on tape and scouted with that.

  2. Like i said previous post when i watched him he reminded me of what the eagles envisioned Lj smith could be years ago out of Rutgers and can be used in ways that the eagles used ertz.

  3. By getting him in the draft they’d might have been able to avoid the situation they are in with goedert at the moment. Cause they could have even better leverage to say we will just go with fannin if we can’t come to an agreement for 2025. The eagles lose goedert then calceterra and Harrison are your top 2 tight ends. Thats not good enough. Also just assuming the raiders won’t ask for more than you are willing to give for a cheap contract in Mayer. Mayer has 2 years left of a rookie contract. if the raiders can’t get more than a 4th or 5th they might view his value better as TE 2 then that pick then look to deal him next offseason

I'm glad they didn't actually. I was not a big Fannin guy. If they gave up a bunch of 2026 picks and took a non DL I'd have been annoyed by it. I get why they had interest, but I thought other TEs in this class jumped out way more and to give up that kinda haul for Fannin just wouldn't have been it for me.

Agreed. Goedert has all the leverage at this point. It's going to come down to how stubborn do the Eagles want to be about this. It's a little bit trickier than the Ertz situation as he was already paid I believe and Eagles could wait it out until they got an offer they liked. If Eagles really don't want to pay his bonus and they can't agree on a restructure, I doubt they will want him on the field during TC. You also have to wonder where Dallas head is at. I would feel a little salty about how the last few months went down after winning the SB.

The Eagles got their extensions done already. I don't think keeping him this season impacts them that negatively. I don't think they have to release him to cut costs. I also don't think he's going to want to be released to forego getting his option bonus and salary. His option is for $5 million. I don't think it makes the remainder of his salary guaranteed. Paying it would make it easier to trade him after it's paid.

Leadership and connection are hard to find traits in football coaches. Sirianni has that. This from Zangaro's latest article...

Belichick is a circus with that gold digging girlfriend of his. He has her working for the team in UNC, she's made him her ****. Thank goodness gracious the Eagles never hired that guy.

I hope when I'm 73, saggy, overweight, and single a hot 24 year old makes me her ***** for a couple years

Does he have leverage? It's been proven that no NFL team wants him at his price, let alone passing him an extension. The Eagles are basically vindicated in their stubbornness.

He might be smart to take what they're offering.

It's been proven that no one has offered enough. We don't know what teams will pay him or if they would be fine paying his current deal. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if other teams are just waiting for him to get cut.

It depends what, if anything, the Eagles are offering. But like I said in another post, it's been lingering for awhile now so nothing indicates they are close. When they had this similar situation with Slay, Cox and Sweat, resolutions came pretty quickly. I'm guessing he and his agent have an idea what they can get as a FA and the Eagles so far haven't come close to it. If that's true, then he has the leverage. He can say either keep me at my current rate or cut me and I'll get just as good or better with someone else.

Makes sense cause i believe the QBs coach has a connection to fannin. Frankly fannin can be used similarly to how the eagles used Ertz and long before him how they hoped to use LJ smith. Where blocking he wouldn’t be great but pass catcher they can move around and create a mismatch.

LJ smith was a Bum, still mad Reid didnt draft Witten that year.

Sounds like he has the UNC job paying for it too - interesting perk.

You’re comparing a heat-seeking missile at safety to a bunch of cornerbacks and a scrub like McCollum, who hopefully won’t make the roster And also doesn’t play the position with anywhere near the physicality of Mukuba. There’s basically no point in comparing them.

McCollum was the #3 S on a SuperBowl champion team with close to 25% of the defensive snaps and over 50% of the ST snaps. Now part of that hinged on Brown’s availability but part of that hinged on his play. I pointed to McCollum, Q and Ricks because all three play the run and pretty decently and all three hit and tackle. (Personally I think McCollum played more disciplined than Brown, although Brown was delayed by injury to start the year.) If, as you say, Mukuba was 194 at his pro day, then the weight issue is indeed overblown. Just out of curiosity, since you want McCollum gone, who replaces him? Brad Johnson, the 5’9” 179 pound FA S? Castro-Fields? Cine? I figure if Mukuba takes the reins at S with Reed, then the back up competition is Brown, who has missed games, McCollum, Cine and Castro-Fields (?). Note that the latter two couldn’t get on the field last year although Cine was a very late pickup and Castro-Fields was actually waived from the PS in December and then later resigned to the PS (and the mysteriously valued Lew Nichols picked up in his place). Andre Sam, who is as old as Castro-Fields at 26, is the only S that got time and then only on STs.

Hey i hated that LJ smith pick for the same reason as you. During that draft i was pretty the adamant that they made a mistake by not taking witten over LJ Smith. That said I’m guessing the same vision the eagles had for what LJ smith could be if he panned out was similar to what they had for fannin.

He’s due a bonus of $14M. That’s the hold up. The option you are referring to is just the proration for cap purposes of previous option bonuses and the current one that’s due. If they play him the option bonus they probably just keep him for the year unless they are a lost cause at the deadline. It wouldn’t serve them any good to pay the bonus and then keep trying to trade him.

It’s really more of a cash issue than a cap, but if they do release him after June 1st they get $6.5M in 2025 cap (but take $5.8M dead money in 2026). It’s certainly on the table depending how it all shakes out.

They would save just under $700k on the cap by cutting him. Not worth it at all. But Lurie has cash issues and he'd save some money for sure.

I think the Eagles and Goedert know they are not going to agree on an extension. I am not sure how much the Eagles need to have a pay cut vs. not wanting to keep Goedert in a situation where he is disgruntled.

That girl is bad, bad news. I would make the educated guess that she's an escort/prostitute and they probably met on some online service. Everyone can joke around and laugh about the age difference and how he's "killing it" dating a girl that young, but I wouldn't want either of them near my football team. This isn't going to end well.

There hasn't been anything out there about Goedert wanting a new deal or guaranteed money, even though he likely does want that. I think both sides understand 2026 is more than likely the end of the relationship. Right now it's about finding a compromise that works for both parties in 2025.

That's pretty obvious. Selling part of the team. Selling snow. And a dramatic outback in cash spending this offseason compared to really the amount of cash they have spent over the past 20 years.
