I'm not sure serving time in prison for a few years will allow them to "pay" for taking a life, but I'd rather sign someone like that than someone with a history of beating women. One was a criminally bad and absolutely selfish and irresponsible decision to drive and the other is a pattern of disgusting and inexecutable actions. Within reason and depending on what they did if we don't give people a second chance after prison then what is the incentive for anyone who serves time to change? I'd be good with it.

I wonder if the heirs of the woman he killed will get a piece of whatever he earns. I don't recall anything about that.

Not sure how Ruggs bad decision is any worse than Vicks. If anything Vick was far more malicious

It depends on how you look at it. How many human lives did Vick risk or hurt? How many lives did Ruggs risk or hurt driving 156 mph in a 45 mph zone?

Personally, I can see a difference. Also, Vick served all 23 months he was sentenced. Ruggs also killed a dog, btw.

I think they should

Me too. I wonder if they could file a civil suit if need be? I don't know how long they have before any statute of limitations runs out.

80 days.

It has been 80 days since we dominated the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. Still amazed looking back on the highlights.

I didn't hear of any civil suit in that case. Perhaps there was a settlement. I think it would be too late now to file one.

Nice. So why wasn't he drafted?

We only passed on him 10x ourselves

We risk lives driving every day

We don't all drive drunk and recklessly.

He made a serious mistake no doubt

But if vick did his time then so did ruggs

Word from the rumor mill is the Eagles might start the season on the road in the season opener due to the Phillies scheduled for a home game against the Mets for that opening night 9/11/25. Similar to how the Ravens played in Denver to start the season after winning their most recent Super Bowl due to the Orioles playing in Baltimore that same night.

Of the potential away opponents for that season opener I would likely have to rank them:

1) Bills

2) Cowboys

3) Chiefs

4) Redskins

5) Packers

6) Vikings

7) Bucs

8) Chragers

9) Giants

Jalen Carter did. Eagles drafted him with a high first round pick.

Eagles will very likely sign Ruggs if he wants to sign here. It fits their MO. Him and DeVonta being best friends will also go a long way in the Eagles being comfortable bringing him in.

I already explained my stance a little more clearly. I truly believe Vick left prison a changed man after being mentored by Dungy. We were the perfect team for him to come back into the NFL with since we had a franchise QB and supposedly his heir already on the roster. It was a situation where he could join a class organization on a very short leash. Vick spent the rest of his career doing events to make amends for his past. What, at this point, do we even know about Ruggs? Who is vouching for him? What good things does he bring the team or the city as a person?

If the idea is just to give him a 2nd chance and see what happens --- hard pass from me. If he can show he has changed and can contribute positively to society (like Vick did despite his doubters), then I'm okay with it. In the end, though, this (passing) offense goes through Brown and Smith.

Jalen Carter was not arrested for drunk driving. He was charged with reckless driving and racing in connection to a fatal car crash. The charges stemmed from a crash that killed a teammate and a staff member.

Not that facts matter...

DeVonta would be vouching for him. The good things he would bring to the team would be his 4.27 speed. Dotson will be gone next season. This offense clearly likes having a guy with some top end speed in the slot. He would fit that perfectly to go along with the best deep ball QB in the NFL.

I dont give an F about dungy. Vick was still garbage but why not give Ruggs the same

Benefit of the doubt if Smitty will vouch for

Him?

We know about Carter and also know there was another driver/car involved. Carter used bad judgement, but didn't directly lead to a death. He was involved because it was a "race." But Carter was apologetic and the Eagles took a chance that reuniting him with Jordan Davis (who had a reputation for keeping Carter in line) would help him grow up.

But that's just another reason why we should let another team take on the baggage. When you do it too often, you end up like dallas over the years with players getting multiple suspensions and the team having too many distractions.

If the Eagles signed Ruggs I would cease to be a fan of the team until he is gone. It wasn’t just the unfathomable stupidity and recklessness of driving 156 mph and killing a woman and dog, it was what he and his equally POS gf did and failed to do at the scene in the aftermath.

Disgusted he didn’t get a much harsher sentence and would actively root against any non-Eagles team who would give the piece of crap a paid contract.

Why should Smith vouching for his best friend sway me? I'd actually be more worried that the two would be hanging out together more often. Sometimes influence works the opposite way.

Your entire argument against Ruggs is this assumption that he has no regret over his actions that led to the tragedy of that night and he won't be apologetic when he gets out of jail. I seem to remember he already was at his sentencing. I don't believe he would get out on early release parole as well if he wasn't showing himself as a reformed individual in prison.

I don't see why there would be any expectation for Ruggs to get into further trouble with suspensions and distractions if he would sign here. Like Jalen Carter he was made a really stupid decision behind the wheel of a car. He wasn't a guy going around beating up his GF or getting involved in some robbery where there was actual intent to do harm. And again, he would be coming into an organization where his best friend and probably one of the most level headed mature guys in the Eagles organization is with a huge presence already in DeVonta Smith. Much like how Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean are credited with helping keep Carter on his best behavior. Even beyond DeVonta you have Jalen Hurts who was another former teammate of Ruggs.

As this Offseason Blog winds down its final hours, I did an update of the Roster based on the available info. With Brandon Graham still on the Roster until June 1st, the total players is 90. 1 of those players is Laekin Vakalahi, who has an International Exemption, and 10 of those 90 are the drafted players who don't ccount against the Roster tally until they sign a contract. So if there are any of the Rookie Camp tryout players that the Eagles want to add, there are currently 11 (eleven) open Roster spots to accommodate them.

Here is what I have as the 90 players. Let me know if you see any errors or adjustments that I need to make.

Instead of celebrating their Super Bowl title with a game at their home stadium, the Baltimore Ravens will start the 2013 regular season on the road, because Major League Baseball and the Baltimore Orioles wouldn't budge.

The NFL likes to have its reigning champion open a season at home and wanted to have the Ravens play in Baltimore at night on Thursday, Sept. 5. But with the Orioles already set to host the Chicago White Sox next door at 7:05 p.m. on that date, and the leagues and teams unable to reach a compromise, the NFL announced Friday the Ravens will have to play somewhere else.

The Ravens and Orioles play at adjacent stadiums and share a parking lot, so they avoid playing at the same time because of traffic problems.

"While we are disappointed for the fans in Baltimore," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello wrote in an emailed statement, "we appreciate the efforts of the Ravens, Orioles, and Major League Baseball and fully understand the logistical problems in trying to schedule the teams on the same day. The Ravens will open the season on the road."
