100% this. Let's see what Ruggs has learned. But, I think he needs some time on the outside before stepping back into the NFL. A 1 year suspension following his release would not be an inappropriate measure, IMO.

Agreed

The issue with Milton Williams, and the reason to let someone else overpay him, is that it seems highly possible/likely that his success is due to playing next to Jalen Carter. And the best evidence o

Sure. But this was three 17 game samples, not single games. The long and the short... everyone got more snaps in 2024 compared to 2023... except Davis. You want some context? New DC. And it sure seemed like he was saying, "Davis isn't getting it done, the other guys are."

You are implying that the new DC didn't like what he was seeing ---- Yet Davis started every single week (all 21 games last year). Vic doesn't play around. If Davis "wasn't getting it done," Fangio would have been starting somebody else.

I think he is pretty much what he is at this point.

I don't think it's uncommon for DTs to take several years to really reach their full potential. I'm not discouraged by where he is after 3 seasons. IMO, in his case we'll get a better idea of where he is after 5 seasons. Hargrave didn't really break out until his 6th year in the NFL. Jerome Brown had his best season in his final season (5th). Cameron Heyward has been stellar in the second half of his career. I could go on, but for every Aaron Donald that dominates from day 1, there are 20 DTs that start their careers much more modestly.

Not a bad idea! Also, bring back the team helmet phones and have team representatives at the draft making the call from a controlled line, who can then transfer the player to the team facility.

Hope so...but this quote from a scout (as per this article) is a little concerning...

Now the character’s not great on him but, assuming he gets healthier and gets coached up, I think he’s a starter. Second round.” Finished with 212 tackles (18 for loss), eight sacks and just one turnover play. "The body has come a long way,” said a third scout. "It took him time. Holding above 220 has always been a challenge. That was a big key for him this year — to get the weight and hold it. He tests out well, at least in a straight line. More early Day 3 guy but could creep up a little higher if people get excited about the testing numbers. I would say he isn’t (a green dot). I think he did make the calls somewhat this year but I don’t think that’s him in the NFL. They say he’s super intelligent, a guy who makes 3.0 (grade-point average) without cracking a book. That’s the problem. He’s not going to put in a lot of effort. It’s the same way he’s been on the field. The guy’s a great athlete but never spent the time he needed in the weight room and the nutritional aspect, things like that.

It's interesting to see in that article at least one scout rank him as his #2 off ball LB, second only to Campbell. Massive shift in defensive philosophy doubling up on off ball LBs in the draft AND paying Baun.

The Fangio effect! If there's one thing Howie does as a GM, it's getting players specific for his coaches and schemes.

Yup. If the calls are all coming from the same place, they can make them all come from the same number on the caller ID. And then... if its any other number, you know its a scam.

Stoutland U missed out on a real one.
