Thatโ€™s the one. Even Reid can suck play calling.

Having the 30th ranked defense didn't help. Lol.

True but the plan against the blitz was written in crayon by all those involved which is a lot of people in charge now

LBs is Bobby King. ย Longtime relationship with Vic. ย DBs starts with Harper. ย Hope we hang on to him. ย CBs is Anderson. ย Ss is Kasper. ย TEs is Michaels. ย Nick brought him from Indy when he came. ย RB and our assistant HC (coached when Nick had Covid) is Singleton with assists from Stout and Pagnetti. ย Pagnetti was Singletonโ€™s assistant in 2023 and backed up Stout in 2024. ย Can see why Moore interviewed Singleton and poached Pagnetti.ย

Has Moore poached Valero yet? ย Brought with him to the Eagles. ย Listed as an Offensive Assistant, he was a 2024 hire and spent time with Moore with the cowpads.

Real curious about Pagnettiโ€™s replacement because he was the bench strength for the running game. ย Frankly, I would like to see them hire an assistant for both Singleton and Stout. ย So many receiver oriented coaches on the offensive side of the coaches.

No one in house screams QB coach. Outside for that. ย

Thanks for this.ย  I will tell you though that I will forget this almost immediately.

Hard to be confident about Patullo after the Brian Johnson debacle. The offense survived off pure talent alone for most of the season and then crumbled at the end

Still had a top 10 offense on the season. But we didn't "promote" Desai or Patricia, brought them both in and they tanked our defense. Yeah ... I'm not the least bit worried about in-house promotions. Johnson wasn't terrible, he just wasn't ready. He'll be a good OC some day.ย

We need Moore to hurry up and hire Staley.ย

Norm Van Brocklin.

Bobby Lane. Namath. Staubach for a while. If you have a smart QB who knows the plays, why not? There are a ton of coaches who call playsโ€ฆbadly. Bob Griese called his own playsโ€ฆfor the only undefeated team in NFL history.

My memory of playing was probably picking myself up, going in the huddle, taking a breath, and going. I didnโ€™t care who called the plays.

Iโ€™ve always thought guys who called from the sidelines had no clue what was really going on.

As I said, Iโ€™m a fossil.

But still, the game hasnโ€™t changed that much.

The plan against the blitz by the Eagles, honestly, has been bad for most of the millennium. It feels like we very rarely throw hot and I just don't understand it.

I hear you.ย  I am starting to feel like more of a fossil myself.ย  I just thought I'd add Van Brocklin to your list, for obvious reasons.ย  ;)ย

Maybe itโ€™s because Iโ€™m a fossil, but I harken back to the old days, when QBs called their own plays. Some of those guys were pretty good. Johnny U, Bart Starr, a ton of others. Then the control freaks took over. Head coaches. Offensive coordinators. Did they do a better job? Iโ€™m not sure. Andy Reid calling an infinitude of pass plays in one of the ugliest games I can remember- against Cleveland, I think. I could go on ad nauseam but I want to throw thisย out there. Why not have Hurts call his own plays? With a game plan, of course, still have the helmet mic, just let the reins loose a little, or a lot. Heโ€™s got all these plays in his head and heโ€™s out there, knowing whatโ€™s happening. Is his LG hurting? What is the DE doing and can we let him get away with it? Did the CB pull something and is trying to hide it? Does the WR see a go route open off play action? Etc. Hurts already does some of that when we go no-huddle.

During the bye, the players convinced the coaches to go run heavy. The coaches said OK. Thatโ€™s a step toward giving the players calls back to them.

Teams basically go into a game with maybe 10-15 plays to run most of the time. The rest are situational stuff and you can do that through the helmet. Am I nuts to think Hurts might be well prepared to call his own plays?

I actually think Hurts has more leeway than we think. ย I donโ€™t think he calls the plays but he audibles a bunch. ย It comes down to design as much as calling plays and it comes down to being unpredictable enough to fool the DC. ย But a lot of that is in design not as much as playcalling.

I was unimpressed by Moore as a playcaller. ย Heck, the run discussion from the OL. ย That was for Moore, and Nick and Patullo. ย Unicorn RB, great OL that has OTs on an island in most pass protection. ย Moore had a tendency to abandon the run for stretches (but Nick did that too as a playcaller.)

Personally, I think the best playcaller on offense in recent years was Steichen (but what made him great at that is unsustainable as a HC.).ย

My concerns with Patullo is he and Nick designed plays without checkdowns and seem to dislike motion. ย

Now Patullo has experience with Steichen and Reich. ย Hopefully that wore off. ย  Frazier is a Nick and Reich guy but just spent a year with McDaniel. Hopefully some of the motion tricks rubbed off. ย

My other concern is replacing Nussmeier. ย  I think he was the best Hurts has had. ย That and the Pagnetti replacement may matter as much as anything, assuming the D staff stays in place, of the entire offseason.

Could it be something to do with being caught gambling during the 2022 season impacted whether that year counted as an accrued year? ย Only thing that makes RFA work.

I'll recant my original statement, I think I am just confusing myself because Patriots didn't follow it to promote Jerod Mayo but I think that was a weird loophole.ย

We'll see what comes out. Maybe they just interviewed Jemal Singleton or someone internally to satisfy it.ย

The coaching succession was in Mayo's contract, that's probably why.

Awesome.

I had an opportunity to get my Barkley painting signed before it ships out. They wanted $469 for the autograph on top of the price of the picture. I passed.

I already saw a different signing where you can send stuff in, and it would cost like $300. Not doing that either, but still, the offer was a ripoff.

Anyway, I now have these two first edition prints
from this season- each with excellent detail if you take a close look, that really helps retell the story of our post-season run. I love them.

He does a really good job with the details of the pictures that he does. For Barkley, his signature is always super expensive. I was told for game worn ย jerseys before he was close to breaking the record and with the giants he was charging anywhere from 20-35K.

Also, the reason why that hurdle vs jags photograph hasnโ€™t been sold with his signature is because they were going to have a signing for that. But there were issues with the compensation he would get and the signing fell throughย
