Everyone knew, or at least should have known, who Epstein was and what he was doing. Trump straight up said he knew he liked them young. The problem here is he campaigned on these files. He promised his political enemies were on it. And that if elected he'd release it. He even paraded binders out at a press conference. And now he's trying desperately to pretend they don't exist/aren't relevant/can't release them.

You're right in any normal situation releasing these files to the public would be totally inappropriate. This isn't a normal situation. He made it that way.

I'm not terribly invested on the files but that's pretty different from not understanding the fascination. I mean c'mon, it's got everything and extra sauce of the things that make a scandal interesting. Throw in the political turning of the tables and it's not exactly a mystery why this won't die.
