I think it depends on how closely we mirror the last Gilded Age, because I’m pretty sure we are repeating that era of American history.

Realistically I see social media as modern day yellow journalism, and while politics today is abhorrent, it’s nowhere near as bad as it was at the end of the 19th Century.

My biggest fear isn’t where politics is headed. Given that we are abandoning our place in the world, there’s going to be another World War. It’s an inevitably at this point.

At least the last time we as a nation went though a time like this, we got Teddy Roosevelt out of it. Maybe we will get lucky again.

I feel like the dangers are much higher now though, given how big a factor the government is in the economy now vs then.

I consider Teddy Roosevelt a pretty average president. I mean, he did well under the circumstances after McKinley got assassinated. It’s always hard to wake up one day and realize you’re the guy.

Also, in the 1912 election he started his own party and handed the White House to the Dems. Not great, Bob.

I don’t know, I think government was pretty involved in the economy in the Gilded Age. I mean, lest we forget that the government was funded by tariffs and public land sales. (But the government just gave land to the railroads).

Recency bias

Every generations thinks their risks are worse. Bc humans are terrible at judging risk.

Has nothing to do with recency. You don't objectively believe the government is more integrated with the economy now than then? And that our national debt is a significantly higher portion of the GDP?

Metadata Shows the FBI’s ‘Raw’ Jeffrey Epstein Prison Vid...

There is no evidence the footage was deceptively manipulated, but ambiguities around how the video was processed may further fuel conspiracy theories about Epstein’s death.

Metadata embedded in the video and analyzed by WIRED and independent video forensics experts shows that rather than being a direct export from the prison’s surveillance system, the footage was modified, likely using the professional editing tool Adobe Premiere Pro. The file appears to have been assembled from at least two source clips, saved multiple times, exported, and then uploaded to the DOJ’s website, where it was presented as "raw” footage.
