A trial would accomplish jackshit. He's the sitting president, for one, and a conviction would change exactly zero votes, for two, but these types of crimes are notoriously difficult to prove even when the statute of limitations wasn't an issue. That's the main reason why Carroll went with a defamation case instead of a rape case.
