Seriously. He's like the Godfather.

He just wants DeJean on the field. Sign he trusts him a lot and thinks he's an impact player.

I have to imagine the conditions are something absurd like Huff has to make all pro and 49ers reach the Super Bowl

He has to defend a pass and set an edge.

I didn’t say there weren’t any. I said I didn’t know of any. Do you know of any?

I mean, just using current QBs...Mahomes is the easiest answer. Lamar Jackson. Josh Allen. Hurts. Burrow. Dak is debatable.

I encourage you to watch the entire Fangio press conference linked below it was good.

In addition to the reporter tweets posted already, my takeaways:

  • Huff: he basically said his hand injury kept him off the field, then other guys stepped up. He said he thinks he will do well in San Fran.

  • He seems high on Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt, and fine with the pass rush rotation including free agents and rookies brought in.

  • He really downplayed Sydney Brown. Was asked about his experience being a factor in the competition for safety job, and Fangio said his experience was in 2023, that last year he didn't play until October (because of his injury) and he hasn't really done much. Didn't seem high on him at all.

  • With DeJean and Baun both, he talked versatility and that they will play where it best helps the team, and that can depend on the other guys.

  • He acknowledged there are competitions at corner and safety (which we all know, but refreshing to have the honesty from the coach) and they won't really know until about after the 2nd preseason game.

  • Asked about Jalen Carter's high snap count, he said he's still a young pup.

  • He was told that Trotter Jr on a podcast said as a compliment to Jalen Carter "he doesn't even know how to play the position yet" in that he's just getting started and will get better. Vic agreed, said Carter has already shown a lot and has more room to improve, the sky's the limit.

  • About DT rotation, he said the guys from last year will mostly replace the snaps and Robinson will add to that (as expected).

  • With Jordan Davis, he did praise him for his play in the 2nd half of last season including getting better at pass rush. Before he said he wanted to "duck that question" about his conditioning, he said "we could be here all day for that" and then "for some guys it just takes time." He also said regarding the 5th year option that he had nothing to do with that, that's a Howie decision but he was good with it and said positive things about Davis' play.

  • Regarding Jordan Davis on pass rush, Vic said he started showing it in practice last year and then highlighted the importance of practice ("unlike a lot of people think you don't need practice.")

  • When asked about changing so much personnel, he cited all the changes at this time last year, and that he expects/hopes the new guys brought in (plus returning young players) will fill in to replace.

  • He said he's fine with the situation at corner, but it's a competition and Ringo and Jackson are both having good offseasons.

  • He said the SB parade meeting to criticize the team was fake news, he never said a negative word. He said he gathered them to compliment them on a great Super Bowl.

The fake news thing is kinda funny because it wasn’t some report with unnamed sources or your typical bs news stories.

It came directly from Jalyx Hunt.

He is basically our version of Kenny Moore.

Call him whatever you want. He’ll be mostly in the slot but will be tied for 1st or 2nd most snaps at CB assuming everyone’s healthy.

Yeah I thought that was weird. If Vic wanted to downplay that, he could have just said that he said it as a joke. It's ok Vic, no one's mad at you. You ran the #1 defense and won the SB, you're cool. 😂

Eight at a minimum. You don’t want to wear them out in TC and PS. Plus, Smith is still rehabbing from a torn pec so you don’t have five able bodies right now; you have four. And by the time you get to PS games you have pretty good idea of what you have. You give those guys a few reps and then put in the cannon fodder.

It's probably a matter of perspective. From Jalyx point of view, he did 50 things wrong in the superbowl. From Vic's point of view, that was 100 less than normal a game so he played great.

OK, assuming you will grant me Mahomes (and if you won't, then there's no point in this).

Wentz average of 1st 4 years: 3,548 passing yards, 94.1 rating, 1 2nd team all pro, 1 pro bowl

Lamar average of 1st 4 years: 2,492 passing yards, 96 rating, 1st team all pro (2019), 1 MVP, 2x pro bowler (2019 and 2021), led NFL in TDs (2019). Lamar inarguably more successful (higher rating, more accolades, won MVP) and then there's the rushing.

Dak average of 1st 4 years: 3,945 yards, 97 rating, 2 division titles, 1 playoff win, 2x pro bowler, NFL OROY. Dak inarguably better on stats and accolades.

Josh Allen average of 1st 4 years: 3,529 passing yards, 88.2 rating. Last 3 years after rookie season -- 4,013 and 94.9. 2nd team all pro (2020) and 1 pro bowl (2020). Debatable, but Allen had 31 rushing TDs in those 4 years and averaged 581 yards per year vs. 3TDs and 196 yard average for Wentz. Allen better.

Hurts: 2,941 and 88.9. 3 years as starter -- 3,568 and 92.6. 1 2nd team all pro. 2x pro bowler. 2 playoff wins. Super Bowl QB. Hurts with more accomplishments (same all pro, 1 more pro bowl, more playoff wins and got to a SB).

Howie with all those picks is absolutely making a summer trade. WR I think.

That makes sense, and I can also see him trade some of them for a Round higher pick in 2027.

It's interesting how we had a bunch of rookies step up last year. Here's to hoping the next rookies do the same

The SB criticism being fake is kind of funny. In one way it's good that he gathered everyone up to compliment them after that defensive powerhouse they displayed. Congratulating the defense for that performance likely goes a long way in their development
