Rich Eisen asked Howie about the prank calls. The last blog a couple people mentioned let them watch the pick live then call them after. FWIW, Howie said it's important to them to connect with the player and speak to them live and hear their voice before making the selection. He said when the team is on the clock, if the player is on a prank call then the team is also calling and can't get through to them it can be a problem. He didn't really elaborate. He suggested maybe they use facetime so they know it's the GM.

I’m calling BS on the "importance” of it. They aren’t going to change their mind based on a phone call when they probably already turned the pick in. If Hunt can call him Big Pimpin after meeting for the first time, nothing is gonna change their mind.

So might as well start things off with more Jordan Davis talk…

According to Sheil, the Eagles had a tick better defensive success rate vs the run on early downs when Davis was OFF the field.

Davis is a good run defender, but he's not an elite run defender.

When Davis is on the field, they do ask him to do a lot. When he's off the field, the rest of the team has to chip in more in the run game too.

One thing that struck me about Davis after some Rewatching is that he is a screen killer. Great awareness. Makes me wonder if that is part of his assigned role…

The two things that concern me...Patullo isn't the guy and the injured guys (Dickerson, Jurgens, Campbell, whomever) don't return on time or as good a new.

Weirdly, none of our DTs are good against the run according to PFF but we had a top-10 run defense last season (yards, YPC). The light box strategy would be a reason for why we might be worse than expected, while pushing opposing teams into being one-dimensional due to the score would be a reason for why we should've been better.

Yeah, PFF rankings are not something I consider.

Some S named Wyatt Ekeler from Wyoming.

For those with a Diehard subscription, Fran has a nice write up on the UDFAs. Really highlights the strengths and weaknesses in good detail. Too long to post but his conclusions:

OUTLOOK FOR THIS SUMMER

If I had to stack these players in terms of who I’m most excited about going into training camp, here’s how it would look:

– COULD CHALLENGE FOR 53-MAN ROSTER –

1 – S MAXEN HOOK

– TALENTED BUT MORE LIKELY FOR PRACTICE SQUAD THAN THE 53 –

2 – T HOLLIN PIERCE

– LOOKING TO CLAW HIS WAY ONTO PRACTICE SQUAD –

3 – WR TAYLOR MORIN

4 – CB BRANDON JOHNSON

5 – CB BJ MAYES

– UPSIDE BUT FIGHTING FOR NFL FUTURE –

6 – RB SHUNDERRICK POWELL

7 – RB MONTRELL JOHNSON

8 – LB LANCE DIXON

– FEISTY CAMP BODY TO GET THEM THROUGH THE SUMMER –

I think it’s more proof of life than anything.

For OTAs:

  1. Does Goedert show up and participate? If they let him practice, then it seems very likely he is playing out his deal.

  2. Who is CB2? I bet Jackson gets the first snaps and they make Ringo take it from him.

Does this mean the Eagles have called players while on the clock they plan on drafting but then pulled out and took a different player based on how the phone call went?

I wpuld hope it isn't just a Javlckson vs Ringo battle that they have. Ricks should be given every opportunity to win it as well.

Yeah, it isn't talked about much, but I don't love the choice for OC. An experienced coordinator who could stand up to Nick would have been my preference.

When will nick get some respect? Why do we need someone to stand up to him? He's an elite coach.

Who is a better coach than play caller.

After the NFL bans all pushing the ball carrier plays, the Eagles will begin practicing the Brackets Sneak where Barkley and Dillon line up to either side of Hurts and on the snap of the ball push the tush of the OG immediately ahead. Hurts will follow that surge over the goal line/1st down marker just as effectively as he did in the Tush Push.

And we all know, the Green Bay Packers would start whining that its unfair and want to ban any rugby players from joining the NFL.

Baldinger loves the Eagles picks.

He thinks Kendall was the best pure center in the draft. Thinks Ty Robinson is a stud who will play significant snaps right away. He said he thinks Ty Robinson is a better player than Milton Williams. Likes Mondon a lot.

Why did Sirianni shave his head and what does it mean for the Eagles season record?

Whenever I see this from Baldinger, I always think back to his rave review about Jamar Chaney.
