I sometimes think it’s not even intentional clickbait in situations like this. They take a look at our roster and see a third year 4th round pick with limited playing time competing with Jackson, see that we are a contender with cap space, and just make a prediction off of that.

They don’t take the time to understand that the 4th round pick in question has the measurables of a top 20 pick, that he’s still younger than many rookies, that the eagles targeted him with a trade up, and that coaches have been very public about how high they are on his progress.

No its all clickbait

I defended the Hurts pick. Liked that he could run but progressed as a passer in college. Thought worst case scenario he could be a good backup/gadget guy ala Tyson Hill, which isn't the worst use of a 2nd rounder. Upside of a good starter to either play or trade for good return.

Definitely can't say I was 100% confident in him as QB1 since then though (both TB playoff losses come to mind).

So partial credit?

I thought it was a completely normal thing at the time. We’ve always overvalued the backup QB position, from Jeff Garcia to Kevin Kolb to Michael Vick to Mark Sanchez to drafting Wentz when we had Bradford AND Chase Daniel. Josh Mccown had just retired so it made sense. People didn’t like we spent a 2nd on him, but you get what you pay for. We had a QB who has a lengthy injury history and just lost us a playoff game with his concussion

Cincinnati right now could probably benefit with spending a 2nd rounder on a backup QB with how often Burrow is injured. Same with Dallas and Dak, 9ers and Purdy, Dolphins and Tua

Liked the pick at the time because we needed a solid backup but thought JH would ride the pine. Instead, despite his sometimes questionable decision making and limited passing tree, he has shown tremendous character and exceeded all expectations by winning the SB and may win several more. So count me in the got it wrong category and credit to those who got it right. Looking forward to the season because we should contend yet again since our roster is very deep. Peace.

The Eagles had a history of trying to win playoff games with backup quarterbacks. From Garcia to Detmer to Foles (which fortunately worked out spectacularly but that’s not really the point) to McCown. And there’s also the A.J. Feeley experience where we had to win important late season games with a third stringer.

At the time of the Hurts pick, it did not feel unreasonable for the Eagles to make the decision that they needed a backup quarterback who might actually be good so that they wouldn’t be caught in a pickle of a situation in a critical game…again! And then Wentz fell apart and the rest is history. But I always thought the pick made sense. I think the real issue was that Hurts wasn’t on most fans radar as a second rounder, so they went nuts complaining about him being a massive reach and then took a very long time to accept that maybe they were wrong all along.

I watched a Golden Tate interview this week where he talked about Wentz's back injury the year after the first SB and the locker room dynamic. Then he gets hurt vs Seattle the year after and I think it makes a lot of sense looking back. Howie was on top of that.

I was saying all offseason as the Blog went overboard with it's Jordan Davis hate as it often does about players it becomes an echo chamber about, that he was really flashing as a pass rusher in the playoffs and had two big time sacks in the NFC Championship Game and Super Bowl.

He is only going to continue to improve. Big year coming from him.

You and I often disagree, but on this one we are in full alignment.

I like Jordan Davis, but I’m sure the stats are pretty bad (for QBs) for the pass rushing snaps of every individual DL the eagles had in the playoffs. Kind of an odd team stat singled in on Jordan Davis.

We are having a discussion on another thread and one of the posters there claims he is the only person who believed in Hurts. So here is a question to the Blog, "Who in addition to @RememberTheKoy and @SkippyX were Hurts believers from the git-go … and regular critics of the "Hurts haters”?

Thank you for a history lesson. I clearly wasn’t paying attention.

Easily RTK and it's not even in the same universe

I'll be honest that I hated the pick 🤷‍♂️

When the pick was first announced I was like "WTF?! 2nd rounder?" Then I thought about it a bit and asked myself which quarterback played in the playoffs. Too often it wasn't Wentz so I could understand the Eagles wanting an above average QB2.

Or they were right and he won with a historically good OL, RB and two #1 WRs plus the best defense in the league

Oh, gosh. Perhaps they won because they were a good team of which he was an integral part. TJ. just don’t be a pisser.

How do you think the preseason games are gonna shake out when it comes to the QBs? The starters won't play a snap all preseason. So do you think it'll be something like McKee for a quarter, McCord for two quarters and DTR for a quarter? Or McKee for a half and McCord and DTR split a quarter each of the 2nd half?

I would not be at all surprised if the reality of the first four games of the season causes Nick to give the starters some live snaps in the Preseason games. Probably no more than one series, but just enough to get the rust off.

I don't think they will because they won a Super Bowl with the formula. And I think it was more new coaches in the building on both sides of the ball took some getting used to. And in general I don't think it was rust, I mean they won week 1. I think it was more trying to figure out their identity. I don't think there's any way they do it, the injury risk is too great. If there was any time they'd have done it, it was last season coming off that awful collapse of 2023.

I suspect that DTR will play ahead of McCord in the first preseason game but by the conclusion of the final preseason game McCord will have gotten more overall playing time.

I also think that McKee will get at least one full half in one of the three games.

Seconded.

Now, should we come up with a blog definition of "father"?
