Did you catch the pre-draft PC with Briere yesterday? He said a few things I liked. I interpreted his comments to mean they're comfortable sitting at #6 and picking, then trying to move up from #22. He said most teams they've talked to about trading down are also looking to move up, though. Flahr also said they're not interested in signing 30+ older players for right now. Good stuff, hopefully.

Seven picks in the top 48. We'll see how they do; if they screw this up I think it's likely I'll go to my grave not seeing another Flyers championship.

Yep, watched it. After last year selecting Luchanko for need over Buium (I hope Luchanko becomes more than a 3rd line center), I'm nervous about the draft. If Martone drops to 6 I hope we just take him and not reach for O'brien/McQueen/Martin at center.

Don’t tell @mattwill that. He’ll say it is an argument in favor of NFL expansion.

That's true, but in your example of gatherings if people aren't watching the games, they aren't watching the commercials either.

True, but Neilson counts them anyway. All advertisers expect a high miss rate and a low (but acceptable) hit rate. Think about all the advertisements you have seen, and then think of the ones where you bought the product/service being advertised. If it is one out of ten, that is a lot.

But Nielson can only account for a device, not the number if people watching or not watching the device.

DVR not DVD although we have a DVD player hooked up to each TV, including one that also plays VHS. Haven’t used them in a while so I guess one of my summer tasks is verifying they still work.

Understood. Never had a DVR, and as noted earlier my DVD player went defunct a long time ago.

And it watered down the league. It made sense to add them from a logistical standpoint though to make it a 32 team league with 4 divisions of 4 teams per conference. But, adding any more would be a major departure from a system that actually makes a ton of sense logistically and would potentially lead to dramatic changes.

32 really does make sense, and adding 8 to get to the next plateau is a bridge too far. At 40 the changes wouldn’t have to be drastic, but scheduling would definitely have to be different.

That will be the interesting scenario, if it goes Schaefer, Misa, Hagens, Frondell, Desnoyers 1-5. The problem with taking Martone is, where/when do you get your center? I don't think you can wait until #22, so do they trade up AND reach? Briere actually traded out of the #12 pick to let MIN select Buium, so that might have been faulty talent evaluation -- although I do think Luchanko could develop into a 2C.

They did say they'll take BPA at #6 so we shall see.

Under 2 months until the first preseason game. Even though the season starts in September I kinda look at that first preseason game as the unofficial home stretch countdown until football season starts.

I do think Martone will go in the top 5. SJ or CHI seem like the logical teams to take him. As for Luchanko, I had high hopes, but he looks like a smaller Cates to me, which isn't bad, but not great. Better skater, but lacks great hands and not really a scoring threat.

6m is hella cheap. Rare L by Howie by not signing him.

I'd rather they figure out what they have in Ringo. Entering Year 3 already, they have to find out if he's a one contract player or a long term piece.

Interesting how much Eagles scaled back joint practices. There is just one day for all of Training Camp this year.

Not if they feel Ringo is ready to take that next step. Can't afford to have him on the bench for his 3 first years going in to the final year of his contract without knowing what he is. I'm happy they didn't sign Alexander. I want them to have faith in their young guys, especially the young guys loaded with talent.

I really don't feature watching day #1 of any future draft for nearly 10 hours, in hopes of Howie making a move to secure the 22nd pick who might not even make the starting lineup in his rookie season.

I like that signing for Baltimore. Even if you expect him to miss half the games.

Hell yeah, he's a baller. Great fit for both sides. Hope Howie can find another upper tier defender, probably at rusher. Safety is another highly questionable spot.

I just remembered the Bryce Huff conditions still haven't leaked. Kinda crazy no one has that yet.

Well said. You have captured my sentiments perfectly.

Yeah, but I'd like them to have the best guys and as good as Ringo can be he isn't Alexander for 6 million. That would have been a really smart move by Howie to have a top player when healthy and depth. Maybe he gets hurt and Ringo would have played anyway, but insurance for one year would have been nice.

Interesting read. I would love for either Danny Gray or Ainias Smith to step up as returners but Williams is likely in the lead.

HIGHLY questionable? Your hyperbole meter is running overtime. Either that or your pessimism gene is kicking in.

Id like Gray to actually show something as a WR. Id like Kielan Robinson to show something as a returner.

I'm unimpressed by Avery Williams and would love to see someone beat him for the spot.

Should he receive Ruggs treatment even though he didn’t kill anybody?

I expect at least one of the RS players goes to the PS.

Context matters.

Ruggs was going an extra 55MPH than Sanders. He was drunk. Was Sanders? And he was on an interstate with limited access to the road, but Ruggs was on a road with a 45 mph speed limit.

So, one was 41 mph over the limit, and the other was over 100 mph over the limit. He should get a significant penalty, but not the same penalty as Ruggs.
