That play jumped out at me on the rewatch as well.

I also thought Rodgers was infuriating. Seemed to be in the right place yet somehow not make a play

It seemed like he had zero ball skills. He never seemed able to locate the ball in the air.

With that albatross of a contract, i think the draft capital cost would be excessive. Unless you see a playoff contender with cap space. Dont think there is one.

Best to just see if he can remove his head from his rectum this year and rush the passer

If he had his head up his rectum that might explain why he was so bad at rushing the passer last year!

whats going on with this mini camp? We only got tweets on the 1st day. No PCs of coaches talking about what they saw or anything like that. Theres been 0 coverage?

What the hell ever happened to Will Rogers? He was a borderline 1st round QB after the 2022 season at Mississippi State. He stayed in school playing there for another year, and then transferred to Washington for his 5th year.

Not only did he not get drafted, but he didnt even get signed as a UDFA. It looks like the just got a tryout at Seattle's camp.

I ask this because I was watching this highlight tape of Giles Jackson and you notice the QB is throwing a really nice ball. Then I hear them saying Rogers, and Im like wait a minute, thats Will Rogers. How was he not even in the conversation to be drafted this year?

How do you know what coverages they were working on at the mini camp? No one is reporting anything. ph34r

Reporters were only allowed to watch for 20 minutes.

I'm pretty sure he died in a plane crash in the 1930s.

It was only 2 days and they only let reporters in for 20 minutes for the first day of rookie camp. No closing PCs either. I remember it was the same way last year. Much ado about little.

At the same time, there's not much to be gleaned from that either. So, while we get desperate for information at this time of year, there's really nothing of consequence to be gained from this camp. Shorts and t-shirt practices rarely reveal anything.

fwiw Barchard is a very fringe player but might have a contact or two left. He said Goedert would remain an Eagle this season the other day

I've been enocuraged that Campbell seems to be acting like a guy not far away from practicing. He doesn't seem to be favoring or protecting his shoulder. And he's stretching and out there. I do think he fell because he'll have to miss time and that's ok but it's encouraging.

That's true.

But, when you compare the games they played against the same teams... not much difference shows up there either.

Dallas game 1 w/ Goedert = 187 yards.
Dallas game 2 w/o Goedert = 179 yards.

Washington game 1 w/ Goedert = 228 yards.

Washington game 2 w/o Goedert = 211 yards.

Not a dramatic difference... I think Goedert's impact on the running game gets overrated at times.

I suspect that running yards is a poor barometer of Goedert’s impact. Last year the Eagles had Uzomah and Stoll available as an inline blocker. How many snaps in each game did one of those two get on running plays? How many of those yards are from long Barkley runs and on those long runs was a TE even a factor in the blocking and was that blocking on the move or in line? How healthy in those games was the OL is also a factor.

Real measurement of the impact of Goedert was his availability. That’s what his agent and Howie are talking about in this ongoing negotiation. Both have a valuation breaking point. But note that they are not at the point of negotiation where they have allowed the agent to seek valuation from other clubs.

Interesting. Was he halfheartedly kidding, or are they really doing it.

TE is the only spot were are genuinely thin

This time of year last year we would have said that LB was genuinely thin.

Im really pretty surprised they didnt go for Jusczyk in free agency then if thats the case. Hes excellent. They must really be confident in BVS.

Didn't you hear? Lurie's broke.

Not for us. We got a Hall of Famer

He is also expensive by comparison

I think the press only got access for a very short time with the player press conferences on Friday and per McMullen, stretches and a few of the individual position drills before getting escorted out. McMullen was honest and said they really don’t see enough during that time to come to any conclusions. This week and the rest of Phase 1 will see the Beats lurking around the players gathering information for the puff pieces we will see throughout the year. I suspect the majority of the news we will seem will involve the signing of rookies. Simmons just signed a fully guaranteed contract, which puts contract guarantee pressure on the rest of the first round picks as the degree of guarantee has been the only first round sticking point.

If you could guarantee me that Brown and Smith wouldn’t miss any time, I’d have no problem moving on from Goedert. The problem is we have no depth at pass catcher. Dotson probably isnt a passable 2 in our offense and our WR4 is below replacement level.

I always harken back to Goedert’s game against the Saints. When needed and used like a real weapon, he can be highly productive.

Putting all of my money on Goedert to the Patriots for AJ Brown.

The point people seem to be putting forward about Goedert is... he's both a very good blocker AND a receiving threat, whereas Calcaterra isn't. Calcaterra is only a receiving threat. What I am positing is that Goedert's contributions as a run blocker are exaggerated compared to what is tangibly measurable.

He's a luxury for this offense, not a necessity.

Yep in a real salary cap world where every D player isn't on their rookie deal you just need to allocate more to defense than they currently do going forward.

BVS has changed jersey numbers and is listed on the website as a "FB". I think they are actually going to have one moving forward. And I'm excited for it. They are going to try to take advantage of the pendulum defensively having swung so far to the other side.

They had a FB on the PS for most of the year last year as well. So, this isn't exactly new this year, just a new and seemingly stronger commitment.

This time last year I think we would have said the secondary was largely unproven, not thin. They had a lot of bodies there.

Slay, Mitchell, Cooper, Rodgers, Ringo and Ricks... with Maddox waiting in the wings. They had numbers, just a lot of question marks. There was a fair amount of optimism about the group.

Equally LB was well apportioned with names, but we didn't know how they'd work out. Baun, Dean, Smith, Trotter Jr., BVS and Oren Burks. Again, lots of bodies... not lots of hope for a breakout season. There were mixed opinions, where most people saw it as a significant weakness... but had a significant number of people in the room with NFL experience.

WR is the position on this team that I believe is extremely top heavy, but thin. We saw it play out last year when the Eagles were missing both Brown and Smith. After Brown and Smith, we know a lot about the guys behind them and what we know isn't good. We have a gross disappointment in the NFL in Dotson, we have two underwhelming second year WRs, a hail mary lottery ticket in Terrance Marshall and a whole lotta notta. There's not a lot of there there at WR.

I'm actually quite confident in the TE position, even if Goedert doesn't come back. Mostly because I don't see it as a make or break position for this offense. I think they can piece it together with what they have. On the other hand, WR is a make or break position, and its not deep after the top 2.
