Saw this. I still think he asks for lots of $$$. No home town discount.

I feel the opposite. As a UDFA who got a shot because of the Eagles, he falls into much the same category as Baun. I think he is also realistic about whether he is a diva or a lunchpail guy.

Bottom-line, he fits the culture and knows it.

If BVS is 242 lbs and lost no speed with the additional weight, he may be able to block on the line. Stoll, 2 inches taller, only weighed five pounds more.

Technique.

He got his ring. Now he will want his money. Business decision.

I think its part of why his teammates hype him up a bit. Players talk about contracts

WR is one of the positions that I expect a lot of training camp action/drama in. Dotson in year 2 with Hurts should be very different than the 2024 regular season. We saw some of that chemistry displayed in the playoffs.

Howie has brought in several FAs of interest, which is good given how underwhelming Wilson and Anias Smith were.

The UDFA from Tarleton State may prove to be the biggest surprise.

WR is going to be fun to watch.

Something at the forefront of my mind now is cost control on the roster with rookies. A rookie WR, even traded up for into the 2nd round (as an example), could be a priority next offseason vs trading like they did for Dotson. on a shorter deal Even Howie can't deal that hard to get everything aligned as they have done previously without having rookies bolster the bigger players.

Met Coach Vermeil this AM. So I got that going for me, which is nice.

The last draft was supposing a strong TE class. Yet the FO did nothing. They did sign some FAs and kept some PS guys around to compete for roster spots. This bunch does not look like a sure-bet to yield viable players on the successive plan. Goedert is likely to move on after this season, or drop off in production is he stays around. That will leave a void in the offence.

I don't know if Goedert is gone after this season. I think it's more likely than not but it's not certain. TE's are often productive into their 30s. I don't think they will think he's past his prime. The problem is cost. My guess is they think Calcaterra plus a rookie is good enough vs. not being able to potentiall re-sign Carter, Q or Cooper.

Jack Stoll had above average arm length and wingspan as a TE.

Wingspan

81½"*

84

Arm Length

33⅛"*

57

Ben VanSumeren:

  • Arm Length: 31"

I think that's the biggest factor in playing him on the line. He needs the space to get up to speed to be an effective blocker. VanSumeren's arm length is below average for the position. I think that makes it much harder for him to be effective. I would question plays where we used him in that role and expected him to block a DE or seal the edge.

Did you both cry when you shook his hand or was it just you?

Very likely, he got peanuts in his first contract, being a UDFA.

Nah, real nice dude. Honestly if you walked past him you would just think he was some random old guy. T-shirt tucked in blue jeans, sketchers on his feet and walking with a cane.

The NFCCG was still competitive with 16 minutes left. Then the other guys turned the ball over on three straight possessions. Not as dominating as the Super Bowl.

Excellent posts. Forgot about both of their arm lengths. That makes Stoll’s arm length greater than most of the Eagles Gs. I wonder if that is why Goedert is a good blocker. His arm length, 34”, and hand size, 10”, are OT size. Calcaterra has arms long enough to be Stoll. Bad news is all the TEs that Howie brought in have shorter arms.

If he wasn't a Dick, I'd have to assume you met a different Coach Vermiel. 🤔

Most Saturdays he and a bunch of his coaching buddies have breakfast at Urban Kitchen in Wilmington, DE at Prices Corners.

This includes rushes on third and fourth down. He is getting EPA credit for all of the tush pushes. It also includes the defensive offsides.

Interesting.

We share the same barber so it was a coincidence. I was in the chair when he shuffled in.

Yeah let's not give him credit for a play he is great at.

So weird how defensive some Eagles fans get when it comes to praising Hurts and giving him his respect. 4 years as a starter, 4 playoff appearances, 2 Super Bowl appearances, 2 great Super Bowl performances, 1 Super Bowl win and MVP.

I have a ton of respect for Hurts. I am very happy that he is our QB. He has earned all of the accolades he is receiving.

But let's be honest, he is playing a different version of the position than the folks you compare him to. He behind the best OL in the game and has a multitude of weapons around him. He doesn't have to carry this team like other QBs need to do. I heard a stat on a podcast recently. The only game after the bye that Hurts threw a pass while trailing in the fourth quarter was the Panthers game. There are several QBs that would have as much, if not more, success on this team as currently constructed.

Uh oh. You said the dreaded statement. Prepare for the backlash and to get called a hater lol
