Steen also was banged up but is fine

Love Nolan Smith, but he's gotta stay healthy. Rookie year banged up. Made it through all of last year, but ended on a torn tricep. Now he's been banged up all of camp. If he's going to be the guy we are depending on off the edge, he's gotta be on the field.

You could even go as far as doing this with their new long snapper too. Even if Johnstone does well snapping in the preseason, no one is going to claim him when rosters are cut down. They did it before with an established LS. I'm not counting on Hughlett being on this roster. They can easily go heavy at LB/S/CB if needed and get creative with the PS spots.

In addition Hughlett is a vested veteran so he doesn’t have to go through waivers, and can go directly to the Practice Squad. That applies to Dillon too.

I remember one of them mentioning him shadowing. Is he doing that in practice?

Yea he's been playing both sides all camp. Fangio alluded to it being used in game situationally more than a week to week thing but wanted him to be prepared for it if they choose to do it in game.

That would be great if he succeeds at it and can do it permanently

Gross that the second preseason game is Saturday 1pm. I like preseason games weekday nights. I don't wanna spend my Saturday afternoon watching preseason.

Fangio likes his safeties to roam though and cover a lot of space, like deep center field types, and Ringo does not have great lateral quickness. His strength is straight line speed.

I see what you are saying. I still would like to just give him some reps for Vic to see. He doesn't have perfect traits for outside CB either but some of his traits I mentioned could be a fit at safety. I don't see how it could hurt. Regardless I hope we don't get burned with the #2 CB spot at the end of the day. I could see Howie making a move at an obvious weak position in late August if necessary. He previously traded for Dotson on August 22nd and CJGJ on August 30th so somewhere in that timeframe a move in general could be made. Nolan going into the locker room again today is concerning for our rush group.

Given the technical/schematic perfection Fangio demands from his players I'm wildly impressed by the guys cross training sides/positions.

It's one of like 3 spiders that's pretty much universally recognized though. It's like calling someone The Cobra and showing a garden snake. Kinda dumb.

That's a bad analogy. Black widow spiders are more dangerous to humans than tarantulas. So, it would be much more the converse of your analogy, if you want to play the pedant game.

Vic is a tough old bird. The question today about Kevin and he gave nothing. Meanwhile just yesterday Kevin had good things to say about communication and Vic and such.

Yet Vic's presser last week he made some comments which hinted towards communication not being exactly what he liked when discussing getting the base defense on the field more. McMullen then spoke about it in his podcast after that presser. Maybe it's nothing but it seems a little odd.

I'm not talking about danger. I'm talking about recognizability. Tarantulas are the most recognizable spider. So to call someone that as a nickname then show a video of another spider is silly. Like calling him The Cobra then showing any other snake. Or The Clydesdale and showing any other horse. Or The Hammerhead Shark and showing any other shark. If you want other examples.

I don't really care. It's just kinda dumb by the Phillies imo. Show a tarantula if that's what you're going for.

Brown Recluse spiders often are more dangerous than black widows.
