You're coming at me with McKee highlights as if I haven't been a huge fan of him since he lit up preseason as a rookie. I was bashing the Eagles for Mariota being the #2 for his contract even though rookie McKee was obviously better. I criticized the Eagles immediately for wasting drat capital on Pickett when McKee was already obviously better. Even after that Redskins game that Hurts went out in I was screaming for McKee to come in. We would have won, yet fans here continued to defend Pickett and stand in place of him instead of McKee. They got louder as that joke Cowboys game played out and Pickett played well beyond his mistakes like the glue had throwing fumble. But McKee came in and threw like 3 TDs in 5 passes and then the next week started and tore apart the Giants and then suddenly others started to see he was better than Pickett. Him lighting it up this preseason is just expected by me. I'm a huge Pickett fan. We need to keep him this year. If Hurts stays healthy and McKee doesn't get much of a chance besides week 18 with backups then they need to absolutely try to re-sign him to a multiyear extension even with one year left on his contract to see if he would do it. Otherwise Hurts misses some games this year and McKee gets to play he will show he can be at the worst a top 15 QB but likely top 10 in the league and the Eagles will get some sort of package including at least a 1st next offseason.

This franchise has a history of flipping QBs, especially including backups for some good value. Foles they should have after the Super Bowl. Cleveland was offering a high 2nd round draft pick. I think the Eagles were overly cautious with Wentz coming back from his injury and purposely held him out to start the season to see if Foles would run with the job. That just messed with his psyche which we found out was on thin ice. Something we should have found out when he had lives on his neck during Super Bowl week. Didn't see those again until Jalen came around and him being drafted in the 2nd round killed him but then Jalen dressing and getting snaps in week 2 against the Rams fully sent Wentz on his down spiral. Although it can be drafted Wentz's interception week 1 at the end of the half against the Redskins started his spiral. Already feeling the pressure of a non-dressed Hurts. At his first mistake Wentz unraveled and he was never the same the rest of his career. People forget that but he was great, classic Wentz that whole first half until a bad interception and then it was just downhill from there the rest of the season, and his career. Wild, but if we do get the godfather offer and trade McKee for a 1st+ package before next offseason then Wentz would be the perfect free agent market QB to go after for backup.

No. I’m not coming at you that way at all. I was inviting you to discuss back and forth what those highlights tell us about Patullo’s play calling and play design.

Since my question was too obscure, let me share with you why I looked at those highlights, and what I saw.

My thinking was that those plays were all passes, and they would give me a good opportunity to see what kind of pass protection Will Shipley provided for McKee, since the biggest knock on Shipley has been his reliability as a pass protector.

Seeing how McKee, Cooper, Dotson, Wilson and Smith did was incidental … but I did expect it to be fun.

So what did I find out? In all those McKee pass completion plays, Shipley didn’t stay in the backfield to block even once. Every play on the snap of the ball he was instantly in motion going out in a pass pattern, mostly to the flat, but occasionally over the middle. So I never once got to see Shipley block a defender.

What does that tell us about Kevin Patullo as a play caller and a play designer?

There's definitely a subsection of Packets fans who would want McKee over Love. I'm not saying they're right, but IMO sports journalists seem to be much higher on Love than the "average" NFL fan.

I think Tanner McKee with Josh Jacobs in the backfield, 2 talented TE and the crop of WR the Packers have would be very successful. The Packers have no shortage of playmakers.

I really want a return specialist that looks the part back there, and not one named Cooper Dejean.

Isn't that why we signed Avery Williams?

We know he will be a better runner than Gainwell but we do want to see Shipley pick up the blitzers and also pick up key first downs on swing passes by making a defender miss. Gainwell was always very trusty with those two items and was at least a mediocre runner.

No we do not want to see that. He needs a lot of work there. I don't doubt he will work hard on this but right now it would be an issue. Dillon looked good, I'm happy it's not just Saquan, Shipley and a bunch of UDFA's.

One nice thing about a QB who doesn't hold the ball is that the RB can go out on routes instead of having to act as an extra OL. He will become a release valve for pressure. Better way to utilize Shipley's excellent receiving skills. Real QBs maximize the talent of their weapons.

I'm not saying Dillon won't have a role. Hopefully, both of them will get time and do well.

Dillon looks better than Shipley and I'd have him as the #2. Shipley hasn't really shown anything, I'm not sure why everyone is so high on him. He gets caught from behind and doesn't break tackles. He's not that shifty. He hits the hole quickly then usually runs until first contact then goes down. Dime a dozen.

Love Vic toying with the Beats. Most interesting response was in regards to tackling in practice. Says in 40 years he has been in one camp with live tackling to the ground. Situational at the goal line but never in the open field. He then talked about how they can learn tackling without the live take to the ground. Here’s the tweet of the presser.

I thought they both looked good. Other Shipley arguments aside it's really low on my list of eval for my #2/#3 RB if they get caught from behind on 30-yard runs.

Vic Fangio said the touchdown Kelee Ringo gave up is a good learning experience. Fangio called Cover 0 for the evaluation process. Said he’s not upset Ringo gave up a catch; upset he didn’t tackle Ja’Marr Chase.

It seems like Bennett or someone not on the team will be starting if not week 1 then by week 4

He doesn’t have a lot of make you miss, but he’s plenty fast. The only reason Shipley was caught from behind against Washington is because he decided to cover the ball with two hands at the end of his run and it slowed him down.

It’s hard to take much away from Dillon’s limited work, but I was impressed by his catch over the middle. He looked smooth.

Baun is practicing.

McLane: WR Elijah Cooks (shoulder) and G Kenyon Green (injury unknown), who left Thursday’s game early, aren’t suited up for today’s #Eagles practice.

But they’re out here watching — a positive sign their injuries aren’t serious.

Brandon Brooks and Fletcher Cox attending practice. Suh here too.
