I'd love to know how Sheil is measuring this "BIG" dropoff in run blocking from TEs when he missed time. The aggregate stats were better without him than with him. It begs the question just how 'BIG' that dropoff really was in the grand scheme of the offense's effectiveness.

Knowing Sheil, it's probably EPA per rush play or some similar analytical stat

But comp picks only happen if they don’t get canceled out. Dallas would have to refrain from signing FAs in order to accomplish that.

Maybe I should have been more clear. They only have two FA's next year. It's very likely they won't be active in FA and therefore not cancel out the comp for Pickens.

The two year difference with Allen over Hurts and BurrowSSSSS was making this a bit difficult for me do digest. So I broke averaged it by year (and by game since BurrowSSSSS has missed almost half a season in 2024) and color coded it because I'm a huge f'n nerd:

Average by year:

Hey. I was only making the stats easier to consume, I didn't come up with them.

For the most part I understood what you were saying. However, free agency isn't the only way a team loses players. Injuries (Dean) Retirements (BG) Cuts (Bradberry and Slay) and players failing to perform up to expectation (Wilson and Smith at WR) all can open the rod for FA signings.

I doubt it. Suspect the starting Ss are Reed and Brown. S is not usually a position for a rookie to step into.

I don't think Brown has shown enough, and Fangio must have had major input in selecting Mukuba. So I think he starts day 1, just my guess but we'll see.

A little surprised it hasn't been done already. I don't think it would be overly complicated.

Howie recently has gotten all extensions done around the same time before the draft, so it will be interesting to see if Reed is on the agenda.

I'm also still not convinced Huff will be here, but that's one to probably monitor after June at this point.

It depends what Reed wants. I wouldn't offer him more than average safety money now.

Fair enough.

But given their recent track record and the fact they are looking at 9 picks next year, I'm willing to bet they would get the theoretical comp pick.

After that last performance? None of the QBs currently playing are likely top 3 all time and I am not sure that any are top ten all time.

Mahomes likely enters top 10 passing TDs all time in ~5 years

~6 or 7 years for top 10 passing yards

Yeah, Mahomes' 3 Super Bowls and 3 SB MVPs have him in the top 10 all-time discussion already.

Same. It's just hard to imagine he or his agent is asking for a hefty price tag. He doesn't really have the accolades and accomplishments to be unreasonable.

He gets a lot of hate but it's silly to see people saying Hurts is better than Mahomes

He watches them play during film review.

He mentioned it a bunch on his podcast. He said Goedert isn’t as good as he was as a blocker but well ahead of the rest of the roster.

I think this is the right take.

Losing Stoll and not replacing him hurts.

Stoll played in 7 games for us last year. None after early November. It didn't hurt that much

I agree 100% with your logic, but as we saw with Ojulari and Rodgers, all it takes is one.

I believe that is a good bet.

Cowboys let Jourdan Lewis (#2) walk and traded for George Pickens (#14)

I suspect Bryant and Granson were "insurance” against not working a deal with Goedert and losing out on Stoll to Moore in free agency. He signed Latu to an early futures contract. Way overdrafted by the 49ers (3rd), slow and has drop issues. Nick Muse, even slower, spent time as third TE for the viqueens (7th rounder) has more experience than Latu but on his last shot in the NFL. E. J. Jenkins, converted TE, even slower and with some drops didn’t show a lot as third TE for the Birds, then Howie signed Bryant and Granson. Bryant, a bit faster, was a fourth round pick for the Browns, grades well as a pass blocker but not so well as a run blocker. Career backup. Granson, fourth rounder by the Colts grades out better as a blocker than the others. Good speed and good hands but size wise, he’s shorter than BVS height and just a little heavier. Having played for the Colts for four years, suggests Nick has some info on him. Note, both Bryant and Granson did move around in college and played some in the backfield. I really think whoever wins the third TE/FB slot will need to show good blocking.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if we go with only 2 TEs on the 53 man roster. With the 2 IR designated to return spots the 53 is effectively 55, as long as there are injuries. I can see the two TEs being Goedert and either Bryant or Granson (with the other of those two going to the Practice Squad), and Calcaterra moving over to WR displacing Johnny Wilson. He has shown the ability to actually catch the balls thrown his way and Wilson has not done so so far. In additiopn Calcaterra has developed some chemistry/rapport with Hurts.

Why? He doesn't throw as much but when he does he is successful.

Cam Rising is retiring from college football. rather than playing for Utah this year. He's about to turn 26 next week. Jalen Hurts is 26 (granted he's 27 in August). Wild how long some of these guys have stayed in college. I always liked watching Rising play.
