And then of course there is Herbert, a man who craps his pants in any important game, but looks great in week 6 against Las Vegas...

Losing Slater really hurts them

What’s up, guys? I’ve been quiet on here lately. The truth is, I’ve been going through a rough stretch with my mental health. I wasn’t sure whether to say anything, but with June being Men’s Mental He

There's just as much possibility that the choices are between option 1 and 2 as it is between 2 and 3.

The fact that It's not an achilles or ACL is already good news.

There's still a chance for this season, and a reasonable one at that.

Yup

Too short sighted

If he needs a repair just get it done

So we scheduled an extra long practice as that's the only one fans were allowed to attend and he got hurt late into the practice.

I figured it would be middle tier outcome. If it was ACL we would have found out last night. Someone would've reported "concern for ACL tear" or Dickerson would have been emotional coming off the field. He's had them he knows what they feel like. If it was nothing, we would have found out last night too. Also him grabbing the front of the knee and not the back was a tell. ACL usually guys grab the back of it. I was hoping for MCL or PCL but meniscus is middle tier outcome. Landon is tough MFer, I'm sure whatever route will be the low end of time missed.

The JJ McCarthy timeline is bad data for this situation.

He was a rookie QB behind an established starter. There was no urgency to see if he could come back in November or December.

It was the logical move to redshirt him no matter how long his recovery took (unless it was extremely minimal)

My guess is they are going to scope the knee and see exactly what is going on, and then they will determine what exactly to do.

Landon I assume is going to tell them to clean up what they can and he will rest and then try to play on it at some point.

I’m thinking he’s trying to get out of a trim and just rehab it to get back week 1; that’s the delay

Those are both basically the same recovery timeline though. What benefit would it be to not get a trim?

If I were a betting man I’d say he gets the trim to try and get through the season? Then gets a full repair or whatever is needed in the off season?

If it is badly torn, then they won't do the trim. They'll do the full repair. They really don't know 100% until they go in there.

they could use the trimmings for an attadictomy at the same time...

I don't think that's how it works. If he gets it trimmed, there's nothing left to fix.

I believe the way it works is that there is a tear and repairing it takes a long time to heal, due to the lack of blood vessels going to the meniscus. So, a trim of the ripped portion can lead to a much faster recovery, but that also means removing the part that would need a repair and he'd finish his life with less meniscus on that knee. But, I'm not a doctor, nor did I ever play one on TV. But, I did study for my anatomy test decades ago.

Thats not possible. If they cut the piece out, then there is nothing to go back in and repair. Its one or the other.

So he won't be back until Week 4ish?

So anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months? I get why it took so long to tell us now…

Cut it out, keep on ice in an igloo cooler then put it back and repair it

The MRI removes the need for exploratory surgery. Theyll know what theyre doing before they go in. Landon needs to decide if he wants a quick snip to get back to playing week 1 or 2, or get a repair and basically miss the season.

I would think the 3 options are:

  1. No surgery: hope it improves and he is back in a matter of a few weeks

  2. Meniscus trimming: remove the damaged part, back in 6 weeks

  3. Full repair: out 3-6 months

Feels like they are trying to decide between 2&3...what kind of surgery.

You forgot the most important option....DO NOT use Embiid's doctor!

I also found the wording from Schefter as a bit odd. "Thought to have a meniscus injury”. Wouldn’t they know more definitively or is he just being vague on purpose because no one really knows still how severe it is?

Yeah, let's pass on Dr. Nick Riviera.

Do what's needed to get healthy, the team will survive with next man up until he returns. Better to have him recovered and ready for the bulk of the season than rush back too soon.

Good for them. It's preseason.

Thats weird. They are usually pretty clear on MRI. Maybe he actually did not have the MRI yet? Schefters tweet actually does not say that he had it yet.
