Fangio wants to look at everyone with a shot of making the team at this point in pre-season.

See what they can and can't do, what can be coached up over the next few weeks and what will need a full offseason (adding strength).

The third exhibition game is where decisions are made, the guys with locks don't dress, the guys with no chance don't play until the 4Q.

After that, roster cut down and settling on a rotation.

People try to read too much into day to day lineups, or even who plays in the first couple exhibition games.

And with expanded PS squads, decisions are more strategic, save roster spots for high upside prospects who aren't NHL ready, and bring in veterans off the waiver wire to stash on the PS as injury insurance (especially first half of the season, after the bye week, rookies will be closer to NFL ready).

As far as Toth, he's PS bound, he's the reliable vet you never want to start.

Won't be surprised if they're grooming him to be an assistant coach down the road.

If you want to be optimistic, you could take Toth at LG as a sign that they are confident Landon will be back for week 1. If they expected Dickerson to miss that game (or more), I'd think you would see Steen at LG and Pryor at RG. If they are keeping Steen at RG, hopefully it means they are optimistic on Landon.

Awful workout stats, basically a big body to eat 4th Q snaps then get cut in first wave, probably not even worth a PS spot unless he discovered conditioning.

Feels like they needed a camp body since Hall is out and Booker was traded.

I thought we should have stayed with Wentz, and I was wrong. Clowns like Orlovsky refuse to alter their opinions despite new information. They said Hurts couldn't win in 2020/2021, and they will never change that view.

To be fair though, when all the hysteria over Hurts being unable to read a defense or can't beat the blitz was at a fever pitch, Orlovsky did breakdowns of several plays pointing the finger elsewhere (Johnson and Sirianni). He has his lucid moments at times.

I don't know but Baun played a lot of first team snaps on defense in camp and mini-camps last year.

I still don't think they would move Steen for just one game. I'd imagine they would keep him at his position and just gut out one game with Pryor. Kinnard moving to 2nd LG is a positive sign. It tells me they are just using him to eat reps instead of preparing a contingency plan like Pryor at LG.

I'm still not sure if Dickerson will play Week 1. He presumably is getting the surgery today or tomorrow and a 3 week turnaround might be hard to do. He's not the player that needs to practice but he likely won't be up to the game so I can see them not rushing him back. That said, everything points to they are fully confident he'll be back sooner than later.

Young is still hurt too. They just needed a guy.

When they look at you, and you look good, they throw more at you to see what you can handle.

Look at Cooper, after that big performance, they had him lining up with the 1s in practice.

If he keeps playing well, he'll get more PT as they start seeing him as a potential 3/4 and not just a PS back of the roster guy.

The problem on defense so far is that players haven't stepped up or been nicked up.

So Fangio will keep rotating guys in and out until someone steps up.

Brown, Mukuba, McCollum, Sam at S, Ringo, Jackson, Bennett, Ricks at CB. No one has jumped ahead of the pack yet

Does Goodell resign if Gruden wins?

  • A Nevada judge ruled that former Raiders coach Jon Gruden’songoing lawsuit against the NFL can move forward in public. It’s a big win for Gruden. (This and other links free to read. Just log in.)

It isn't a win on any merit argument. It's just a win on the enforceability of an arbitration clause. It was probably more of a delay tactic than a substantive defense to the claim.

Yes. I have seen tweets about Q covering with Tanner throwing. I have seen precious little mention about Reed’s snaps. The Beats are very focused on specific players, especially the tier 3 Beats, who are the most prolific with the tweets. The practice reports can offer a bit more insight but those are limited too. So, since none of the Beats has contradicted what Vic said, i will defer to Vic.

It’s early practice and pretty soon it will be stretching/position drills once a week for the Beats. It is about reps at this point. Frankly, we should be encouraged that we have three CBs besides Q practicing with the ones. (Plus some McWilliams in nickel and dime.) We should be encouraged that Mukuba, Brown, McCollum and Sam have all had reps with the ones. That Cooks (pre injury), Cooper, Marshall, Wilson and Ainias Smith have all seen throws from Hurts. The Beats don’t see the walkthroughs and pretty soon won’t see more than a half hour once a week of stretching/position drills. Unless, which would seem out of character with the secrecy now in place, Nick names starters, we won’t know until they lineup in a game.

I don't think Fangio is entirely lying. But so far this camp, Adoree has gotten more first team reps than Ringo and I think if Ringo was ahead or performing better, Ringo would be getting more first team reps than Adoree. Or at the very least, an even split. The fact that as we've gotten into the next week of camp and Adoree is with the first team is starting to be a bit more telling.

Do we have a listing of beats broken down by tier?

I kind of do for who I like and what I suspect is their sources/football knowledge. But Kubeka (sp) and the BGN/WIP (and former members like Kempski are all tier 3 for me.

Or could be a reflection on Evans. Really think the Eagles may PS a NT this year.

As we both know, discovery in arbitration is private. Unless under seal (which seems unlikely in this case), discovery in court is not. Also, Nevada is a judicial hellhole for defendants so the courts favor the plaintiff. I really believe that the defeat on the arbitration clause is the last thing Goodell et al want. I would bet they try to settle, but Gruden strikes me as a pound of flesh type guy.

Actually I am pretty sure that Ringo is ahead on snaps although it is close but behind on being up first. Frankly, I just want the best of Ringo, Jackson and Bennett to win the spot. I would agree none has at this point.

The absolute peak fervor and silliness in here was when people said Hurts crouched down so low in shotgun formation that he couldn’t see the defense presnap.

Interesting nugget, they had Mac McWilliams as outside CB with the first team today

I think Jackson is the starter to start the season. Unless Ringo does something worthy

Fangio would absolutely do this if he thought it was best

Regarding Toth. I don’t think he’s any good, but if Jeff Stoutland thinks he’s the best option, who am I to argue?

There are 2 teams that just appear to be COMICALLY overrated going into the season. One is the Commanders, and I've posted on them before -- I see them finishing with at best 9 wins, and most likely a losing record. I won't beat a dead horse there.

Can someone explain to me all the love for the Broncos? Is it because people expect some massive jump from Bo Nix? The roster is...fine I guess. Basically a bunch of B level players other than Surtain. They had one good win last year against a playoff team -- they beat the Bucs on the road in week 3. The other 9 wins were: at the Jets, 2 against the Raiders, at New Orleans, Carolina, Atlanta, Cleveland, Indy and the Chiefs' backups in week 18. They got pasted by Buffalo and Baltimore. They get lucky with the AFC South and NFC East this year, but so does KC. Maybe they ride a weak schedule to 9-10 wins again, but feels like everyone is picking them to win the division, and I just don't see it at all.

And if it's because people think Payton is some great coach...I mean, he's basically Temu Mike McCarthy. In 16 years with a 1st ballot HOF QB, he went to and won a single Super Bowl. Lost in the NFCCG 2 times. In 13 years with Favre/Rodgers, McCarthy got to and won the Super Bowl once and lost 3 NFCCGs.

Toth is Lg with the ones in practice today. How did he look in the Bengals game?

This is going to upset a few people in here, but Toth played very well. Very well. An interesting plus: he, not Kendall, was making the line calls and making them from LG. He was secure in pass pro, blocked on the second level, recognized stunts. IOW, he played like a veteran.

Hinton started out very badly. He was turning rather than sliding in pass pro, which is a no-no. He has a funny action with his left foot when he sets; I think that's something Stout has him do consciously in his jump sets. He needs more strength, which surprised me a little, Michigan's strength program being legendary. As the game wore on he rallied a bit and made some nice blocks. I can see why Stout likes him.

Lamm started at LT and was fine.

Broncos defense is no joke. I believe they had a top 4 defense last year and they only added to it. I think they need another WR on offense. I'd be calling Washington about McLaurin if I was them. Nix played pretty well last season. I like them to win the division also
