I was borderline shocked they didn't bring back Rodgers. A competition between him and Ringo made perfect sense.

Meh. Rodgers really isn't starting material, and has a $4M AVV this season.

I'd say Bennett's track record is pretty equivalent, and McWilliams has shown well, has the same skill set and size limitations but might be better at NCB.

Folks weirdly assume Rodgers is a nickel because he's short. The dude weighs 170 and has hardly ever played nickel.

So then I get it.

In Fangio We Trust.

If he wanted Rodgers, he'd still be here

Howie will fix CB2 when necessary. I’m not too worried about it. I don’t have a ton of faith in Brown at safety either. I think we enter November with some new faces.

Tonight my Uber driver told me his son is best friends with Mukuba and played at HS and UT with him and said he is hungry as hell. Told his son he guarantees he will be starting at some point this year.

Agree. Brown out there like a heat seeking missile with no homing device. Simmons here sooner or later if they can't figure it out.

I worked until summer came, then we got a new pastor for our church (so my wife and I were part of the retirement party planning group) and I've been helping the new pastor by going on visitations. (He's bivocational for the next year plus.) It is an interesting thing to minister to the shut ins.

We also lost a family friend and an aunt to cancer this past year. Cancer truly sucks.

Sounds like a good Pastor. How are his sermons?

So sorry to hear about your losses. Cancer truly does suck.

I’m more worried about the defense getting consistent pressure on the Qb and stopping the run. Even with the potential deficiencies at Cb#2 and Safety, we still have a very good all around back 7 group. Can’t remember when we actually viewed LB as a strength for this defense. There will always be "holes” in a defense.

The success of this defense will again come down to the Dline performing well against the run and pressuring the Qb.

Just didn't have the cap room, Baun was a better bet than Slay, CJ was probably clubhouse/coaching issues as much as play (he's opportunistic but undisciplined, not the way to Fangio's heart).

Not sure Rodgers will be better than McWilliams by the bye week, both undersized CBs with good speed, but McWilliams is young and cheap.

It's hard to keep an elite defense together under the cap, Williams and Kearse couldn't be paid, but Hunt and Ojomo seem to be able to pick up the slack. It's more a depth issue, promoting them means Ucho and Hall become next man up, but adding Campbell gives you a lot of options down the stretch (Campbell and Baun can both rush A gaps or off the edge if need be).

I'm not sure Bennett isn't as good as the available and affordable FAs (if they couldn't pay Slay, Howie certainly didn't have $20+M to throw at a top DB), like most of the players who it FA, he's got a decent track record but has limitations.

One thing to remember before you panic, Fangio runs a very sophisticated defense which you don't see in preseason. In practice and preseason, a lot is about testing player limitations so he knows what they can and can't handle in games.

Once the real games start, Fangio will find ways to protect and disguise, so a limited CB2 won't look as vulnerable as he does in exhibition games.

One reason I want DeSean to stay inside is he can impact the game a lot more there, whereas if you put him at outside CB, OCs will attack the center of the defense and use outside WRs as decoys to pull Mitchell and DeSean out of the play and make it a 9 on 9 game.

Exactly right. Bennett is a good cb and Vic is leaving them out on an island now to see how they do. We could use a vet like Douglass though

I'm sure the NFL could find a way to say Drake Maye took part in sports gambling.

McWilliams is an inch taller and about 15 pounds heavier than Rodgers. About an inch and a half taller than Maddox. Jackson is about the same but about 10 pounds heavier, Barnett is about 20 pounds heavier. Brad Johnson (who I suspect replaces Nickerson on the PS) is about Rodgers sized. Will be surprised, if Rodgers starts, if he holds up the whole season.

All this handwringing from practices with the DBs is a bit nuts. The CBs are 1 on 1 (Man) and even in the 7 on 7s and 11 on 11s they aren’t showing zone much and vanilla zone at that. There is some speculation that Q may get some MEG and the Eagles do incorporate some MOD with their outside corners and some Match with Coop, it is mostly Quarters and Cover 6 in games.

Actually sounds like and in the Bengals game looked like Brown was being disciplined.

Good point a out practices. I mean, Ringo and Jackson were so good against the Bengals in the pre-season game.

His sermons are better than mine! lol

He was our assistant pastor for a number of years before moving up to the senior position.

I'm not so sure about that anymore. I was listening to Sheil and McManus last night and they were talking about how Fangio didn't seem too enthused about the Booker Bennett trade. When he was asked if the trade was made because they have a logjam at DT, everyone expected him to be like "Yeah, we had an abundance at the position there" but he was basically like "No, he was going to be our 4th DT."

Between that and him basically being like "No, I didn't sign off on Adoree, Howie gets the guys he wants" I wonder how much Howie even consults Fangio. Not saying he doesn't, I'm sure he does sometimes, but I think it's probably far less frequently than I originally thought.

They should put "Keep Murdering” in the other end zone, then study violent crime statistics 90 days later to analyze whether the message is having any effect.

It would be a nice tribute to Braman if the Eagles put "Kill, Maim. Destroy" in their endzones

I think the ACs would like a 60+ man roster.

From what I saw, not a lot of difference between Hall and Booker. Robinson was probably a little behind them right now but that's normal with a rookie in TC.

So Fangio probably would prefer to carry 6 DTs (with Booker) but Howie is looking at cutdown day, thinking he can stash Sykes and Evans and pick up a veteran DT for the PS, but will find it hard to carry 6 DTs and keep all his promising young LBs.

My suspicion is Howie does talk to him, but Howie makes the tough calls, Fangio probably wanted both to keep Booker but have more depth at CB.

Ringo, Jackson and Bennett all have limitations, but realistically, you either draft a CB in the top 50 or pay $10+M in FA if you want a solid starter.

I'm sure Fangio lobbied to pay Baun, but that meant cutting corners somewhere else.

"You can't always get what you want."

The way I look at it is the defense has exceptional starters on all three levels. Look around at other teams and they do not have the kind of depth the Eagles have on defense. There will be times where the secondary shuts down receivers and the d-line pressures the QB. There will be times where Jalen Carter is so disruptive he stops a play. There will be times where the LB swarm to the ball and shut down carries and YAC opportunities to short gains.

This is where I'm at until we see results. Fangio noted that Howie signed Jackson without his input, but otherwise it's apparent that Fangio has brought influence in the roster, especially linebacker. Fangio saw the roster last year and would have given input on who he'd want to keep. He's not shy about voicing his opinion.

Given the contract stuff and players leaving, I expected they would accept weaknesses at the other safety and corner this year, try to compensate elsewhere, and then those positions get targeted next offseason.

Why can't football appeal to people who like male cheerleaders and people who like rough rugged men in tight pants running into each other on a rectangular field?

They can have the latter. They can do a Taylor Swift concert for the first.

NFL should go gender neutral cheerleaders
